DON MILLS UPDATE :Quest and Mystery’s family is growing fast! I dropped by this morning to check on them… Looking good! Even caught a feeding… Fledge watch starts Friday!
This year we have 2 girls and 1 boy all very healthy weights and 1 as feisty as her mom Haven. Although it was not a public banding and we could not invite folks to attend because of covid there was nonetheless much to do to prepare for banding here. Thanks go out to Mark Heaton and Eva Bobak for banding the chicks and to Jodie from Security for sending me updated photos of the nest from egg-laying to hatch and development of the chicks so I could properly determine the optimum banding date and for setting up everything we would need to get the job done. I also want to thank the guys from Solar Window Washing for their expertise in extracting the chicks from the ledge while dealing with Haven the adult female who is very aggressive in protecting her chicks and nest without them bandings could not happen here and lastly but not least Oxford Properties Group for their continued stewardship as nest host.
Everything went very well and we are looking forward to the start of the fledge watch soon!
Here is the band information
1 male 645 grams band C over 26 with blue tape on the silver band named Nathan
1 female 880 grams band 03 over AB Red tape on the silver band named Ayala
1 female 885 grams band 04 over AB yellow tape on the silver band named Coco
date of banding May 28th 2021
Some photos of the baby. Because there is only one chick we will not be banding this year. This will be one spoiled chick who gets all the attention and food!
More photos from Roger Leekam of today’s banding. Darcey snatched Mark’s hat and threw it down on the lower mezinine.
One girl and one boy for Darcy and Lucky.
The first banded was the boy weighing in at 630 grams his band is C over 17 with blue tape on the solver band His name is Dart.
The Second banded the girl was 760 grams her band is 02 over AB with Red tape on the silver band Her name is Tornado.
Both chicks checked out healthy and were feisty like their mom who gave the crew on the swing stage a trouncing this year and who stole Mark Nash’s hat and threw it on the lower mezzanine.
Thanks go out to Frieda Lauw from CBRE Tenant Engagement Service for setting up the banding and for running the name the chick contest. There were so many great names submitted so thanks to everyone who sent in their choices.
We would also like to thank Sky Reach’s swing stage crew Jay and Dave for the ride up to the nest and for their bravery in facing the wrath of Darcey
More photos to come.
Fledge watch will start in about 2 weeks so stay tuned for updates and more photos.
