Congrats to Holden & Nagata!!

May 19, 2022 - Toronto - Don Mills and Eglinton - Amexon

Cathy Kerr Reports:

Good news at DON MILLS/AMEXON: We have a hatch!! Congrats to Holden and Nagata! Thanks to my son for coming up with me to check for a hatch…egg shell still there so very newly hatched!  I am hoping that I am right in seeing a small pip in the other egg. Won’t be going up again to check until banding…parents quite upset(rightly so) with our presence- walking to the car with our hard hats brought both out and circled over us, ushering us to our car lol. Good parents. As the banding is the only other time we’ll see them until they are ready to fledge(they are high and hidden), hope you enjoy the pics I quickly took of this little cutie

Our Chicks are doing fine and growing nicely.

May 18, 2022 - Greater Toronto - Private Residential 1

Marion Nash Reports:

Here are a couple of pictures taken by my fellow photographer Maggie Pawlak.
Aria feeding her young ones while Indie watches, then takes the food and flies
off with it to feed herself.

The last picture was taken on Tuesday evening and shows just how much they
have grown already, and….we can even see some black feathers poking thru.

Banding Day at Mississauga MEC May 17th 2022

May 18, 2022 - Mississauga - Executive Centre

Marion Nash Reports:

Thanks to Colliers International property management for again hosting the banding and for Sky Reach Window Washing for getting Mark Nash from CPF up to the nest to extract the chicks.

2 of the 4 eggs hatched and 2 boys banded.

Extracting the chicks went very well but just as she has done in the past Erin did not leave the nest and stood her ground. She was calm the entire time but as Mark Nash who went up on the swing stage to collect the chicks said if looks could kill. Erin struck out with her talons each time he grabbed a chick and on the last strike her talons poked through the glove and gave him something to remember her by.

The first chick banded weighed in at 590 grams at 21 days old band number C over 25 with blue tape he was named Mohamed the second another male weighed 535 grams band number C over 27 with Blue tape and named Ishaq.

I would also like to thank Security and maintenance staff who the chicks were named after and who have over the years have kept a close eye on the fledglings and helped us locate missing fledglings, conduct rescues and get us up to the roof to release then for a second chance. Without their help survival rates would be much lower.

Banding Day May 17th 2022 Canada Square

May 18, 2022 - Toronto - Canada Square Building - Yonge and Eglinton

Marion Nash Reports:

Steven McGough from Solar Group window washing said of Haven boy this girl gets more aggressive every year and yes true to form Haven gave him a through trouncing and peregrine mom scolding while extracting the chicks. If not for the bravery of these guys we could not have banded the chicks at this site, it’s not easy to find someone willing to take her wrath.
As always I would like to thank Security and Igor from Oxford building Management for helping make this banding happen and for being such great hosts.
There were 4 chicks 2 boys and 1 girl and one too young to tell for sure. The first 3 chicks were all banded but the last was a very late hatch and was at least a week younger than the others and too small for proper sizing of the band so we decided not to band him/her. We did get it weight on this little one at 315 grams and about 12 to 13 days old so we named this chick Jamie. If he/she comes to ground during fledge we will band it before we put it back to the roof. The others were as follows
495 grams boy 20 days old banded C over 28 named Oli with green tape on the silver band
645 grams Girl at 19 Days old banded 08 over AB named Sasha with red tape on her silver band
405 grams boy at 17 days old banded C over 21 named Neven with Yellow tape on the silver band.
We also had a special treat today Monica Brighton of TVO attended, filmed and assisted with the banding this year and we will post some of the video or links to it soon.

Update on Tardis hatch in 2019 Don Mills Eglinton Amexon.

May 16, 2022 - Toronto - Don Mills and Eglinton - Amexon

Marion Nash Reports:

We went down to the Toronto Downtown Sheraton nest to check on the nest and can confirm that the female is Tardis produced at the Don Mills and Eglinton nest site in 2019 and the male is Spicy P produced at Canada Square Young and Eglinton Toronto in 2019.

The pair was seen bowing and chuping at each other as well as beak touching so they are still a bonded pair and they stooped the windows as we passed going into the mechanical room to the nest hatch however there were no chicks and no eggs laid as of yet.

We will continue to check on the nest and will post updates if there are any eggs laid.
