April 20, 2012 - Etobicoke - William Osler
Tracy Simpson Reports:
Bruce Massey stopped by the William Osler Hospital to check in on the progress of Chessie, the new resident female, and Hurricane as the pair have been working towards raising a family together this year. He went upstairs to check the camera monitor for evidence of eggs and found Chessie working on expanding the scrape in the tray, but no eggs as of yet. Back outside, Bruce was able to watch the pair in action as they flew around the building and finally landed on the east side to mate. We are unsure as to how long it has been since Chessie took over the site but we do know that if they are to nest this year, the first egg should not be far off.

April 19, 2012 - Mississauga - Executive Centre
Tracy Simpson Reports:
This has been a very exciting week for us as we have criss crossed the GTA spending time with our supporters celebrating Earth Week. This afternoon, prior to our visit at one of the TD Canada Trust branches in Mississauga, Frank and I stopped in to check on our new parents at the Mississauga Executive Centre. Just a few days ago, this pair became the proud parents of the first peregrine hatch of 2012 and today there was much to be seen on the monitor. A very determined female stood as best as she could over the wiggling pile of fluff beneath her and tried to contain them within the nest scrape. I was able to see two chicks for sure actively moving underneath her and suspected that there was a third. The presence of that third chick was confirmed by Marco of Oxford Properties and I can’t thank him enough for all of his assistance and efforts over the past few weeks as we have been trying to get the camera working once again. We are so excited for MEC and are working feverishly to get the camera up and running again as we continue to tackle the software issues that are causing the image to be inconsistent. Congratulations MEC and we await the hatching of the final egg!!! Check back shortly as we will post some pictures of the new family.

April 19, 2012 - Toronto - King Street
Linda Woods Reports:
Passing by the King St. nest this morning around 11:00, no activity. I waited for about 10 minutes and Windwhistler came into view from the south east and over to 33 Victoria St. He then flew over to first ledge of 18 King St and disappeared behind the pillar. I waited a few more minutes and he reappeared and sat on the first ledge. I had to leave and did not see a direct hand off of the nest at this time. Adult female was not seen, probably sitting on the eggs.

April 19, 2012 - Toronto - Mount Sinai Hospital
Linda Woods Reports:
Wednesday morning around 11:10 am , a quick visit found both adults paying particular attention to the second and third ledge on the east side of the east side of the hospital. The activity is more defined rather than just random visits to all the ledges. More observation is needed.

April 17, 2012 - Mississauga - Executive Centre
Tracy Simpson Reports:
Out, about and participating in Earth Week celebrations, Frank and I decided to stop in at the Mississauga Executive Centre for a peek at the monitor. The unbanded pair at this site were quick to begin the nesting season this year and were in full time incubation by March 15th and so a hatch was expected any day now. When I first checked the monitor, I found a hunch backed adult looking excrutiatingly uncomfortable and unsettled. I only had to wait a few minutes for the first little head to appear. Looking at the photo I’ve taken of the monitor, you can just make out the small, white head poking out from under the adult female’s wing. When I made my way back outside, Eternity was sitting to the right of the box on the nest ledge looking ever the proud father. Congratulations MEC, you are the first!!!!!

April 17, 2012 - Toronto - Sheraton Centre
Linda Woods Reports:
As full incubation continues, Rhea Mae and Tiago slowly move the eggs further to the back of the nesting tray. Keep watching the web cam. Ahatch is expected the week of April 26th.

April 16, 2012 - Etobicoke - William Osler
Tracy Simpson Reports:
After a day of branch visits with TD Canada Trust to kick off Earth week, Frank and I decided to stop in at the William Osler Hospital to follow up on the recent changes with the resident female on site. When we arrived the winds were howling around the building so much so that I was having a hard time walking. The first discovery was of the male, Hurricane, in the nest tray on the edge of it roosting. The female, Chessie, was on the nest ledge to the north of the tray. Hurricane took off of the tray and in some rather daring and exciting tucks and swoops, flew up to the eastern “H” and remained there for a few minutes. Meanwhile, not to be outdone, Chessie took to the air and led her own daredevil flight display before landing just to the right of the tray. Hurricane left the sign and swooped in on her for mating, then back up onto the sign. Within 15 minutes, both birds were preening and dozing off. I will be checking in regularly this week for the first egg to arrive and will keep you updated as things progress.

April 13, 2012 - Nanticoke OPG
Tracy Simpson Reports:
I went down to the Nanticoke Generating Station on Friday to check in on the resident female Marla and the unidentified male that she has spent the winter with. Upon check in I met up with Jill, my chaperone, and we headed out to the old nest cavity to determine whether there was any activity this year. We looked carefully with the scope in all of the cavities that lined the area but were unable to see any falcons or fresh activity here. Jill and I then headed over to an adjacent building to chat with some of the staff to see if they could provide any insight. According to the workers onsite, there was quite a bit of activity up until a few weeks ago when everything with the peregrines seemed to go quiet. This could definately mean that a new nesting site on the property had been chosen and incubation was underway. As we were setting out to investigate further, a female flew in from lakeside and landed low on one of the stacks. I was able to snap a few, albeit blurry, pictures of the female before she flew off around the plant and disappeared from our sights. I will be visiting the site again soon to determine where the nest is located and update you on the peregrine activities. A very big thank you to the OPG staff, and especially Jill, who took the time with me to support their local peregrines. Check back in soon for further updates on the progress of this year’s nest.

April 15, 2012 - Port Colborne - ADM Mill
Doug Garbutt Reports:
I wish I could post something interesting but the fact is that Trillium is sitting on the eggs 24/7 & it’s kind of like watching paint dry.

April 12, 2012 - Niagara Falls
CPF Postmaster Reports:
April 12th - 2012
On March 30, we have pic of empty nestbox, then on April 8, 9 and 12, full time incubation. We’re guessing probable three eggs by April 8, would mean hatching likely the week of May 8-12, banding times around June 1, with fledging third week of June.
