CPF Postmaster Reports:
April 2012
A big thank you to Jacquie and Mike for getting an ID on their newest peregrine family,, as we have been able to confrim after checking our database that their new resident adult female is non other than “Gleig”, a young peregrine produced in 2009 at the Hamilton Sheraton Hotel nest site. Gleig was banded on June 2nd in 2009 at approx. 28 days old, weighing in at 1049 grams.
Jacquie writes:
It seems our non-banded Peregrine pair at the Buffalo Central Terminal has been replaced with a banded pair this year. Yesterday Mike and I went up to the nest box to check for eggs. There were no eggs in the scrape yet (our only nest without any eggs), but we were able to get a clear view of the female’s leg bands when she landed on the ledge of the box. (I am assuming it is the female, because she was rather large.) She had a silver USFWS band on the right leg and Black/Black 33/X on the left. She is an adult bird, without any lingering brown plumage that we could see.
Happy Peregrine season!

Great News!!
Today, Jenn and I spent time at yellow pages and we witnessed nest food transfer at 5:30 pm tonight. She is hard on eggs on last years nest site. She is only a day or 2 in because Thurs I saw her bopping around in 1st nest site. Now its just a matter of how many. Start the countdown to hatching!

April 08, 2012 - Burlington - Lift Bridge
Sue McCreadie Reports:
Since the last report, it has been pretty quiet around the Lift Bridge. Full incubation is underway. We have been there for a couple of hours every day. The most interesting thing we have observed is that Mackenzie, has almost always been on the eggs. Yesterday when we arrived Mackenzie was in the box and Cirrus flew in from somewhere under the Skyway. She had a full crop so she had been off enjoying a meal. She flew to the nest box and a great long conversation took place. She won the argument I guess because Mackenzie, reluctantly, got off the eggs and flew to the Hamilton Tower. Within a few seconds Cirrus disappeared inside the box and that was the end of the activity. We packed up and headed for home.

Please don’t feel you have to be a bird expert to report whatever wonderful observation of their activity you see.

April 08, 2012 - Toronto - Don Mills
Frank Butson Reports:
On April 7th, Quest laid her 4th egg. Both she and Kendal have been seen incubating, which is typical of Peregrine Falcons. The pair will incubate for about a month, so watch for a 2nd week of May hatch.

April 06, 2012 - Toronto - King Street
Linda Woods Reports:
Walking past 18 King St this afternoon, I just happen to look up and see a shift change at 2:25p.m. The female flew off and came to rest on the south side of Dundee Place.
The resident peregrines are there and incubating. Local residents are saying that they are not seeing much activity from the pair recently, probably due to the spring time maintenance occurring on the roof area of the adjacent buildings.

As at March 31, Niagara Gorge nest alumni from 2008,Yankee is again at his nest at University of Buffalo with his mate BB. The pair has 4 eggs. Yankee has produced 7 young in his history at UB so far. Great to hear he is doing well.
At the Niagara Gorge nest site, there is a pair of Peregrines in and out frequently but thus far no eggs have been observed.
Thanks to local Peregrine enthusiast Vicki (~Sage~) Kadow for this information.
