!!! Report from Hamilton Peregrine Project. 2 Hatched!

April 29, 2020 - Hamilton - Sheraton Hotel

Marion Nash Reports:

Tuesday, April 28, 2020 - Shortly after 8am this morning, Lily left the nest, and as Ossie came in to replace her, a beautiful white head poked up above the edge of the ledge (first photo). A few minutes later Lily returned with the first meal, and during feeding it became obvious that she was feeding a second chick. At 12:30, more food was brought to the nest, and we got a clear look at both chicks (second photo). Judging by the dry white down on the chicks, it seems likely that the first hatching occurred sometime overnight. Will there be more? With this year’s brooding conditions having been optimal, we can’t see why not. Hatching can occur over a span of several days. So we will be watching feedings closely, to see how many heads poke out in the days to come!

CPF and the Hamilton Peregrine Project are trying to work out a date to band the chicks hopefully May 16th watch for updates.

Snap shots from the Web cam.

More Photos from Beachville

April 29, 2020 - International, National and Local News

Marion Nash Reports:

Garry took some more shots of Virginia and Joe at Beachville yesterday April 28th and pointed out a small bald patch on her chest. There does not seem to be any skin damage and she looks otherwise healthy, so I have asked him just to watch how she flies and lands or if she seems to pay any special attention to that spot when preening but I think she looks ok. The first shot is of Joe.

!!! Looking forward to more chicks for Beachville

April 26, 2020 - International, National and Local News

Marion Nash Reports:

I received an e-mail on from photographer Garry Cowdroy who took some great shots of the Peregrine adults at Carmeuse Lime and Stone Beachville. He has been keeping an eye on the site for me and believes they are now on eggs.
Looking froward to another successful hatch and hope we can work out a banding of the chicks again this year.
Thanks for the great observations and wonderful photos Garry keep them coming.

UPDATE: DON MILLS/OLD HARLEQUIN:

April 26, 2020 - Toronto - Don Mills

Marion Nash Reports:

Sally and I have been checking in on our family here for the past week as Quest and Mystery Guy are expecting any day! For the most part, its been a pretty quiet watch but, during these difficult times, it makes me feel well, normal. And gives me the uplift I need to know that life goes on and all really will be ok again. Anyways…spent quite a bit of the day there yesterday, it was a beautiful day , so why not? Bob stopped by, great to see him! Sally came, always great to see her :). I got some great shots of Mystery Guy, Quest for the most part was hunkered down. I was just getting ready to leave when Dad came in for the shift change and I grabbed my camera up and got a so so pic of her heading out of the nest box! She was on a mission..grabbed the food from Dad and was gone. Dad settled in for his turn.

Today was kinda yucky, rain and all, but I decided to take a quick late afternoon trip over to check them out. And I think it was worth it. Mom of course was in the box but this time when Dad came, she would not budge. He stayed for a few minutes as if to say–are you sure?? Then he flew off to hang out two windows over and there he stayed. I have been watching them all week and this was the first time she did not do an exchange….hmmmm :) I also saw Quest seem to pick something up and seem to eat it…maybe the shell??? I will keep dropping by until I see a feeding to be sure. And I am sure Sally will join me(socially distancing of course) next weekend to hopefully get some pics of some bobbleheads!!!

Stay tuned…stay safe

Cathy
