June 15, 2013 - Mississauga - Executive Centre
Tracy Simpson Reports:
Well, she’s flown. When I arrived at just after 6am, Ashley had already taken her first flight off of the rooftop to parts unknown, at least to me anyways. Cass was on MEC 2 calling and Sante was not in view at the time. I started a walkabout to check and make sure that her flight didn’t ground her at any of the buildings and I circled each one in turn. No Ashley. So I set up at MEC 3 and waited to see if the parents would reveal anything. No clues were given. Food came into the ledge at 6:30am and I waited for a pop up on the retaining wall of the roof. None. Food came in again at 7:15am and I waited for a pop up. Nothing. Something was up as there isn’t a juvenile Peregrine falcon in the known universe that wouldn’t investigate the possibility of food and scream to the world about it, but where did she get to. I again walked the four buildings of the MEC complex but I was unable to find her and so I set up at the watch post at MEC 3 and waited for the calvary to arrive. At 9am, Shannon and Katherine met up with me and we organized a walkabout to make sure that Ashley was not in danger anywhere. We searched from Hurontario to Rathburn to Burnhamthorpe and along Robert Speck Parkway but no clue as to Ashley’s whereabouts could be uncovered. It almost appeared as though the parents had lost her as well. They circled the building low focussing on her last known location and then expanded to the neighbourhood with Mama Cass calling her to come home for lunch. This continued all day as Catherine continued to get fed on the ledge. When Margaret arrived, she and Katherine continued the search around MEC 1 which garnered the attention of the adults. Both were sitting on the north side of the nest building and looking down at the last place they saw Ashley. It leads me to believe that they know as much about where she is as we do. The adults checked all of the window wells on the east and north side of the nest building and were in and out of the box frequently checking on Catherine and looking for Ashley. Catherine was content to stay at home and has not yet jumped the gap. By the end of the day, after extensive searches were made, Ashley’s location remained a mystery to all of us and Catherine remained on the nest ledge. We were joined by Winston for the evening and we checked the rooftop to be sure and I could not see her anywhere. We will be back in the early morning to continue our vigilant watch on Catherine and watch for Ashley’s return. My heartfelt thanks go out to the watchers and searchers Katherine, Shannon, Margaret and Winston as I could not do one thing without compromising the other. Your help has been outstanding and I cannot thank you enough.

June 23rd - 2013
Hi Mark
Still no fledge for our little female AM-E!! She is a stubborn one! Pierre was there this morning and reported only seeing Mom, Dad & one baby–most likely our Lucky. I went over for the evening shift–had eyes on all 4! Superman - (Lucky to you lol) was doing his usual wonderful flying. Still trying to land on a letter just like his Dad- but he’s just not quite got it down yet!! At bedtime, Mom & Dad were on their usual letters tucked in for the night, with Superman 3 ledges down from them. Little AM-E was across on the nest building roofing, crying for them to come and feed her but I think some tough love is going on here now–its time for her to FLY!! Maybe tomorrow….just hope someone to rescue her if she comes down to the ground, its a very long way up for a new inexperienced fledgling to get back to on her own. I am back to work tomorrow - (I need some rest LOL).

June 19, 2013 - Etobicoke - William Osler
Tracy Simpson Reports:
We started the official fledge watch at William Osler Hospital today with much fanfare from the young ones. With the naming contest entering its final round, the chicks will be referred to by their tape colours in the interim. When I took a look at the young ones today, they were still sporting a lot of down and it was clear that they weren’t quite ready yet for their next adventure in life. Even so, it didn’t deter them from ripping around the nest ledge and wreaking havoc as they went. Chessie and Hurricane did their utmost best to keep them together for now but Little Boy Blue had other plans. He bounced down the ledge along the south side to where a swing stage is set up for some external work. He thought the ropes were pretty funny looking and was obviously curious how they tasted. I think the rope taste turned him away and he bounced back home. His siblings were busy trying to pick out the last of their down and exercise for the flights to come. After spending several hours on site it was clear that the Brat Pack weren’t ready to fly yet. They were still too busy practicing their screaming!! I think Little Boy Blue will be our first explorer of the world beyond the ledge.

