!!! Care has fledged & was rescued !!!
June 09, 2021 - Kitchener - CTV-Bell Media Tower
Lisa Reh Reports:
At 10:30 Kim was on the watch and observed that all four juveniles were in the left hand corner of the East side of St. Mary’s Hospital. Earlier the adult was preparing food around the fifth and sixth window from the right. Food was dropped with the young at 8:45 and again about 9:45. One or two of the young made a trip across the building. Fresh food was dropped off at about 10:25.
At 3:15, Wendy was on the watch and reported that Care had fledged and flew to the ground, and landed gently and uninjured. Rudy was there for the rescue, assessed the fledgling and made arrangements to release Care from the hospital rooftop. David was also on the watch for the first flight and reported at 4:15 that after the release, Care was on the roof, (right side/north corner), one level up from the ledge, sitting quietly on the NW side close to the brick wall.
Care flew again at around 4:30 and David was on his own searching for the fledgling! Fraser arrived around 5:00 and spotted Care on a rooftop house on the corner of Pleasant Ave & Queen’s Boulevard. At 6:45, Care flew off again and landed on a narrow window ledge opposite that corner. The other 3 chicks were still on the ledge on the east side. Martha and Paul were on the watch in the evening and all chicks were accounted for. Carla and I joined up with them too and at 9:00 we left and Care was still on the window ledge, let’s hope he stays put for the night!
Kitchener chicks are ready to go!
June 08, 2021 - Kitchener - CTV-Bell Media Tower
Lisa Reh Reports:
The fledge watch is well under way and started on June 5th. Both adults are not banded and we presume that Mystery found a new male, but there’s no way of being certain.
The chicks have a good practise runway all along the hospital windows out front on the east side underneath the cross. You can find more details on the banding on the St. Mary’s hospital site here:

Update from Beachville
June 09, 2021 - International, National and Local News
Marion Nash Reports:
Chris Martin reports from Beachville that one of his staff just located a peregrine hatchling on the roof top of one of the buildings in the middle of the plant! He also reports that he saw one of the resident adults (a banded adult) but was unable to get the band number. It is obvious that the Beachville nest site is still in fact very active and has produced this season, but sadly the resident pair did not use the nest box this year??
Unfortunately , given the advanced age of the hatchling and its mobility, and the fact that we simply can’t scramble fast enough with our current man power shortages with all of the ongoing fledge watches, we will not be able to band this hatchling this season.
But the good news,, the Beachville site is still active and productive! Time will tell as we will endeavour to identify the adults on site,,,,, stay tuned…..
Update May 9th 2021
June 09, 2021 - Etobicoke - Sun Life Centre
Marion Nash Reports:
Lucie has been checking on the chicks daily for the last week. The chicks are getting ready perhaps a fledge in the next couple days.
!!! Banding day at Don Mills and Eglinton
June 09, 2021 - Toronto - Don Mills and Eglinton - Amexon
Marion Nash Reports:
It was raining just before the banding and the chicks were a bit wet and they had just been fed so the crops were just bulging full so the weight of the chicks are a bit over the real weight.
It was very hot by the time John Miller started the climb over the edge and repel down to the nest and Mom and Dad were on high alert stooping and yelling at him. John was able to quickly catch up the chicks and inside the building they were quickly banded and returned before both john and mom and dad got too over heated darn this climate change makes things a challenge sometimes.
2 chicks this year a girl and a boy.
the Boy named Logan weighed in at whopping 720 grams his band number is C over 19 and has blue tape on his silver band. The girl Flynn was a 835 grams a good weight for a girl her band is 05 over AB with red tape on her silver band. they are about 23 and 25 days old today.
Day 5 Fledge watch!
June 08, 2021 - Toronto - Don Mills
Cathy Kerr Reports:
When I arrived this morning, I found Nico still on the roof but Bluey had joined his sister on the nest ledge! So he has officially fledged! Quest came in with a nice package and stuffed Bluey. Sydney wasn’t interested so I believe she was fed earlier. It was a damp, muggy day, not good for flying unfortunately. And it kept raining on and off all morning. Quest flew up and sat with Nico during the hardest rain. Sally joined me in the afternoon. We watched a ‘hangry’ Nico go back and forth on the roof then nap, repeat. Sydney and Bluey did some lovely beaking, flapping, up on the box etc but no further flying by the time I had to leave. Mark, Marion and Bob joined us before then and we all got to see Nico finally get fed, by Mom.
