May 30, 2019 - Toronto - Don Mills
Cathy Kerr Reports:
It was a great banding day at Don Mills!! Here is Lucie’s report and pics:
Each name bears special meaning to those who selected them.
Welcome DOHA (f, Z/70, 985g, 26 days, red tape), RZLBD (m, C/57, 715g, 26 days, yellow tape), MATRIX (m, C/58, 720g, 25 days, green tape), BOBAK (f, Z/71, 965g, 25 days, blue tape)
We extend a huge thank you to Reza Aliabadi, who invited us to do the banding in his office. The nest ledge is located outside his window and he gets the best view of this family! Since moving in last year, he has been watching Quest, Mystery guy, and their kids, and you can follow his photos on instagram: khatoon_falcon
It was a pleasure to meet him, his staff and a couple of his clients, who absolutely adore the peregrines and were so excited to be a part of this event!
The first photo (after our matriarch) is Reza and RZLBD (nicknamed Rzee). He is named after Reza’s boutique art and architecture practice: Atelier RZLBD
We wish our eyases safe and successful fledges <3 Cheers, Lucie

May 29, 2019 - Kitchener - CTV-Bell Media Tower
Marion Nash Reports:
May 28th 2019
3 healthy chicks banded yesterday 1 girl and 2 boys. We had 2 new climbers being trained by our long time volunteer John Miller who all climber the tower to extract the chicks. As usual the adults were very protective and swooped and dove on the tower yelling at the human invaders. The extraction went very well and took very little time job well done guys!
There were 3 chicks 2 boys and 1 girl all healthy and good weights. you can view the CTV news story at this link https://kitchener.ctvnews.ca/video?clipId=1693661
the female was named by the Kitchener fledge watch team Hemera banded Z over 41 she weighed 853 grams. ( red tape on silver band)
the first male was named by CTV Kawhi for those Raptor fans. Hs band number is W over 94 and he weighed 608 grams. ( blue tape on silver band)
the second male again named by the Kitchener team was named Jupiter band number W over 95 weighed in at 609 grams. ( Green tape on silver band)
The colored tape on the silver bands helps during the fledge watch as we can’t always see the band numbers at a distance.
Thanks to everyone at CTV for making this banding happen and for being wonderful nest site hosts, Anne Yagi our volunteer master bander and for all the Kitchener fledge watch team members who came out in support and who continue to help these little ones survive the fledge period, without their help most would not survive. finally a big thank you to our climbers who face the wrath of adult peregrine falcons and remain on the tower during the banding distracting them.
Here are a few photos please stay tuned for the fledge watch stories from Kitchener!

May 26, 2019 - Toronto - Don Mills
Cathy Kerr Reports:
Update from Don Mills : Sally was by on the weekend and she reports:
It was quite warm, and Quest had her back to the road, wings out slightly. One of the eyas came out to the front to have a peek out but pretty quiet for a while.
A while later, Mystery brought food and the chicks got a feed. Then pretty quiet again, except for the one (pretty big! A female?) who kept popping up to the front of the nest box, wing flaps and then back in to join her/his siblings who were pretty inactive.
Both Quest and the chick had their mouths open much of the time and by then the sun was hitting the nest box. I agree, the warmer weather has arrived suddenly!
I decided to wander down from the parking arcade to get some shade myself. As I heard an incessant alarm call from north east, I saw about 20 cyclists come up Duncan Mill Rd out of the ravine trail. I chuckled at the timing thinking: surely cyclists in 80s neon colours are not rifling a few falcon feathers…. The cyclists went by, and then I heard the alarm call again. I looked to see where it was coming from (somewhere above 240 Duncan Mill building), then heard another call from the west, saw Mystery flying deliberately to where I’d heard the other call, quickly confirmed Quest still on the nest ledge, but looking over in the same westerly direction, and then spotted the 3rd peregrine. Uh oh! Larger than Mystery. Maybe the female who got chased away from the ICIC nest? Hmmm…who knows, but Mystery called until the intruder had flown away. He circled for quite some time then disappeared, probably to a spot with a 360 view.
Quest remained unmoved from her spot, back to the street, facing into the nest.
Ciao for now
Sally
Thanks to Sally for the great report and pictures! Banding this week…

May 28, 2019 - Etobicoke - William Osler
Marion Nash Reports:
We know Malik the adult male at Canada Square 2200 Yonge St. was found dead on the roof so who is the new male? Security was finally able to get a band number on the new male Y over 31 and it is none other than Shadow produced at the William Osler Hospital in Etobicoke in 2017. Glad to see it’s a Canadian produced bird. photos to come.

May 27, 2019 - Mississauga - Executive Centre
Marion Nash Reports:
Banding day went very well. Many of the tenants, building management and security came out to see their new falcon family members.
Thanks to Kathy Smith a long time CPF volunteer who extracted the chicks and Sky Reach Window Washing who provided the lift up to the nest 2 chicks arrived in the lobby safe and sound. We have 1 male and 1 female this year and were a very healthy pair.
The female was 910 grams banded 82 over X and named Amanda with red tape on her silver band and the male was 695 grams and banded S over 49 and named Drago with blue tape on his silver band.
The adult female never left the nest ledge and Kathy had to give her a little push to move her out of the way to get the chicks and gave her the cold peregrine stare until her babies were returned.
more photos to come and announcement about the start date for the fledge watch so please keep watching.
Once again a big thanks to Colliers property management and MEC security for all their help and continued support of the MEC falcons!
