Dropped in twice today at the nest! All are good. Zee is flying pretty good-she was in the air having a great flight but maybe was up there too long and tried for the Icici roof, missed but instead of batting she pushed off instead and flew back to the top floor of Debeers. Not the prettiest but she did well to get out of trouble! Then I saw some great flying by Cooper who ended up chasing Mom off her perch and landed quite nicely! ! So all in all a good day-love to see the improvement! What a great fledge we have had!!

She gave us a scare but she is great! First she flew to the top of the Goodlife garage. Didn’t stay long. Then around the Debeers building to bat a bit on Icici then off to sit on the solar panels. Then she slipped down and was gone . I spied her on top ledge of Debeers!! YAY! Amazing! Now to work on her landings lol. Thanks to Irma for joining me for a couple of hours!! The extra eyes so helped!! Now will she stay put thru the rain?? No! She made it to the roof!!!! She joined her brothers!! Not a bad landing either!!!
What do newly fledged peregrine’s do in a downpour? Why, like any kid, they play in it!!! They were flapping those wings and dancing along the rooftop!! Almost gave me a heart attack but they loved it lol. Mac was on the N and stayed nice and still but his brother and sister danced up a storm! Oh my. Rain had slowed when I left and they had settled down. I will pop in and see them tonight. Hope they are wrong about the weather!
So not wrong about the weather!! Popped in to check on our family after that lovely storm! All safe. Mac doing his usual lovely flying! Zee is down for the night on the top floor under the Debeer sign. And little Cooper had chosen the top floor on the Icici building facing Debeers! Not sure where Mac will end up sleeping but I know he will be just fine!
I attached some pictures of our pretty girl

Well the day was good-babies all on roof most of day. Awesome flying by Mac, good flying by Cooper and Zee just hung out…..until 7:45 when she finally flew! Only to bat on Icici then over toDebeers where she did the “bat” and then clung to the wall, then back to a short bat on Icici over to Debeers where Mac tried to help but she lit off over to land on top of the short building next door! 1 hour later she tried again. Made it to Icici about 8 floors up only to bat again! ! Back to Debeers..nope back to land 2nd level Icici. And there I left her at 945. I will be back at 530 am. Will she gain altitude or will she come down? I will let you know

June 17th - 2014
Sorry for the delays in getting these banding photos posted as we have been running all over the province involved in peregrine bandings and with ongoing fledge watches at 7 different nest sites, its not given us any time to get in front of a computer and an internet connection. We’re now all in the streets on the fledge watches doing some very long hours dawn to dusk.
Oh my goodness, with 14 peregrine bandings completed in less than three weeks all over southern Ontario and some 1700 plus photos to edit, downsize and organize and then get posted to the many nest site nest web pages, its been a very hectic time.
So, here are some of the Windsor banding photos taken from nest ledge during the extraction of the hatchlings for banding.
Enjoy.

June 17th - 2014
Day two on the fledge watch.
For the most parts, I’m told that the large part of the day was a typical day on the fledge watch for the volunteers, much like watching paint dry. But, things can change very quickly as we all know, and that’s just what happened. With Environment Canada issuing severe thunderstorm warnings, heavy rain warnings with risk of flooding, high winds and risk of tornados, things were about to change for most of Ontario very very quickly!
Well, the weather man got it bang-on right this time, as that’s just what happened in Toronto (and many other parts of Ontario)! Just after 5 pm, the storm cells barrelled in and swept through southern Ontario.
With calls streaming in on my cell phone from Rudy in Kitchener Ontario on the Kitchener Waterloo peregrine fledge watch to Tracy out in Etobicoke at the Bloor & Islington peregrine fledge watch to Helena, Donna and Bob out at the Duncan Mills fledge watch, the severe weather caused all kinds of problems for both watchers and fledglings!!
The high winds swept in with torrential rain and heavy downpours that added to the challenges as two of the young Duncan Mills hatchlings ended up coming off the nest ledge!
Thank goodness to the quick response of the Duncan Mills fledge watch team as Little Cosmo - (yellow tape) was influenced by the severe weather and ended up on the ground out in front of the nest ledge at the base of the nest building moments before the torrential rain started.
A second sibling, little Hayes was also influenced by the gusty high winds and also ended up out of the nest ledge. It managed to grab hold of the concrete wall face and luckily ended up on a ledge directly below the nest ledge. * see photo attached.
Ping, one of the new fledge watchers jumped into action along with several other members of the fledge watch team managed to scoop up little Cosmo before he even realized what had happened! Bob later transferred him to a larger rescue carrier for safe keeping until I arrived on site to examine him and assess the situation.
As quick as the extreme weather moved in, it departed just a quickly, but only after leaving the GTA battered with downed trees, power outages, damaged buildings and cars as a result of blowing mail boxes and other debris having been blown around and flooding all over the city. By 7:00pm, the bad weather was all over (at least for us), and the dark clouds were quickly replaced with white fluffy clouds and much clearer skies.
Cosmo was carefully examined to ensure that he hadn’t suffered any injuries or trauma as a result of his premature departure and fall from the nest ledge, * see photos attached.
Based on the much improved weather conditions, clearing skies and his very healthy condition, I made the decision to get him back to the upper roof top of the nest building and to his parents care before darkness.
Cosmo was successfully released back to the nest building roof top without incident by 8pm. The release was supervised by Quest - (his mom) who was quick to fly in to voice her opinion of my presence on the rooftop during Cosmo’s release. By 9:30pm as darkness closed in, all three hatchlings were in view and knowing that little Cosmo was on the lower upper roof elevation surrounded by a four feet retaining wall, all was well and we closed the fledge watch down for the evening.
A huge thank you to the Berkley building management group and security for both assisting and facilitating the rescue and release this evening!!
Stay tuned, as its only just begun…………

