Congrats Quest & Canuck!!

May 22, 2023 - Toronto - Don Mills

Cathy Kerr Reports:

UPDATE DON MILLS :  And we have a hatch(es?)!!! Congrats to Quest and Canuck!! Yesterday Sally and I spent a fair bit of time watching and believed a hatch to be any time - though we had an intruder, just to make things a bit dramatic! So I was back today and timed it perfectly as Quest brought food to the nest box, Canuck and Quest had a cute moment checking out the kids then it was Quest’s show! She proceeded to feed and echup sweetly to her chick(s). As I cannot see into the nest box, it’s a guess at this time how many. As she took a bit of time to feed, I’m hoping at least 2. I will be checking throughout the week to get a shot of those little bobble heads to show.

May 18/23 Hamilton Banding Day

May 18, 2023 - Hamilton - Sheraton Hotel

Marion Nash Reports:

Great day to band the chicks. All 4 chicks were in good health no signs of Avian Flu or any other illness. there were 3 boys and 1 girl.
The Hamilton team chose names of Hamilton communities for their chicks the female named Delta immediately got the nickname of Delta Dawn;)

There were 2 new climbers this year Jesse and Ryan who did a great job extracting the chicks for their first banding day climb and extraction 2 very keen and brave lads. A big thank you to both of them.

The Hamilton Fledgwatch team as always had everything ready for an efficient, safe and successful banding and we are so grateful to them for continuing to support the banding of Hamilton’s Peregrine chicks a job well done.

Thanks goes out to the Hamilton Sheraton Hotel for being such a wonderful and supportive host!

We wish the Fledwatchers the best of luck for 2023.

Here are the names and weights of each chick.

Kirkendall male 592 grams
Gibson male 570 grams
Delta female 753 grams
Stipley 577 grams.

The chicks were younger at banding this year 18 and 19 days old so the weights were lighter than they would have been at the usual age of banding in Hamilton of 21 to 23 days.

a tale of two Tiercels

May 16, 2023 - Greater Toronto - Private Residential 1

Marion Nash Reports:

Aria has yet another suitor or perhaps new mate. Groucho 07 over AW hatched banded in 2022 again at Canada Square and Equinox’s brother. There was a fight seen between 2 peregrines on Sunday and now Groucho is at the nest helping feed and brood the young not sure what happened to Equinox or if he will be back to claim his family or if it his could be they are Groucho’s chicks??? A big thank you to the photographer and resident of the building for the photos and report.

All eggs gone

May 16, 2023 - Toronto - Canada Square Building - Yonge and Eglinton

Marion Nash Reports:

for some reason after laying 3 eggs 2 went missing and finally the 3rd. Perhaps they were not fertile and Haven removed them. Hopefully she will try again. Haven is about 18 years old so perhaps we will see some years of low or no chicks produced. Security is keeping an eye on the nest to see if she re-clutches.

First Hatch Today May 12th.

May 12, 2023 - Etobicoke - William Osler

Marion Nash Reports:

Thanks to Scott from the hospital who caught the first hatch on video. Banding date coming up soon. Full video posted on or Facebook page.
