Rhea Mae and Tiago Bonding at Toronto Sheraton Hotel

March 19, 2012 - Toronto - Sheraton Centre

Tracy Simpson Reports:

Some quick snapping watchers caught sight of Rhea Mae and Tiago at the Toronto Sheraton Hotel today busily preparing a scrape for this seasons eggs.  As shared with me by observers, the pair were very active at the site today and were on camera for the better part of the day.  While there are no eggs as of yet, they are certainly getting prepared for the season.

Adult Male at Duncan Mill Road with Quest

March 19, 2012 - Toronto - Don Mills

Tracy Simpson Reports:

A quick update from Ann Brokelman regarding the 220 Duncan Mill Road nest site. It would appear, although not confirmed yet, that Kendal returned to the site on Friday and has been seen in the nest box excavating a scrape. The male, shown in the photographs, dons a black recovery band indicating that he is a Canadian male and we will work to confirm the numbers on the band this week. It is believed to be Kendal and the pair are working within the nest box that CPF installed last fall in preparation for nesting.

!!! No eggs as yet, but soon!

March 16, 2012 - Etobicoke - Sun Life Centre

CPF Postmaster Reports:

March 16th - 2012
Another quickly update on the Sun life peregrines. A very nice day indeed, sunny and very warm! No eggs as yet, but the resident adult female was on hand roosting on the nest ledge when I arrived. No sign of Jack, (the resident adult male) during my visit.
Stay tuned for more updates………..

!!! No eggs yet, but its getting close!

March 16, 2012 - Toronto - King Street

CPF Postmaster Reports:

March 16th-2012
A quick update from 18 King Street nest site after spending some time observing the resident adults activity on site today. While there are two very fresh scrapes on the nest ledge, there were no eggs present as yet. Both resident adults were on hand and spent some time on and off the nest ledge during our visit.

As far as the new colour camera is concerned, we are planning to re-establish an internet connection so we can get the live camera image of the nest ledge to you as oon as we can.
Stay tuned…………..

!!! 3 plus eggs - adults in full time incubation!!

March 16, 2012 - Mississauga - Executive Centre

CPF Postmaster Reports:

March 16th - 2012
Just a short note after skipping out of the Toronto Sportsmen Show to do a few rounds to check up on the status of some of the nest sites, we were pleasantly surprised to find the resident adult male in hard incubation - full time cooking as we say, with at least three eggs. The resident adult female was on hand, but taking a brake roosting on the upper roof area of MEC #4.

Although the male didn’t give up much of a view, the inside TV monitor did give us a partial look as he attempted to reposition himself and cover the eggs. The camera is producing a good image, and efforts are being made to get another computer assembled and working so we can get the live camera image back on the CPF web site for global viewing.
Stay tuned……………

Day Two of the Sportsmans Show; Fantastic!!

March 15, 2012 - CPF Events

Tracy Simpson Reports:

The second day of the Toronto Sportsmans Show has come and gone and was once again a fabulous turnout.  Again a beautiful day to spend with our feathered educators engaging the public and answering questions about these amazing birds.  One of the highlights of the show was our very own Bubo the Eagle Owl and Max the Harris Hawk performing a short flight demonstration on stage right by our booth.  These two just love to fly and we shared their skill and their stories with a crowd of over 100 people.  Presentations are once every day at 5pm so make sure you come by the fly zone and meet Bubo and Max!  Pictures will be coming very soon!!

First Day at the Toronto Sportsmans Show was Amazing!!

March 14, 2012 - CPF Events

Tracy Simpson Reports:

The first day at the show this year was a great turnout and fantastic opportunity for us at the CPF to bring our beautiful educational birds to see you. The folks that came over to our booth at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre were greeted by all of our volunteers and feathered family where we shared stories and insights into the amazing lives of the birds of prey that we share our environment with. The highlight of today was a visit by Master Corporal Adam Winnicki and Master Corporal Chris Abate from the Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada and we were proud to have the opportunity to have them hold Alexandra and Nova for the cameras!! We have had a great day today and look forward to seeing you at the show!! More photos to come soon!!

!!! Getting Down to Business

March 15, 2012 - Etobicoke - Sun Life Centre

Kathy Reports:

I finally witnessed some mating today at 12:25!  I know it’s been taking place as I can hear them periodically however they are using the Sun Life roof tops this for this year’s activities so they are not always visible from the ground.

Jack seems to be alternating between our site and his other site as always so I see a lot of Angel sitting patiently by her nest box waiting on him.

!!! Freddie and Voltaire very chummy

March 15, 2012 - Windsor - Ambassador Bridge

Dennis Patrick Reports:

The nest box is home sweet home for Freddie and Voltaire. You can tell that it’s their home and don’t even think about touching it. We got there around 6 last evening, Freddie was on the east side of the abudment eating his dinner, Voltaire was sitting on the cross beam, preening herself, why not she has a male in her life that she wants to keep. She then flew on to the lower beam and ate her dinner. While she was eating Freddie flew on to the nest box and waited until she was done then he flew down and we saw them copulate again. This time it took a little longer than the last time we saw it happen. It’s one thing to hear about that but it’s another thing to see it in person. It’s amazing how they go on with life even though it’s so noisy there with the traffic going across on the Bridge.
Please stay tuned for more updates as the season continues.
