Mark Nash Reports:
It appears that the adult peregrines on site at Scarborough Bell building were more than active today to say the least!! After hooking up with Marion and Bruce on site in the late afternoon and early evening after a flurry of telephone calls from Marion to hurry up and get there with the camera, I was blown away by the amount of observations that that that the two had witnessed. The adult pair were observed in full courtship mode, with at least 8 copulations having been witnessed in less than three hours. With lots of vocalizing, and many short flights with the pair in and out of the hack box on numerous occasions. While the adult male never gave them a real good look at his leg bands, the adult female did, exposing her Black over Green band, 91 over V. After checking my e-mail communication from our good friends in Rochester from last year, it appears that the adult is non-other than Linn, produced in Rochester New York at the Kodak nest site in 2007. She was photographed and observed several times last year with an adult male also wearing a Black over Green coloured leg band and a pinkish /purple coloured USFW band,, both at the Scarborough water tower and the Bell building. While the photos I have are not the best and were taken after all of the best action had finished, it does show an decent view of Linn as she appeared from the inside of the hack box. Look for Marion’s report
Stay tuned………

Mark Nash Reports:
With a huge thanks to Bill and Sue for getting the adult male’s band number (Solid Black band 01 over V), we finally have an identity on the new adult male at the Burlington nest site. Its non-other than Sir Adam Beck, produced at the Toronto King street nest site in 2006. Named by one of our sponsors (Ontario Power Generation), banded on June 9th/2006 at 32 days old, weighing in at 650 grams.
Now the focus is on the adult female to get a positive ID on her. She continues to brood her three new hatchlings and making it difficult to get any detailed views of her leg band numbers. we suspect that it is the same female that was photographed earlier in March and in May of this year as having a Black over green band K over 83.
Time to warm the cameras up folks……… Stay tuned………..

Sue McCreadie Reports:
Bill and I arrived at the bridge around 1:15 pm. One adult was in the nest box and the other on the old nest ledge. At 1:35, “Dad” picked up prey from a “picnic table” and commenced cleaning. I guess ‘Mom” thought he was taking too long because at 1:41 she tore out of the nest box and stole the prey right out of “Dads” talons. She went right to the nest box and commenced feeding the young. The feeding lasted until 1:52 when “Mom” left the nest box and deposited the remains on the Hamilton Hydro Tower then returned to the nest box. At 2:52 “Dad” stood guard on the corner of the nest box while “Mom” stretched her wings with a couple of circles around the tower. She then retrieved the prey from the Hydro Tower and commenced the next feeding.
Location – Location - Location
Mom remained in the nest box until 4:05, when a third falcon (by size I would guess another female) made an appearance and both “Mom” and “Dad” took chase. The intruder was quickly driven off and “Mom” returned to the box while “Dad” stood watch from the Hamilton Hydro Tower. They remained there until we left at 5:00 pm.
We are pleased to report that a third “little white head” appeared over the edge of the box today. It appears to be quite a bit younger as it was doing the head bob while the others appeared stronger.
We were also able to see through the scope that “Dad” is sporting a black band with what appears to be: 01 over V.

Mark Nash Reports:
Well, it appears that our mystery birds are back, and this time they seem pretty serious about things! Another late night at the CPF office had us passing Pharmacy and Eglinton after 7pm only to see two adult peregrines hanging around the old hack box. We pulled off and turned in to take a closer look. After more than 2 hours of watching, well into the darkness, the two adult peregrines were observed in and out of the hack box on at least four occasions, and spent time together in the hack box out of our sight for several minutes at a time. Lots of vocalizing and eee-chupping going on throughout the entire two hours. While we didn’t see any copulations, we stayed until darkness in anticipation that might witness something to indicate that the two mystery birds were attempting to set up house. Sadly, we only had a point and shoot camera on hand, and were unable to get any good photos. No ID’s were confirmed. We’ll be watching the site very closely from here on in. Even “Portly” the groundhog was on hand to take a look at what all of the fuss was about. Stay tuned……

Two hatches at King St. There are still 3 eggs to hatch.
Unfortunately we are experiencing problems with ourweb server and it’s inability to display our web cam images.,or post images to the web site. The problem has been identified and will be addressed as soon as possible. With the assistance of our webmaster and the servers’ IT department, we hope to be back live, tomorrow. Hopefully.
In the mean time, I will do my best to post updates as soon as possible. Photos will be added when we are able to do so.

May 12, 2009 - Toronto - Sheraton Centre
Linda Woods Reports:
All four of Rhea Mae and Tiago’s brood are doing well. Early this morning I observed the chicks to be very alert and busy preening. One even explored the nest tray making it’s way to the other side of the tray next to the web camera. It tugged at Rhea’s tail feathers at which time Rhea turned and discovered the little one preening her tail feathers. Very cute, too bad the video is much too large for the website.
At this time we are experiencing challenges with the web server transmitting our live images from the web cams at both the Sheraton and King St. nest sites. It also will not post images, as I just discovered.
This is unfortunate and the problem will be addressed as soon as possible. With a little luck and experience from the server’s IT department, we hope to have it back tomorrow, hopefully.

Mark Nash Reports:
Congratulations MEC management and staff!!
I had the opportunity to to make a quick stop at the MEC nest site today after my presentations in Milton, and as I has suspected,, we have confirmation of a hatch - TIMES THREE!! The adult male was currently keeping his new family members warm when the adult female arrived shortly after I arrived about 2:30 pm.. The pair did a shift change with the adult female arriving with food to feed her new family. The hatchlings (approx. 24 to 36 hours old at the oldest) only ate a thimble size portion of food that took the adult female all of 4 minutes to complete feeding all three hatchlings. Unable to hold their heads up for longer than a few seconds, they were each fed after some coaxing by the adult female. While the photos that I have added with this post aren’t the best as they were taken with with my point and shoot digital camera of the small TV monitor that displays the live camera image. Sadly, no leg bands of the either of the adults was observed during this visit. But its only a matter of time before we get an ID on the happy pair. Stay tuned……Enjoy!

May 12, 2009 - Burlington - Lift Bridge
Sue McCreadie Reports:
Bill and I arrived at the Lift Bridge around 12:15 and saw an adult sitting upright in the nest box. At 12:20 Mom took off (I assume it was her) and returned at about 12:27. At 12:30 Dad (I assume) delivered a pigeon to the nest box. Mom did a little more cleaning, ate herself and then all of a sudden two little white heads appeared over the edge of the box and Mom started to feed them. The feeding continued until 12:45. At 1:20, Dad landed on a ledge just below the nest box with a Baltimore Oriole in his talons. He cleaned it, ate part of it and then carried the rest to a storage spot on the face of the Hamilton Tower. I guess he was going to save it for the next feeding. Mom remained in the nest box, out of sight for the remainder of our visit. From their size, I would guess that they were hatched on maybe Friday or Saturday.
Perhaps there are more than 2, but we are sure happy to be able to confirm 2.
Unfortunately, still no photos to share.
