Quest

August 22, 2023 - Toronto - Don Mills

Cathy Kerr Reports:

Well, I didn’t think things could get much worse but they have. Horrible news from Don Mills. I am totally devastated to have to tell you this but our beautiful girl Quest has died. Mark got the call late this afternoon of an adult peregrine down in the Don Mills area. He rushed over to find our beloved Quest. Two fabulous women, Alexis and Tiana, watched over her all day(unfortunately they did not know to call us), keeping her safe until Mark could get there. He took her right away to TWC where they x-rayed her. She had a catastrophic injury to her wing.  Mark and the vet knew she would never fly again, she was in extreme pain and they did the right thing for her, they put her down. We are just gutted. I don’t know how else to put it. I can’t believe this. I saw her yesterday morning outside her nest box. Her home. Canuck was there this morning, now I know he was waiting for her. I’ll do a proper good bye later… RIP our beautiful, fierce, amazing girl.. Fly high

Yorgos doing well

August 20, 2023 - Scarborough - Yellow Pages

Marion Nash Reports:

I recently got an email message from Terri Martin and photos of a peregrine he’d seen on August 17th on Halls Rd in Ajax. The band number C over 44 could clearly be seen in his photos along with a shot showing the red tape on the silver band. This is Linn’s boy Yorgos the only chick hatched this spring at the Scarborough Yellow Pages nest site. I was so happy to see he was alive and doing well and looking very healthy. I always wonder when they leave the nest site area and start hunting on their own how they are doing so since Mark and I did the fledge watch there we were very happy to see this report and photos. A big thank you to Terri Martin for sending us his sighting information and for the photos.

Valkyrie update!

August 14, 2023 - Toronto - Don Mills

Cathy Kerr Reports:

Don Mills Spot check :   I headed over on Sunday to see if Valkyrie was there and he was. He was on the rooftop across from the nest building. I was there for only a short time and he sat there the whole time. I went back in the evening and he was at the top of the building across the street. He had a nice crop! I saw him Monday on my way home from work. Ted and Rob went over Monday evening and saw Quest, Canuck and Valkyrie. I got a report on Wed that there was a failed food exchange… Security reported a lot of screaming - he thought at first they were fighting but then saw the food drop to the ground… Oops! He hasn’t been spotted since then. I hope he’s off exploring, having fun…. And that he comes home one more time as I’d love to see him lol. But I know that’s not how it works. But if he does, I’ll sure let you know

Sad news for Quest & Canuck

August 13, 2023 - Toronto - Don Mills

Cathy Kerr Reports:

This is always so tough…. It is with great sadness that I have to report that we have lost Lorelei (Don Mills, 29/AB). Thank you to the community that reported a dead peregrine. I headed over immediately and found our girl this morning. She was right beside a glass bus shelter, which was in front of a parking lot full of pigeons. Her neck was broken so at least it was quick.

I am, as always, broken hearted… I’ve watched her since she hatched. She was always the first to eat, was so strong and fiesty, like her Mom. She was a great flier and didn’t take anything from her brother (as some brothers are brats… Hers was not). She loved to play with him.. Rob got some great shots of that which I have included here. I last saw her a week ago Friday. She was amazing to watch… She was buzzing her brother to play. He finally did… They ended up on the top of the tallest building… She ended up flying over to Valkyrie and hovered, yes hovered above him for at least 20-30 seconds, (with him screaming below her lol) until he finally took off with her. Amazing, I had never seen a juvie do that before (parents yes).. She was something. I am grateful she had some time to fly and be a peregrine… And grateful we have all the great pictures from Ted and Rob to remember her by. She was so beautiful. RIP, fly high little one

Great pics of Lorelei & Valkyrie!

Paige is seen down at Tommy Thompson Park!!

August 09, 2023 - Toronto - Don Mills and Eglinton - Amexon

Cathy Kerr Reports:
DON MILLS/AMEXON :  Finally doing an overdue update! I’ve been seeing less and less of the kids.  But I am still seeing them… Just one at time lol. Though I did get to see 2 of them playing but at quite a distance about a week ago. Always good to see them.
We have some wonderful shots of Paige, August 3rd, when she was visiting Tommy Thompson park! Thanks to Dana’s good eye and letting me know about the post on ebird. Pictures are by Margaret Hough.
Then on August 9th, I saw her with her parent back home! Their name does fit them - they do love to wander.

Bloor/Islington Spot Check - Tuesday, July 25 - 3:00 pm

July 25, 2023 - Etobicoke - Sun Life Centre

Marion Nash Reports:

follies with ANDRE, CASEY & ANGEL!!
The lighting wasn’t the best for capturing the antics of the afternoon, but all 3 were present and having a great time in the skies. Before I got there, I saw 2 peregrines landing on a nearby condo just west of Islington. Once I got to the nest site, I realized those were the parents, probably getting a respite LOL.
So happy to see them all flying well!

Cheers, Lucie

Kids are looking great!!
