Marion Nash Reports:

I’ve been treated to some amazing aerial acrobatics from my desk I feel so lucky to sit where I do!

Around 1pm yesterday I got a call that there was a distinct imprint of a bird on the 8th floor boardroom. Ran down and couldn’t see anything in the “danger zone” (upper east side windows) so walked around the building then around the area a bit incase it had regained flight but come down somewhere. Ended up spotting them all on 240 building. Phew! Must have been a fledge bump after the window washers had done their work pre-banding (can’t help but wonder if it was Harper’s because he could have come down onto that ledge above the loading dock after that? Who knows but thankfully it wasn’t a bad hit. I want to mention this to our property manager that they pick the worst time of year to wash the windows.

What I did discover on my check was a fluffy little bird in the middle of the flower bed at the front of our building. I called FLAP for advice, emailed them a photo and they confirmed it wasn’t an adult recovering from a window hit (my worry) but a fledged red-breasted nuthatch. Records show they nest in this area, so I was OK to leave him there it was very quiet out front and the parents were no doubt nearby. So I hope it’s OK wherever he/she is now! Attaching my iphone pic (forgive the poor quality).
