Wow, its time!!!

June 26, 2014 - Scarborough - Yellow Pages

CPF Postmaster Reports:

June 26th - 2014
I arrived on site around 1:00pm and was treated to a great time watching the young ones on the nest ledge. I watched one of the young at first exploring the ledge a bit and even spending some time on the edge. All 3 were visible during my 4 hours there with one being far more bold then its siblings. However when one of the parents brought back what looked to be a pigeon for dinner at 3:45 two of the three made there way to were the parent was and was feed with the third looking on but still a bit hesitant to come out that far. Then after food time was over two of the young ones started flapping there wing for a good while firmly on the ledge. Should be a great long weekend watching them learn there wings.

P.S. I have a couple more pics ill send in another email.

!!! Thea is on the move

June 27, 2014 - Toronto - King Street

Linda Woods Reports:

Update. Thea has made two more short flights, flying from roof top to roof top. She lost a lot of height from this morning but hopefully tomorrow she’ll have some nicer breezes and regain some altitude.  Watch continues.

Many thanks to Bruce, Paul and Nancy for helping out today.

Mom hides out!!!

June 26, 2014 - Toronto - Don Mills and Eglinton - Amexon

Cathy Kerr Reports:

I dropped by today to check on our boys and right off the bat I noticed Mom hiding out on her favorite spot over at the Forrester building on the “t”!!  Over the past two years Irma & I have observed Mom over there when the kids were getting too vocal or pestering her too much–and this year is no different lol!!  So I knew the boys had to be on the other side of the ICICI or Debeers building and sure enough they were!  Watching out(the wrong way lol–way to fake them out Mom!!) for either Chester or Jenna to come back with dinner!  Glad to see all doing so well.

Pics are of Jenna on the “t”, one of the boys on the “c” facing south and the other on the “c” facing the DVP.

The Boys Are Alright!!

June 23, 2014 - Toronto - Don Mills and Eglinton - Amexon

Cathy Kerr Reports:

I dropped by Monday and Tuesday to check on the boys–they are doing great!  I watched some pretty great flying…and some pretty heart in the mouth flying!!  Took a pic of them on Monday hanging out together on the ICICI building and on Tuesday  I got a pic of them waiting on Debeers building on the Infor sign while Mom prepared dinner above!  They are such buddies!

!!! Lancaster has multiple flights!

June 26, 2014 - Windsor - Ambassador Bridge

Marilyn Weller Reports:

Maureen sent a great report of her shift and all the excitement this afternoon:
Well today was certainly more eventful than we have had of late. Lancaster kept us on our toes; after having fledged and providing good views on the girder under the bridge light standard, he disappeared for a couple of hours before finally resurfacing on a cross girder under the bridge. He hopped around up there for 20 or 30 minutes, before attempting a very short flight and landing on the girder above the pipe where Voltaire normally sits. It was impressive to see him come down and land on the small girder. At this point Freddie saw him and did fly-bys, looked like he was trying to get Lancaster to fly to the nest. That was pretty cool to watch, dad teaching him how to fly. Freddie eventually dropped off a food package on the girder and Lancaster ate for the first time today. That was just before 3:00.
The media were with us today, both CTV and CBC (radio). The 6:00 news aired a segment on the falcons, hopefully Larry and I represented well. Larry did an awesome job explaining to the reporter(Chris Campbell) what we were doing and why, and the reporter seemed truly interested, he stuck around for well over an hour, and saw Lancaster do some hopping, sadly no flight. I didn’t hear the CBC radio report.
Maya looks ready to fly also, if she hasn’t already. The other two chicks were less active. As of 3:00 the chicks in the nest had not been fed since this morning.
The makeshift ladder has been put in place on the north side of the bridge support; the bridge company took the tree limb across the street and cut it to fit, awesome job. That was done this morning.
Now that there is at least one out of the nest, the fun begins!!

I relieved Ted and Marliese around 5:45 and they filled in the following info.

Lancaster had a big flight just before I arrived and tried landing on the steeple. Guess he did a big slide down the steeple and took off. We haven’t been able to spot him since. Marliese and Ted did walks thru the church grounds and checked trees and rooftops but can’t spot him. Given his strong flights I’m not too worried but of course would feel better if we knew for sure where he is.

More feedings during my watch, lots of flights around by Freddie and Voltaire, but still no sign of Lancaster. All quiet in the nest now.

The excitement has begun!

!!! Thea takes flight

June 26, 2014 - Toronto - King Street

Linda Woods Reports:

Our single juvenile peregrine took her first flight this morning. Staying at nest level. She made a second flight over to a neighbouring roof top maintaining her height. As of 4:30 p.m, she remains on the same rooftop as she was this morning. So far so good

The boys are flying high!

June 26, 2014 - Toronto - Sheraton Centre

Harry Crawford Reports:

Morning Shift:  I had all four boys in view from street level this
morning.  There was much more flying than yesterday and they all
remained high.  They made so much noise that a number of people were
pointing them out.  One of them made a couple of trips back to the
nest ledge.

Four boys doing well.

June 25, 2014 - Toronto - Sheraton Centre

Harry Crawford Reports:

Morning Shift:  At 9:15 I had all four boys in view.  Three were
being fed by Rhea Mae and one was perched nearby, watching.  All
four are very high up.  There was no serious flying seen but just
visits to adjacent buildings.  This is good as we had showers off
and on all morning.

Don Mills Duncan Mill update:

June 26, 2014 - Toronto - Don Mills

CPF Postmaster Reports:

June 26th-2014
A fairly quiet day. Little bit of play chasing early evening. Debbie and Murray had stopped by this afternoon and were there again for a bit when I popped down after work (Bonnie joined us). Richard popped by as well. Bonnie and I left the Duncan mill watch around 9:20pm. One juvie on 240 ledge and the other two on 225 roof. Quest brought in food to one Corner of 225 and all was pretty quiet they looked settled for the night. Bye for now!

!!! Scarborough Yellow pages fledge watch to start Friday June 27th!

June 26, 2014 - Scarborough - Yellow Pages

Mark Nash Reports:

June 26th - 2014
Well, its that time again, and we’re looking for your support to join us in Scarborough this weekend as the Scarborough Yellow pages fledge watch will begin.
Any and all of your assistance and support is most welcomed as we are still dealing the usual manpower shortages with five other fledge watches on the go.

We have two additional nest sites that we have been dealing with where we do not have the land owners permissions to go public with and further stressed with manpower resources to cover these two nest sites.

I was called last night during the rain storm to attend one of these nest site to rescue one of the four hatchlings that came our of the nest ledge and ended up in a bad situation. I was able to complete the rescue and will be taking the fledgling to OMNR this evening to be banded and then will return it back it its parents.

Hope to see you at the Scarborough Yellow pages nest site at Milner and Progress avenue this weekend, as we could really use your help.
