CPF Postmaster Reports:
June 19th - 2012
A big thank you to Leslie for sending in this observation report and photos of one of the Sun Life fledglings that came to visit.
Leslie writes:
I was reading on your website about the falcons at sun life centre and saw one on Sunday. I believe it was Euro. He was perched outside our office (20th floor, west tower, south wall), as in the attached pictures.
I am so happy to read about them and see how well they are doing.
Thank you Leslie!

June 20, 2012 - Windsor - Ambassador Bridge
Dennis Patrick Reports:
We are still on Watch duty due to the fact that Eddy was the last to fledge and has some trouble at times with her landing skills. Thank you to all of the Volunteers that are there at sunrise and then again especially in the evenings until dark. This week we are finding the mornings and evenings are the best time to see them all flying around. It’s amazing to see them fly around the Bridge and landing.

June 20, 2012 - New York - Rochester
Kathy Reports:
Congratulations to Beauty, DotCa and all the Rochester Fans! The little one came into the world at approximately 6:07 am as we were watching on cam. DotCa was in attendance to greet his first offspring having just brought Beauty her breakfast!
DotCa was born at our Etobicoke, Bloor and Islington nest site in 2010 so we are all thrilled with this news!

June 19, 2012 - Toronto - King Street
Linda Woods Reports:
A hot, humid day greeted all the volunteers at the various nest watches. Today at King St was generally quiet day, as the peregrines camped out in the shade for the most part. Harry and Zoe, wereon site early this morning but by 10:30 the heat was already holding the birds down. I arrived late this afternoon and had no birds in view. I returned 6p.m. and saw Windwhistler and Erin in sight, one was on the spire of St.James Church and the other on Dundee Place. Aphrodite and one of the brothers, were sitting on the roof of the nest building. I did not have three of the juveniles in view at one time. I left around 7:50p.m, when Paul arrived to do some observing. Hope they all show up, just for Paul.

June 19, 2012 - Etobicoke - Sun Life Centre
Kathy Reports:
And no wonder, with the humidex reaching a high of 42 Celsius this afternoon. I did hear the kids this morning around 7:30 but no sightings of them or the parents today. No doubt they are staying high and out of the sun.
Baylie saw all 3 flying together yesterday and I saw both O’Connor and heard Jack at one point during my lunch break. Another of our watchers Rob also reported seeing all three flying around as well. They put on a great show for us on Sunday morning!
With the heat wave expected to last until Thursday, I expect sightings will be infrequent until it cools down.

June 18, 2012 - Toronto - Hearn Power Station
CPF Postmaster Reports:
June 18th - 2012
Despite the ongoing challenges and problems at this site, up until now at least, everything has been going well for the proud pair and their new family as close monitoring continues for the second season. The 2012 fledge watch continues for its second day and the three young hatchlings have been growing quickly and are getting ready to start taking their first flights.
Sadly, yesterdays news was not so good in that the resident adult female was rescued from the ground close to the bike trail with a wing injury down the road from the nest site. Bruce Massey, the CPF’s Hearn fledge watch coordinator transported the injured resident adult female to medical attention and we are still waiting for ward back as to her condition.
The resident adult male (identified last year by his leg bands as being Peter), - ( peregrine produced at the Hamilton Sheraton nest site in 2010) is struggling this season to keep up with the food demands of his three hatchlings given his mates absence. So far, the three young hatchlings have yet to take their first flights and remain in the nest.
Last year, the pair were successful in raising and fledging two hatchlings and had a very good go-round. Sadly, the two fledglings were not banded, as they had both fledged by the nest site was brought t our attention.
June 17th - 2012 Fledge watch - Day 1
Bruce Massey Reports”
On the first official day of the watch, it was pretty uneventful. Arrived around 0845 Hrs. and found all 3 Eyesis present. They quieted down around 0900.
For the next 5-6 Hrs it was quiet with the few times one or several of the chicks stood up, flapped their wing or even a little “Falcon Tai Chi”
The resident adult male was never too far away but didn’t see resident adult female all day. Something is not right given her absence all day with three very hungry chicks in the nest.
Left around 1930 Hrs. with the start of the heavy rain.
B.E. Massey
Foot Note:
Now that we have a Hearn nest page finally up on the CPF web site, we will over the next few days fill in all of the historical oberservations, photos from 2011 and 2012, in addition to providing the details as to what hs been going on down at this nest site.
Stay tuned for more updated news on the situation as the fledge watch continues….

Mark Nash Reports:
June 19th - 2012
Murray reports at 7:30 am this morning that all three siblings are together on the roof of 225 and sharing some stories of their ordeals and experiences! Amora certainly has a story to tell her brother and sister from last night given her ordeal with “Human”!
Cathy reports around 8:30 am that Quest flew in to the rooftop of 225 with food and the three fledglings and mom has breakfast together. (Well sort of, as the three fledglings had breakfast)! A very loud screaming noisy event indeed!!
These final photos of Amora’s examination just prior to her release were taken by Cathy Kerr.
Thanks for sharing these with us, and for everyone that assisted in both her rescue and release last night.
Stay tuned………

June 18th - 2012
A big thank you to Joan for sending in her photos that she snapped of Amora who visited their second floor window ledge. Amora spent some 12 plus hours more than a little confused with the windows and all of the attention she was getting from the on-lookers below and behind the glass. Amora was likely the most photographed peregrine in history yesterday!

June 18, 2012 - Burlington - Lift Bridge
Sue McCreadie Reports:
The kids are doing great. They are fairly quiet until an adult brings in a food package and then all heck breaks loose. The kids come from everywhere screaming. Successful food hand offs have been observed as well as lots of talon touching and games of tag. After one successful food drop, we saw Crock Pot Jimmy take the meal to one of the beams of the Burlington Tower. Port Hope and Carrey followed. It was heartwarming to see them all share the food.

June 18, 2012 - Scarborough - Yellow Pages
Mark Nash Reports:
June 18th - 2012
A spot check with Yellow Pages today yielded some disturbance results indeed that has us more than concerned. It would appear that while we are on track with the official starting of the fledge watch tomorrow given the photos of the hatchlings taken on Monday, it might appear that one of the hatchlings is missing!
Kathy, the Scarborough Yellow pages fledge watch coordinator conducted a extensive search of the facility with the help of Paul and they were not able to located the third hatchling.
Two of the three hatchlings remain in their nest ledge and both resident adult parents are attending. It is incredibly bazar although that the past five days of spot checks have produced some unusual behaviours from both the adults and the hatchlings.
Typically at this time of the hatchlings development, we are seeing them up on the rim of the nest ledge flapping and carrying on in the usual fashion. Both Bruce and now Kathy have reported over the past week that this has not been the norm out here this year.
While it is entirely possible that our missing hatchling has already been ledge hopping (and there are allot of ledges to hide out in), it is noticeably odd that we haven’t seen allot of ledge hopping and flapping.
Kathy will be out there again Tuesday doing an extensive property search and facility search from the ground to see if we can spot the missing hatchling.
We are calling on all available fledge watchers to join us on Wednesday June 20th to participate in the Yellow Pages fledge watch.
Stay tuned……………
