May 16th Hamilton Sheraton Hotel Banding

May 16, 2020 - Hamilton - Sheraton Hotel

Marion Nash Reports:

CPF volunteers Anne Yagi and Mark Nash banded 2 healthy chicks at the Hamilton Sheraton Hotel today. Thanks to the Hotel for all their help and assistance and the Hamilton Peregrine Project team for getting everything set up and ready for us. Our long time volunteer climber John Miller again did the extraction of the chicks and everyone was very appreciative of his bravery and expertise.

There was one female and one male their names and band information is listed below. The names were given by the Hamilton Community Peregrine Project

Male-named Griffin weighed 517 grams at 18 days old his Canadian black band is 15 over W
Female- named Whitehern weighed 720 grams at 19 days old her Canadian black number is Z47

There are very few volunteers to help with the fledge watch this year so if anyone living in the Hamilton area is interested in helping out please log onto our volunteer page and fill out a volunteer form and someone from the Hamilton team will be in contact with you.

On our way to the Hamilton Sheraton Banding Mark and I checked the Burlington Lift Bridge nest and could see one chick being fed in the est there may be 2 but we could not get close enough for a very good photo. We did see both adults attending.

Yellow Pages Update May 16th

May 17, 2020 - Scarborough - Yellow Pages

Marion Nash Reports:

Mark checked on Lyn today and found 3 eggs still on the nest no hatch. He also has not seen a male on site this spring at all and Lyn was not there today and did not fly in to challenge him on the roof. Looks like the nest has failed again this year. It may be that she has no mate this year and the eggs were not fertile. We will pop in to check on her again in a few days.

Thank you

Kitchener fledge watcher report

May 13, 2020 - Kitchener - CTV-Bell Media Tower

Marion Nash Reports:

Hi everyone;

Hope you are enjoying this sunny day. I am just here at the viewing parking lot. Pretty quiet around the nest box but one of the birds, maybe Enigma, was sitting on the tower with the drum when I arrived, preening, and then treated me to a little aerial display. Flew in circles, getting higher and higher until out of sight.

!!! 2 eggs of 4 hatched at Oshawa Lakeridge Hospital

May 13, 2020 - Oshawa - Lakeridge Hospital

Marion Nash Reports:

Looks like the chicks are about a week old. due to the pandemic this is the first chance staff have had to check the nest camera image to look for eggs or hatches. We so much appreciate the staff at Lakeridge not only for their falcon support and this report but also for being there on the front line fighting to save lives our thanks go out to everyone at Lakeridge!

As mentioned earlier due to COVID-19 we will not be banding chicks at any of the hospital sites or any site where swing stage access is needed and safe distance can’t be maintained but we are on call to rescue chicks and will be checking on the chicks and conducting fledge watches to the best of our ability.
