!!! Sad News

April 29, 2019 - Toronto - Canada Square Building - Yonge and Eglinton

Marion Nash Reports:

Last week security called to let me know that one of the Peregrine Falcons has been found dead on a ledge at 2200 Young. The photo sent shows the Canadian black band and unfortunately it’s Malik the adult male.

Believing there must have been a territorial battle I asked Bruce to go have a look and see if perhaps there was another male on site and sure enough there was. The new male is black banded so we know it’s a Canadian produced bird but were not able to get a shot clear enough to see the numbers.

Haven is down on 4 eggs and this new male is helping with incubation so we hope that the new male will be a good dad. Will keep trying to get the new male’s band numbers stay tuned.

Eggs and Intruder!!

April 28, 2019 - Toronto - Don Mills and Eglinton - Amexon

Cathy Kerr Reports:

Update from Amexon /Don Mills. I have been keeping an eye on the nest site over the past month. And for the past 3 weeks there has been an intruder around the nest! Now I can’t say for sure that it is the same bird but… Chester has quite regularly dispatched it out of the area but it(or perhaps another) keeps coming back. Yesterday Lucie joined me to start my hatch watch and yep, intruder joined us too! We had a “birds eye” view of the drama and, as Jenna joined Chester in chasing it off, we got to see the eggs! We have 2! Hopefully soon 2 fluffy bobble heads…. And no more intruders!! Fingers crossed

April 20th - 2019
Kitchener nest box cam is live! A huge thank you to to the Kitchener CTV team for getting the peregrine nest box cam back up and running!

You can view the live peregrine nest box cam at the link below….

Wow,, it sure looks like mom and dad should be doing some house cleaning before the eggs hatch! We all know that after the eggs hatch and hungry chicks are in the nest,,,, there will be absolutely NO SPARE TIME for either of the parents!! LOL

Sad news today!

April 22, 2019 - Toronto - Canada Square Building - Yonge and Eglinton

Marion Nash Reports:

April 22nd

Got a call from Oxford Property Management at Canada Square reporting a dead peregrine on the roof. Although the bird was in an area that is not accessible they were able to snap a photo of the bird through the window.

Unfortunately the banded bird is none other than Malik the adult male. He may have been in a territorial battle with another falcon and lost. We will be going out to the site soon to see if there are eggs yet and if there is indeed another falcon on site.

Stay tuned for updates.

!!! Toronto Sheraton web cam back up and running! 4 EGGS!!!

April 15, 2019 - Toronto - Sheraton Centre

Mark Nash Reports:

April 15th - 2019
A big thank you to the Toronto Sheraton IT department and Danial, our new web master for all of their support today in getting our Toronto Sheraton web camera up and running, as we now have the camera back on producing !! Surprise, surprise,,, 4 eggs!!!!

As it would seem to be the norm these days with our nest webcams issues,, the problem was again,, NOT the camera itself,, but the internet connections internally.

The not so good news, is that we have misplaced the camera’s login and password,, so sadly, we could not change the camera’s day and date stamp :-( and as such, we will have to live with the wrong date stamp on the updated images until we can get into the camera’s programming menu to make the changes there.

During the several hours that we were on site, I was able to take a few looks throughout the afternoon through our secret “peep-hole”,,, and much to my surprise,, it was the smaller adult male doing all of the incubation duties,, and he never moved all afternoon! The incubating male looked alot like Storman! But sorry, no bands were identified during this visit…… So only time will tell as to his true identity….

Once again,, at no point did we ever see the resident adult female, anywhere at anytime…. ???
So the mystery gal still remains an unknown……..

I was able to snap a quick photo this evening and got a decent shot of 4 eggs in the nest tray.

!!! Bloor & Islington down on eggs - full time incubation!!

April 10, 2019 - Etobicoke - Sun Life Centre

Mark Nash Reports:

April 10th -2019

A huge thank you to Daymar Security for all of their time and efforts dealing with the Etobicoke nest camera issues!

