!!! Canadian Peregrine Foundation birds of prey booth at the Toronto Sportsmen’s Show

March 05, 2022 - CPF Events

Marion Nash Reports:

Due to Covid-19 and the number of cases in Ontario the long time Sponsor for our booth at the Toronto Sportsmen’s Show has suspended funding for our booth for 2022 and informed us that they are not funding any large indoor events at this time. We are also concerned for the health and safety of all of our volunteers who man the booth every year so we have decided not to attend the show this year and hope to resume next spring.

Bacquerel Fixed and Free April 27,2021

April 27, 2021 - CPF Events

Marion Nash Reports:

As reported early this spring Bacquerel band number X over 75 produced at
the Ontario Power Generation Pickering nest in 2017 had been found in
Downtown Toronto injured and taken to Toronto Wildlife. We expected that he
had gotten into a fight with the male from the 18 King site since he had
been seen there only a couple of weeks prior.

I am happy to report that he was finally been given the green light to be
released. Today we sent Mark Nash to pick him up and take him to be released
in an area with no other peregrine nests and loads of prey. All went well
and Bacquerel flew off free from captivity and as a bachelor free from
responsibility but we hope the latter will change soon this time without
getting into a fight.

CPF Educational Birds at the Woodbridge Fair!!

October 06, 2012 - CPF Events

Tracy Simpson Reports:

Today was the first of three days that the CPF educational birds will be meeting and greeting the public and what a day it was!!  Today was a chilly but awesome day with Cheyenne, Oscar, Seamus and of course our Bubo all on hand visiting with the public. A huge thank you to Peter and Winston for joining us at the Fair. When I went out for a break, they were weighing in the pumpkins for the “biggest” contest and of the first several, at least three were over 1000Lbs!! Even wilder was the 4Lb tomato that someone brought in. Great fun and a great day!! See everyone tomorrow!!

Day Two of the Sportsmans Show; Fantastic!!

March 15, 2012 - CPF Events

Tracy Simpson Reports:

The second day of the Toronto Sportsmans Show has come and gone and was once again a fabulous turnout.  Again a beautiful day to spend with our feathered educators engaging the public and answering questions about these amazing birds.  One of the highlights of the show was our very own Bubo the Eagle Owl and Max the Harris Hawk performing a short flight demonstration on stage right by our booth.  These two just love to fly and we shared their skill and their stories with a crowd of over 100 people.  Presentations are once every day at 5pm so make sure you come by the fly zone and meet Bubo and Max!  Pictures will be coming very soon!!

First Day at the Toronto Sportsmans Show was Amazing!!

March 14, 2012 - CPF Events

Tracy Simpson Reports:

The first day at the show this year was a great turnout and fantastic opportunity for us at the CPF to bring our beautiful educational birds to see you. The folks that came over to our booth at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre were greeted by all of our volunteers and feathered family where we shared stories and insights into the amazing lives of the birds of prey that we share our environment with. The highlight of today was a visit by Master Corporal Adam Winnicki and Master Corporal Chris Abate from the Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada and we were proud to have the opportunity to have them hold Alexandra and Nova for the cameras!! We have had a great day today and look forward to seeing you at the show!! More photos to come soon!!

!!! CPF at Ottawa Sportsmans Show

February 27, 2012 - CPF Events

Frank Butson Reports:

From Feb 23-26th CPF staff, volunteers and most importantly our feathered educators enjoyed their first Ottawa Sportsmans Show. The folks of Ottawa were very generous and loved our birds of prey exhibit. Many show-goers enjoyed their first up-close and personal visit with Alexandra the Great..Horned Owl, Seamus the Barn Owl(a real hit with everyone), Kyla our wee sweet American Kestrel, 2 of our beautiful Peregrine Falcons, Oscar and Nova and making his show debut was our Redtailed Hawk, Tomahawk(Tom-A-Hawk) or Tommy for short.  The birds loved the attention they got and all of the new friends they made in Ottawa. Thousands of attendees admired and learned about each birds unique traits, conservation efforts and many relayed stories to us. It was a great show and we hope to be back again same time next year!