Lisa Reh Reports:
June 17 – At 9:00 a.m. Merry flew to the parapet left from the nest box. He started walking along the parapet running horizontal to Union Street towards Park Street. He ended up on the parapet, 2nd from the right facing Park Street. One of the adults was perched on the north corner of the tower.
At approximately 11:15, Merry was engaged in acrobatics with one of the parents and hit the Union Street windows really hard at the 9th floor level! Luckily, Wendy was alerted and called Rudy. While waiting for Rudy, Wendy and I went to the 5th floor roof with Security to look for Merry. Luckily we found him alive and walking around in a corner of the 5th floor. We stayed out of his sight to try and keep him calm and waited for Rudy to arrive to assess the situation. When Rudy arrived, he decided that we should attempt to catch him to make sure he wasn’t injured. Towel in hand, Rudy approached Merry slowly and tried to put the towel over him but he would have none of it. He flew to the next level of the roof and then flew towards Park and Union at about the 5th floor level and then we lost sight of him. We looked over the edges of all the sides of the roof that we could but Merry was nowhere to be seen. Wendy and Rudy then went to the ground to search for Merry, while I went up to the 10th floor to see if I could see him down on the 5th floor levels. I finally spotted him on the corner of King and Union on the 5th floor roof. He was there for the rest of the afternoon, with various members of the team checking up on him. He took little walks back and forth along the King Street side and would sometimes disappear from sight. At one point, he was trying to fly up towards the nest box and there was much squawking going on. He was still on the same part of the roof at 5:30 amid tornado warnings in the area.
At 7:30, Rudy was back on the watch. I joined him at 8:30 and we went to look for Merry. We found him still on the 5th floor level but now on the other side of the entrance facing King Street. Rudy decided he would be safe there for the rest of the night. Walking out the Union Street entrance, I heard a robin making a big fuss. I looked to my left and up and there was a 2nd fledgling on one of the peaks of the old building!! A robin and starling were making a fuss about his presence. Rudy stayed on the ground, while I went back inside to see if I could id him but the light was getting too dark and he wouldn’t show his bands. Most likely it is Pippin! Who knows how his flight was down to that level went. The weather between 5:30 and 7:30 was extremely volatile with great big gusts of winds and a few short down pours. Rudy witnessed some spectacular flights by Caster, banking up towards the building and riding the wind high above the building. The 2 girls were on the nest box watching their brothers.

Lisa Reh Reports:
June 16 - Tony arrived at the site at 5:45 a.m. One of the adults brought breakfast at 6:00. It rained quite hard at times , but it didn’t seem to bother the babies, they were having a shower. Rudy joined Tony just after 6:00 and they watched both adults leave at 7:15. They confirmed that all 4 babies were in the nest box at that time.
Fraser and Sandy took up the watch from 7:35 to 9:05 and all 4 were still in the nest box. There wasn’t much action at that time. Merry (white) and Helia (red) were the most visible and active at that time.
Dale reported at 3:30 that all four young were either in the next box or on the ledge stretching their wings. There was a fair bit of fluff that could be natal down as there are no poplars in the immediate area. At 4:20, one of the adults swooped in and left a package in the nest box, amid a fair bit of squawking. The juvenile on the ledge made a move for the nest box. One of the adults flew to the King Street sign shortly after. Dale left just before 5:00 and all four young were on the edge of the nest box or the roof ledge waiting for supper.
Many showed up for the evening watch at 7:00 and ended shortly after 9:00 with all safe and accounted for.

Linda Woods Reports:
I arrived on sight and had no juvies in view at first. When they did make an appearance I could only see three from street level. Frequent camera checks were only indicating three in view as well. Rhea Mae and Tiago have been seen on an adjacent building, but really not giving me clues if a juvie had fledged.
Wicked storm blew through the downtown area around 7p.m. After the storm had past I did a check of the area and still only having three juvies on webcam. Rhea Mae and Tiago were seen briefly and then flew out sight. Not sure if we had a fledge at sometime. The adults were not giving any indication of such and did not see them flying around in the area. Some vocalization and flapping from the juvies, but pretty much the same as it has been past few evenings.

Cathy Kerr Reports:
Hey Cathy, just a summary of our shift on Sunday .. cheers, Lucie.
Richard and I arrived around 3:00 to relieve Irma. Mac and Cooper were on the roof looking down on Zee who was still in the nest. It wasn’t long until both boys jumped back into nest too! Cooper looked content to remain there (maybe because his flight last night was accidental). He didn’t seem to be in any rush whatsoever to leave. Mac and Zee did a lot of beak kissing (I was watching through the scope and it was so gosh darn cute). It was almost as though Mac was trying to convince her to fly. He decided to take off and flew to ICICI and landed doing a beautiful little ‘j’.
We saw a parent drop off food for Mac on the ICICI building. It was a whole bird and Mac looked like he didn’t know what to do with this. With no one to help him, eventually he started plucking and it looks like he got it.
Mac was doing a lot of beautiful flying and towards the end of the evening, he even landed on the ’s’ on the DeBeers building. He was on the top of the ’s’ and Chester was on the bottom. He even tried to land on the ‘D’ (too slippery), but eventually settled on the second ‘e’, and that’s where we left him.

Harry Crawford Reports:
Morning Shift: No change from yesterday. There was even less
flapping. Rhea Mae spent the morning on the north west corner of 130
Adelaide W, while Tiago spent a fair amount of time on the north
east corner. There were no attempts seen of the adults trying to
get the chicks to fly. Maybe Bruce will have some luck this
afternoon.