The good news is that both of the camera’s are working just fine, producing a great hi-res colour video stream as they were intended to do,, and have been since they were installed!

The not so good news is that it appears that the problems are with the internet service, as the internet service has been disrupted, thus the reasons that the camera’s are unable to send out any live images to the CPF web site and the Etobicoke nest site pages!

We are not sure yet if the problem lies with the modem or the actual internet service itself,, but at least we know that both nest cams are functioning and working fine!

We have contacted the building management group and asked them to further investigate as this falls outside of both Daymar’s and our control…

Hopefully, we will be back live soon…..

As a teaser and update, I was able to snap a couple of photos with my camera phone from Daymar’s laptop when they plugged directly into the camera’s network cables and was able to see the real-time live video streams from the each of the camera’s.
I must apologize for the terrible photos, but please remember that they were taken from a computer screen…

The resident adult female was down hard on the nest tray in full time incubation duties and the resident adult male was roosting on the upper ledge just above her. All seems to be well….

Stay tuned……………

!!! Confirmed… Storman has a new regular lady friend!!! Love is in the air!!!

April 11, 2019 - Toronto - King Street

Marion Nash Reports:

April 11th-2019
A big thank you to Michelle for sending her observations of the peregrine happenings (and some peregrine hanky-panky) that she observed today,,, and some great shots of two peregrines that she photographed back in January …
———————————————————————————————————————————————–

Michelle writes:

My name is Michelle, I work on the 27th floor of the Dynamic Funds tower at 1 Adelaide. We get frequent visits from Storman, at least we think its Storman based on our proximity to the 18 King Street nest.

On Monday I saw two peregrine falcons mating on a nearby building and a colleague of mine mentioned that she saw them mating outside our window on Tuesday. Love is in the air!

I have attached two photos that I took. I was able to grab a picture of them together back in January. We think that the other photo is of the ‘lady friend’. We came to this conclusion because she was on one ledge and he was on the other and Storman looked a little smaller than she did, but this is just a guess.
———————————————————————————————————————————————–

Great shots Michelle!!! While we can’t positively confirm that the male peregrine in one if your photos is in fact Storman (without a band identification),, we can confirm that one of the grins is absolutely a male and the other a female.

But is shure looks like Storman! We know him quite well! Remember that we have a long history with Stormin, as he was also the resident adult male for a number of years at the Yonge & Eglinton nest site - (the Canada Square nest site) with his previous mate named “Haven”. Haven is still nesting at the Yonge & Eglinton nest site with another mate.

As of date, while we are now only seeing one peregrine at a time down at the King Street site, (but still seeing both sexes off and on, just not at the same time), we’re pretty sure that they are down on eggs somewhere!!

The search is on in an effort to locate which ledge that they have decided to nest on??

!!! Sheraton Toronto Incubation has started

April 10, 2019 - Toronto - Sheraton Centre

Linda Woods Reports:

A quick visit to the Sheraton this afternoon and found the male in the nest tray on the eggs. Can’t confirm number of eggs at this time, or confirm the ID of the birds. I am sure it is still Chaos and Stormin. When more information comes available it will be posted.

Quest is on eggs!!

April 09, 2019 - Toronto - Don Mills

Cathy Kerr Reports:

I stopped by today to check on Quest and Mystery Guy and found Quest down on eggs in the nest box!!  She was peeking out from the nest box–I could hardly see her. I got a few pictures but I was across the street, in the parking lot but she looked pretty cute!  We will have to wait for hatch to find out how many this year…Sure miss the camera and all our friends at Harlequin with their great observations!

April 08, 2019 - Toronto - Don Mills

Cathy Kerr Reports:

Some wonderful news from Peregrine Falcons Southeast Michigan website!  A watcher, Brian Doan, sent this excellent picture clearly showing his bands!!  Kathy Majich identified him for them, (black, X/84) as TT from 2018 hatch at Don Mills site!!  He was visiting the Pere Marquette Railroad Bridge in Port Huron, Michigan where Brian got this shot!!  So great to see him doing so well!!  So glad we still band them, for moments like this!!
