!!! Ambassador Bridge Nest Sightings

May 01, 2016 - Windsor - Ambassador Bridge

Marilyn Weller Reports:

I spent a couple hours at the bridge this morning with the spotting scope. One adult in the nest the entire time except for a very brief flight out to a girder and then the return within a couple minutes. Given the size, I believe it was Voltaire. Victor was perched on the steeple for the first half hour of my viewing but then flew off and didn’t return while I was there.

I did see a very small patch of white just above the top of the nest tray so I think we may have at least one hatchling now. Voltaire moved around a fair bit while attending to her nest. The heavy humidity and foggy conditions made the viewing challenging today.

Mark stopped by and joined me in watching for a while. He reported that he saw the white tuft a day or two ago using his binoculars.

We’ll report more as we have new sightings here.

Islington Bloor Centre First Hatch

April 28, 2016 - Etobicoke - Sun Life Centre

Tracy Simpson Reports:

O’Connor was all over the place today and looking quite unsettled so we were pretty sure that the first hatch was on it’s way.  We had a brief glance of the young one, or ones, but that is all that she’s been willing to reveal so far.  Hopefully we can capture a better view soon.  Congratulations to the Islington Bloor Centre, your first babies have arrived.

Ambassador Bridge Nest Update

April 28, 2016 - Windsor - Ambassador Bridge

Marilyn Weller Reports:

So far, we seem to have eggs in the nest but no sign of little heads. A number of our volunteers have reported seeing nest-duty exchanges between Voltaire and Victor so it appears that there is incubation under way. We will advise when we begin to see signs of feedings and of course, hungry baby mouths poking out from the nest.

Two for MEC!

!!! Toronto King St

Although Erin and Stormin are active at the King St nest site, it doesn’t appear that eggs will be laid under camera view. Still checking the nesting area for possible alternative nest sites.

!!! Second Egg April 22 2016

April 22, 2016 - Toronto - Sheraton Centre

Linda Woods Reports:

Rhea Mae and Tiago have their second egg today.

The first attempt had the eggs outside the tray and both eggs failed.

!!! Nesting Activity Confirmed

April 17, 2016 - Toronto - Rogers Centre

Linda Woods Reports:

It appears that the Rogers’ Peregrines are in full incubation on the south east ledge again this season.  A hand off of the nest was witnessed today around 1pm., with very little activity to indicate what was about to happen. The male appears to be banded and the female unbanded  which is consistent with last years’ nesting pair.  No clue as to an expected hatch date.  Residents in the area will certainly help in keeping watch on the nest and report any news.

Rogers Centre Update

April 17, 2016 - Toronto - Rogers Centre

Bruce Massey Reports:

I went down to Rogers Centre yesterday to try and identify the resident adults and determine if nesting is on track.  I found one adult, the female, on the low RBC sign on the north side and was able to get a clear scope view of her legs.  She is still the unbanded female we nicknamed Renny (for the Renaissance Hotel). As I was only seeing one bird at this time and saw no sign of the male for the first hour I was there, I believed that they were incubating eggs somewhere.  I walked around Rogers Centre focusing my attention on the female and her activities when I heard ee-chupping high up on the condos to the west.  There I found the male and Renny joined him up there for a conversation.  She took off around to the southeast and he remained on the north side of the condo.  I didn’t see where the female went but I believe that she is on the east side incubating eggs in a yet to be determined location.  The male made several flights and at one point engaged a third bird.  This was a female and it got quite intense.  Renny joined the male in dealing with this intruder as she was too much for the resident male alone.  The intruding female was eventually escorted out by Renny and the resident male took up position on the crane at the south side of Rogers Centre.  I was able to get a partial band read of his solid black Ontario recovery band and it looks as though this is still Luke from the 2011 nest at Canada Square.  I will be back to determine exactly where they are nesting and fully confirm the identity of Luke.
