April 11, 2014 - Etobicoke - William Osler
Tracy Simpson Reports:
Yesterday afternoon I received a call from Ross Bartlett from the William Osler Hospital staff who informed me that Hurricane and Chessie’s first egg has arrived. After my site visit on Monday we suspected that an egg was coming quite soon as she was spending more time in the nest tray and showing the usual signs of readiness. Congratulations to the William Osler Hospital for their first egg of 2014!

CPF Postmaster Reports:
April 10th - 2014
This afternoon, Madam X finally laid her second egg! Congrats Hamilton! While this quite a spread between the first and the second egg, this conforms to the rather unusual happenings that we had so at many of the nest sites around southern Ontario that we are monitoring.
Typically when we see this long spread between eggs, it usually points to other outside stresses that is going on, most of time from competition from other peregrine(s) challenging the resident pair for their territory. These types of stresses on the resident pair both disrupts their copulation routines, in addition to causing a flux in the females hormone levels and can interrupt the females fertilization and egg production.
Time will tell.

Doug Garbutt Reports:
It’s a little frustrating down here. Trillium laid her 2nd egg of the year on Fri. Apr. 4th 7am & by noon she was eating it. We may have a possible explanation because on Tues. Apr. 08 there were 3 falcons in the box, Trillum, Bill & another male who were pecking at each other. Perhaps this is the reason for the strange behaviour of eating eggs. However, there is still hope as Trillium produced another egg (3rd) this morning. Hopefully it works out better for them this time.

Kathy Reports:
O’Connor’s egg hiding skills have been spectacular this year. Several of us suspected she had 4 eggs all along especially given her incubation starting on March 31st but she was only showing us 2 or 3 at any given time.
She finally got up and moved the eggs around and DEF from Netherlands was able to catch this wonderful capture of proof of 4 eggs just awhile ago!
