!!! 5 Eggs Confirmed! at King St. East

April 24, 2009 - Toronto - King Street

Linda Woods Reports:

Good Morning;

It is confirmed that there are 5 eggs at 18 King St. east this year.  I managed to catch the female come off the nest for a minute, just enough time to see all five. I wasn’t sure if it was the male came in or not, but when the adult came back to incubation, one egg was left out. As of 11:15, it appears that the egg is now with the others, under the adult.

Getting Close

April 23, 2009 - Toronto - Sheraton Centre

Linda Woods Reports:

I was back to the Sheraton this morning and Tiago was tight on the eggs. This year they have managed to keep the eggs close the edge of the nest tray. The image on the web cam is a better picture of what is going on.

I tried again to snap a picture but when I look through the viewing port, the web camera itself is blocking my photo opportunity while they are on the eggs.

Jan has reported a regular hand off of the nest today, which is very good to know.

Keep watching the web cam. Time goes quickly, and I can’t believe that it’s close to hatching. First egg was laid on March 26th, so expected a hatch near the end of April or the first few days of May.

Not even a peek

April 23, 2009 - Toronto - King Street

Linda Woods Reports:

After sitting and watching the camera monitor this morning for more than an hour, I was not able to catch the female coming off the eggs to confirm the 5 eggs.  Hopefully someone else is watching and can send in a second image to confirm the 5 eggs.  The female got up briefly, but I wasn’t able to see the clutch of eggs.

!!! Another Clutch of 5 Eggs?

April 22, 2009 - Toronto - King Street

CPF Volunteer Reports:

This photo taken from the webcam and sent into CPF from Catwoman.

This might mean King St. has for a second time in it’s history, produced a clutch of 5 eggs. Good catch of the image. Hopefully someone else will send in another image to confirm we are seeing 5 eggs and not play of the light.  Thanks so much Catwoman for sending this.  Keep your fingers crossed!

5 Eggs?

!!! New nest ledge for 2009 for the Yellow Pages pair!

April 23, 2009 - Scarborough - Yellow Pages

Kathy Smith Reports:

I was watching the birds this morning and saw them both off the site at the same time.  The first time I lost the one behind the building and then a few minutes later I saw one leave the nest site.  Think maybe I just missed seeing him return but then I was following the flight of one towards the 401 and soon after saw the other one leave the nest ledge but returned shortly after.

These are the pics.
Paul also thinks this is their site and has seen them in and out of there.

Incubation is now underway!

April 23, 2009 - Scarborough - Yellow Pages

Mark Nash Reports:

While the birds have been difficult to get a handle on this season due to their nest ledge change, it appears that we have finally got some good news. Kathy reports seeing a changing of the guard earlier this week and it appears that the full time incubation is under well underway. Until the camera is up and running, we will have to rely on the good old way of observing from the street level to further gather logistics on the happenings. Both adults were observed on site and everything seems to be playing out the way it should be. Stay tuned…..

!!! Yet another territorial dispute ending in mortality!

April 23, 2009 - Burlington - Lift Bridge

Mark Nash Reports:

Hello All

Apologizes for the lack of recent updates on my behalf, but it has been a very busy spring in the field for us, (and an early one for some of the birds that caught us off guard).

There has been so much happening and so many territorial disputes between squabbling peregrines at many of the existing nests sites here in southern Ontario this year, it has been difficult to keep up with all that has happened -  (and the Burlington nest site has been no different). I don’t know where to begin, so the best I can do at this time with so much behind us is to start with my most recent news here at the Burlington nest site.. It all played out with the recovery of a dead adult female peregrine falcon found on territory last week.

Deceased Adult Female

!!! Full time incubation is well under way!

April 23, 2009 - Mississauga - Executive Centre

Mark Nash Reports:

Apologizes for the lack of recent updates, but it has been a very difficult spring, (and an early one for the birds for sure). Recent observations of the MEC birds this week would suggest that the pair are in full time incubation with an undisclosed amount of eggs in the nest box. Due to the colder temps and all of the rain and windy conditions, the female has been in hard incubation and not giving us any opportunities to see how many eggs she’s actually incubating. The changing of the guards are happening very quickly and both adults are sticking very tight to the nest bowl. We will continue to monitor as best we can in the hope that the temps will rise, (and that the rain finally stops) so we may get a peak at the secrets that they are hiding. Stay tuned, more to come….

!!! Territorial battles and now 4 eggs have been observed!!!

May 20, 2009 - Etobicoke - William Osler

Mark Nash Reports:

We have some incredibly good news to report despite all of the bad news (and no news) from the William Osler Health Centre peregrine nest site. First the bad news - After reports streamed in two weeks ago regarding eye waitresses reports from patients waiting in the emergency waiting room of two peregrines involved in what appeared to be a battle to the death that had both peregrines eventually coming to the ground directly outside their window apparently locked in mortal combat; it appears that there was obviously a victor and a looser. Now for some better news - (There was no mortality was observed thank goodness). Fortunately the peregrines finally broke off their engagement when security arrived on the scene. Hurrah for the quick response of hospital security!!!!

And now the BEST NEWS - During my site visit last week, and with the help and support of hospital security, we visited the “peep hole” behind the nest to discover an adult female was in full time incubation mode on the nest tray. It has later been reported that there are four eggs currently being incubated. While we still have not got a handle on “who” is occupying this territory and nest site this year, we are very excited that a pair has utilized the nest tray that we installed several years ago. Stay tuned, more to come…..

Incubation Continues at the Sheraton

April 23, 2009 - Hamilton - Sheraton Hotel

Sarah Washington Reports:

This is just an update to inform you that all is well here at the hamilton site. Madame X and Surge are sharing the incubation duties which is not uncommon in Falcons.