June 23, 2013 - Toronto - Don Mills
Ann Brokelman Reports:
At 5:30 Donna H, my daughter Julie and I observed both juveniles at Don Mills on 240. Carina was in the same spot as yesterday - and Luna was very low on the building. No sign of adults.
Luna took off and flew across garage and into the window on the east side of the nest building, did an about face and flew down the road going east and around the pink building. We found he on top of the south wall of the pink building. She seemed to be fine.
Shortly after Kendal came in circled the building and landed on Harlequin, flew to ledge above Carina, flew to east side of nest building then back to the top of 240.
Immediately Carina started to call, flap her wings and then she took a poop and off she flew - across the garage and around the back of the building landing safely on the north side of nest building. She was sitting there panting. YES we were very very excited.
We had to leave but Murray and Deb arrived for watch.
Murray watched Carina get fed by Kendal (finally)
and Deb watched Luna still on pink building flapping her wing.

She stayed there for the till 1330 Hrs. when she flew, again tried for top of NB, couldn’t make it, and landed @ roof level of E. Condo middle of the Building.
1400 Hrs- After balancing along 4 railings, and working her way as far W on the E condo she made a strong flight, and in spite of being initially a little high landed back in the NL and promptly fell asleep.
1435 Hrs -2115 Hrs.- The next few hours were pretty routine, sleep, exercise get fed & scream @ Mom or Dad as they flew by.

June 23, 2013 - Etobicoke - Sun Life Centre
Bruce Massey Reports:
• Pretty uneventful morning, some flapping, 1 or 2 feedings resting.
• Around noon everyone down for Nap along rear wall. The Ledge had direct Sunlight on it.
•1345 Hrs. 1st Fledge (Green), strongly off to South, looped back to NB, Kept good height but still below ledge level. She flew between NB & Middle Building. Adult Female by this time following her and was right behind her when she disappeared. Called Baily as other Bird was active. Went checking, and when I got to Bloor & Islington the female had caught a pigeon and took it up to NW corner of middle building. I continued my Circle going over to the Parking Lot by the railway bridge. Saw nothing, but did have some feathers wafting down @ the rear of the NB, but no birds. I continued my walk and as I was coming W by the Bell building,
• 1400 Hrs- I had a juvenile PeFa come from the N, and attempt a landing on the S side of W Condo, about 5-6 floors above the Mezzanine. She slipped off, flew S over Bloor, back to the NB about 3 stories above the Mezzanine, and then fluttered to the top of the entranceway.
•1430 Hrs.- After a 1/2 Hour or so she showed up in the E gap, For the next 6.5 Hrs. she basically was in this position with several forays on to Mezzanine Roof, she also made one short flight. But most of the time she did what most females do, she answered the question how long a female (Female ) can look in a Mirror (Glass).
•2110 Hrs.- During the above time it was determined that the first fledge was by Layton, (Green Tape). After the time (6.5 Hrs), she slipped down to the sidewalk. She made a short flight startling the couple walking by @ the time. They were further surprised when 2 people came running across the street w/Towels converging on this bird. After 1 missed attempt, the bird was herded by towel to the stairs by Parking Garage Entrance and retrieved, much to Kathy’s surprise we had O’Connor the resident female coming screaming to streetlight level and indeed land on one to observe the retrieval. She actually stay there for 20 minutes or so. After the big healthy girl was put in the Rescue Carrier in the Security. We then headed back out to the street to wait for Dark as our Release Protocol dictates. Layton was successfully & safely released back onto the NB roof around 2200 Hr. and a the days watch was finished.

June 23, 2013 - Toronto - Sheraton Centre
Harry Crawford Reports:
Day 9 - morning shift.
When I arrived, Gurdy and her brother were in the same spot as Linda
had indicated closing yesterday’s watch. I noticed a peregrine
heading for the Metro Hall area so I spent an hour down there but
didn’t find anything. When I returned to York and Adelaide, the
chick that was on the TD Bank building had moved to DBRS. He then
flew over to 150 York to join his sister - great flight and good
landing. The two birds were tapping beaks and preening each other.
The third bird was not seen.

June 22 - 2013
Had some help today at ICICI!! Many thanks to Pierre, Barb, Lucy & Richard for their eyes on our two! They report that Lucky (aka Superman) is flying superbly!! What a guy–he is even doing a little “J” ing!! He decided at around 8:45pm to try and land on a letter like his Mom & Dad, only to slide down off!! But he got his wings and flew back to the nest building only to fly right back to the De Beer’s building, with Mom in quick pursuit!! Around to the back of De Beer’s they went with him landing on the top floor and there he stayed for the night! His sister finally decided to show her face and ventured on the ledge of the roof, but that’s as far as she went! But at least we saw her lol. Everyone was very impressed at how lovey Mom & Dad are–they really are a sweet couple. This is a great site to watch some wonderful flying–maybe tomorrow our AME(Amy) will try some!!!
