New Games

July 21, 2008 - Burlington - Lift Bridge

Sue McCreadie Reports:

Hi All, I just had to report this as it was just so funny to see.

There must be something in the water in Burlington to cause this unusual behaviour. This afternoon, the girls took off, flying just above the trees, on the lake side of the Burlington pier. We watched them dip and dive and saw that they were picking leaves from the top of the trees. The next thing we knew, Nebesny arrived back at the “picnic table” with leaf in talons, followed closely by Nellie. As Barry said, “these birds must want salad with their Pigeon McNuggets.” Hopefully, you will be able to see the “salad” in the talons in this photo Bill took of Nebesny on the “picnic table”.

Reported by Sue McCreadie.

All is Quiet

July 18, 2008 - Etobicoke - Sun Life Centre

Linda Woods Reports:

We are sorry for the temporary disruption of the video feed from the webcam. Unfortunately, the problem is a little more complicated than my abilities to fix at this time. The issue is being investigated.
While I was there, I didn’t see any activity from the peregrines, all was quiet.

Only two in view

July 17, 2008 - Toronto - Sheraton Centre

Linda Woods Reports:

This morning while trying to get the camera image to send to the webpage, I spotted two of the juveniles on the north-west corner of 120 Adelaide st.

While there, Tiago was rooting around in the nest tray area. I didn’t see Rhea Mae at this time. Hopefully she was in the area of the other juvenile.

!!! Sad News

July 14, 2008 - Toronto - King Street

Linda Woods Reports:

Sad news from King St. nest site, Gwenny, one of the female juveniles from the 18 King St. nest has died.

Toronto Animal Services had received a phone call from a King St. west address to report a dead bird. Toronto Animal Services had recognized the banded bird as a local Peregrine Falcon and immediately called the Foundation’s head office.

No other news on why this healthy bird died is available at this time. We will pass along any information as it comes available.

Anyone that may have seen any uncharacteristic peregrine activity in the King and Young St. recently, please email us or call the Canadian Peregrine Foundation.
On July 3rd I posted a photo of Gwenny with her sister Ely.

We welcome any reports of peregrine activity.

The saga continues…

July 11, 2008 - Hamilton - Sheraton Hotel

Sarah Washington Reports:

Well Miles has been doing very well back home. He has been interacting with his siblings and showing great flying skills. He is gaining more stamina in the air as well trying to keep up to his brothers.

All the chicks flying more to the east. We still see them around. We usually hear them first. Mom and Dad are still in the area and still protecting their territory.

Overall, we had a great season. Thank You to everyone!

!!! Back Home again…

July 08, 2008 - Hamilton - Sheraton Hotel

Sarah Washington Reports:

Well Miles finally came home last night. He was released on the roof of the Sheraton, close to the nest ledge. He took off right away flying but not before meeting up with Daddy who was not happy to see him! A small attack was seen on the chick. Well after Miles and the other 3 chicks chatted for a bit in Falcon world, Dad seems to have relaxed with him. I feel that now he sees all 4 together and they are happy he is as well. Miles is flying well and finally had a chance to eat today for about 40 minutes or longer! This is great news!

We shall keep you posted.

All is well

July 07, 2008 - Etobicoke - Sun Life Centre

CPF Volunteer Reports:

Our Etobiicoke Sun Life Centre Peregrines are doing really well! They spend most of the morning playing and chasing each other around the sky, moving from condo roof to condo roof. They’ve also been observed chasing pigeons! One poor pigeon found himself surrounded by all 3 of them and ran for his little life! Today I saw them up in air gliding right above the street which made me nervous as heck..but it was no problem for them. They still come back to the nest ledge when it gets too hot and they’re tired. It’s nice to see them all sacked out together and happy!

Reported by Kathy Majich.

The entire family is seen together

July 05, 2008 - Toronto - King Street

Linda Woods Reports:

Paul Marshman reports that all five family members of the King St. nest have been seen today in the area of the St. James spire.

All Three in View

July 05, 2008 - Toronto - Sheraton Centre

Linda Woods Reports:

A spot check and to reset the camera, I had all three juvies in view. One juvie was on the east mid section of 130 Adelaide and the other two were enjoying a mid day fly around the Sheraton Hotel area.

Staff of the Club Lounge have reported the juvies do fly around the windows on a regular basis and are very vocal.
Guests of the hotel, enquire as to what type of bird they are seeing, and are very pleased to know that they are viewing juvenile Peregrine Falcons.
