CPF Postmaster Reports:
With a big than you to Sandy for sending in these interesting photo’s of there unexpected diner guest. The raptor dropped in for diner but forgot to knock first giving the Schadewald family time to open the window.
The hawk literally flew into a window and knocked himself out. This picture was taken from the room where it recovered before being let back loose.
Pictures taken by Sandra in San Mateo County CA, USA on May 28, 2009.
Thank your for sharing these great photos. Very glad to hear that the bird recovered and was successfully released back to the wild.

CPF Postmaster Reports:
We have just received a call from the Etobicoke SPCA that they responded to a call of an injured peregrine with a broken wing. After rescuing and retrieving the bird, and many calls trying to find medical assistance for a qualified avian vet, they were finally let the Canadian Peregrine Foundation. While this is no surprise to us, given that very few vets here in Toronto and surrounding area can deal with wildlife - (let alone avian wildlife), we were glad that they found us. With a huge thank you to Jerry for his determination and persistence in finding us, as his initial efforts had him being transferred from one call to another with absolutely no success. We are pleased that we could help getting both he and the injured peregrine to proper medical assistance before the bird ended up being just another dead statistic . The injured peregrine was transferred to the Owl foundation, one of the only raptor rehabilitators in the area with large enough facilities and the expertise to deal with a raptor of this size.

Mark Nash Reports:
I delighted to say that the MEC web camera image is finally up and running, and while the image is a little smaller with the new software, we have been able to increase the refresh rate on both the camera up load image and the CPF web site refresh rate. You can now see a 10 second refresh rate on both. In addition to working on a image larger, we are also working on live streaming. Stay tuned….
As of my departure this afternoon, the three hatchlings were very active and growing quickly. Banding is scheduled for Friday June 5th at 10:30am. Hope to see you all there.

- Etobicoke - William Osler
Bruce Massey Reports:
As I said I would, I returned to William Osler early this morning and arrived there around 0700 Hrs. I found the Female over on the Hydro Tower, she was quite full as her crop showed. She was in the Tower for about 30 minutes and then flew over to the Nest Ledge. I went over to view the Nest through the peephole, and today I was able to see 3 Eggs, which is all that is left. I am informed by Mark Nash that the “Guesstimation” on when the Birds went into “Hard Incubation” is a little fuzzy, but the Incuabation Time is getting critical. Hopefully in the next few days there is a hatch, otherwise the Eggs present are infertile. I also saw the Male in the 2nd Hour and he was quite Territorial and chased off 2 Gulls that got too close.

Kathy Reports:
Three brown and black juveniles this morning hanging out on the nestbox doing nothing but napping and flapping. Saw a very brief feeding of one of the young males just before noon but other than that no food has been delivered that I witnessed. Dad has been standing right on the ledge now keeping watch and Angel is above the on the rooftop. They are 35 days old today and males tend to fledge earlier than the females so perhaps by week’s end we may have a flier or two…

May 31, 2009 - Toronto - King Street
CPF Postmaster Reports:
Hi,
We live in the neighbourhood and have been keeping tabs on the King Street falcons. All 4 hatchlings are still there and have grown. They tend to camp underneath the camera (avoiding the paparazzi), but they were within view this morning and later behind the pillar. The mother was even brooding the 5th egg that didn’t hatch. Haven’t see the dad around in a while.
Cheers,
Ranka & Chris
