May 14, 2012 - Mississauga - Executive Centre
Tracy Simpson Reports:
Today was banding day at the MEC building and it was a great day had by all. This year, the unbanded resident pair hatched three of their four eggs a full 2 weeks earlier than other sites and it was a great place to kick off the 2012 peregrine season!! When we arrived, Sante Esposito and his fabulous staff at the Oxford Property Management Group had already set up tables, drinks and cookies in the lobby of MEC #1 in anticipation of the crowd that was expected to attend. The outstanding staff on security were helping to get things organized and arranged and were an excellent help. Very quickly the lobby began to fill with proud community foster parents of the falcon family at MEC. Mark Heaton of the Ministry of Natural Resources was getting set up to band the chicks and Skyreach, an incredible partner of the CPF and supporter of the peregrine falcons were preparing for the descent to the ledge.
The resident adults were already aware that something was up and were making their presence known as good parents do. They were very vocal about the event and were keeping an eye on the Skyreach and OMNR team on the roof. Shortly after the swing stage was lowered into place, the precious package of the first peregrine chicks of 2012 arrived at the banding table.
Please join us in welcoming…
Jennifer Female 28 Days Black 56 over Black X Red Tape
Janet Female 27 Days Black 57 over Black X Yellow Tape
Skyreach Female 26 Days Black 58 over Black X Green Tape
Handlers and voluteers at the table included Kelly of TD Friends of the Environment Foundation, CPF volunteers and Oxford Property building maintenance staff. Please check back soon as we will post a formal thank you to all that participated and joined us to celebrate this fabulous event. We have also, seeing as we had all females this year, applied the male name that we had in reserve to the unbanded resident male that has been on site since 2009. I invite everyone to join us in welcoming Sante as the new official name of the resident male!! It suits him very well as he is a most distinguished male.
More pictures and a big thank you post to come so check back soon!!

May 14, 2012 - Toronto - Canada Square Building - Yonge and Eglinton
Frank Butson Reports:
Canada Square report 20120514
I arrived at 3:51 pm and no-one was about. Fifteen minutes later Haven came circling in from the east over Eglinton Ave. She continued circling over RC, westward and then up Duplex Ave. She called three times and then flew west out of sight. That was it for 29 minutes. I missed Haven’s return to the nest so I don’t know if she brought in any food. I did see Stormin leave and fly to the south west corner of Canada Square where he sat under the railing one floor below the scrape level.
Four minutes later I saw Haven do that *fluttery/jump thing* to the far end of the scrape ledge and then back to the scrape area. Not sure what that is all about! Stormin in the meantime was just enjoying the sun. He faced into it then turned and sat with his back to it. After that he turned sideways on and stretched a wing, stretched a leg, had a scratch and sat some more before flying off 21 minutes later, somewhere up Yonge St.
An hour later he returned, sat on the ledge below the scrape level and three ledges over was there for all of two minutes then soared over Canada Square and again disappeared up Yonge St.

May 11, 2012 - Toronto - Canada Square Building - Yonge and Eglinton
Frank Butson Reports:
Canada Square report, Friday, 20120511
When I arrived there were no peregrines and there was no action. I settled down to wait. Six minutes later Haven had me flummoxed as she ran to the right on the ledge as far as the wall and then back again to the scrape area. Two minutes later she flew off the nest ledge to the middle *upright/wall* of Canada Square where she sat for minute before flying to the Rio-Can building and sat there for half a minute, four floors from the top. After that she flew back to the ledge and disappeared.
Half an hour later Stormin flew onto the rooftop of Rio-Can at the SW corner. Three minutes later he flew to the top level of the apartment building on Duplex Ave where he sat for a minute before flying up Duplex in front of the apartment building. He flew north and then turned back and then flew by the same building a couple of times before disappearing.
Haven popped into sight on the ledge again and was *busy* - sorry could not determine what she was doing, it did not look like feeding. She was away from the scrape area. Stormin in the meantime had flown south to 2180 Yonge but on the west side and then back up to the top of the concrete wall on Canada Square where he sat for a minute. He made another *fly by* of the apartment building then flew over Duplex Ave and west to disappear from view. He was gone for almost an hour. He returned to the nest ledge and was greeted by Haven (or greeted her) at the edge and she turned and disappeared from view.
Stormin flew to the southwest side of the Rio-Can building again, six floors down, then to the southeast side where he sat for a few minutes. Haven left the nest ledge and flew to the Rio-Can building then flew over Stormin and around the east side out of view. A minute later Stormin flew to Canada Square, onto the nest ledge and out of sight. Haven in the meantime had circled the RC building and was gone again. About five minutes later Haven did a *fly by* of the apartment building up Duplex Ave and then back down to the SE corner of the RC building. I missed the changeover but did see Stormin leave the nest ledge and fly to the RC building. I left and he was still sitting on the south face.

May 14, 2012 - Windsor - Ambassador Bridge
Dennis Patrick Reports:
We got to the Bridge site around 6:45, the chicks were just lazing around and then in comes Voltaire with dinner. It is so cool the way they all line up to be fed. Half an hour later Freddie flew in with more food. Before we left the babies were sleeping and Voltaire was eating her dinner. The babies are getting sooooo big. Voltaire was still in the nest tray and Freddie was sitting on the beam. There was some vocalizing. Maybe she was thanking Freddie for bringing in more food.
Looking forward to seeing them close up on Friday.

May 14, 2012 - Burlington - Lift Bridge
Sue McCreadie Reports:
Bill and I spent some time at the bridge today. Cirrus is very busy taking care of the little ones. She was either inside the box or standing on the outside corner. Mackenzie was just hanging around. Still can’t see the little white heads from the parking lot, but we should be able to soon.

Jan Chudy Reports:
These four little ones sure look ready to eat! Because the four hatched within 3 days of each other, I think there two females and two males. Linda and the MNR may prove me wrong!

May 11, 2012 - Scarborough - Yellow Pages
Tracy Simpson Reports:
On Friday, Marion and I made a trip up to the Yellow Pages building to check in on Linn and Rueben and their progress towards a hatch this year. When we arrived, neither adult was in sight and so off we went inside to speak to security. Paul Zisis, security for the building, was able to share the recent activity around the building as being relatively quiet and only one adult seen at a time. Marion and I then headed up to a higher elevation to check on the pair and struck it lucky as Linn had just taken off for a break and Rueben was out of the area. This allowed us to take a first glance at their progress and indeed the pair have three eggs that they are currently incubating. We will be watching for the change in behaviour that will signify a hatch. Check back soon as we hope to be announcing their first arrival!!

May 12, 2012 - Windsor - Ambassador Bridge
Dennis Patrick Reports:
What a pleasant surprise we got this afternoon. We got to the bridge and started to look at the nest site with our scope to see Voltaire feeding again and this time not just three chicks but FOUR (4). We were so pleasantly surprised we didn’t know what to do. Voltaire finished feeding them and then just hung around on the nest tray.
