Soon, very soon

May 04, 2008 - Toronto - King Street

Linda Woods Reports:

Back to King St.nest around 10:30 this morning to watch the live monitor. I observed the female to be very restless, constantly up and down, turning, shuffling the eggs. As the shade eventually made it’s way to the ledge, I am very sure we will have a hatch today. I can’t be sure as the image became too dark around 10:45, but I think I might have seen egg shell fragments. Difficult to determine, will have to check late this afternoon when the light is better on the ledge.

Incubation continues

May 03, 2008 - Toronto - Sheraton Centre

Linda Woods Reports:

This morning I made my way up to the Sheraton to check on Rhea Mae. She appeared to be sleeping and continues to incubate her eggs. Tiago was not in view at this time. Daily checks and frequent visits will continue as we expect a hatch within the week or so. It will be hard to calculate a hatch date, as the days between the first egg and second egg were laid far apart.
Keep Watching.

Sunny day last week

Fog, rain and more fog

May 03, 2008 - Toronto - Four Seasons

Harry Crawford Reports:

There were very few opportunities to view the peregrines today because of the fog and rain. Hunter was on the south-west corner of 77 Bloor West at 8:18am. He moved to the south-west corner of the CIBC building at 8:27am and eventually to the east CIBC antenna at 9am before disappearing from view.

Holding tight

May 03, 2008 - Toronto - King Street

Linda Woods Reports:

As I was rebooting the King St camera late this afternoon, I was able to see a live image of the activity on the nest ledge. The adult peregrine was tight on the nest. I waited until she got up and saw at least three eggs intact, the fourth egg was not in view. She quickly set back down as it was pouring rain with strong winds.

Both off the nest

May 02, 2008 - Toronto - Four Seasons

Harry Crawford Reports:

When I got home at 1:32pm, Ranger was on the south-west corner of 77 Bloor West. At 2:03pm, she was circling above the building with a male, likely Hunter, and both flew off towards Yorkville. At 2:55pm, a male and female were on the west side of the CIBC building. The light wasn’t great so I couldn’t tell if the female was Ranger. They were both gone by 6pm.

Peregrine Chase

May 01, 2008 - Toronto - Sheraton Centre

CPF Volunteer Reports:

At 1:10 I got a frantic call from my friend and falcon watcher Wendy on the east side of my floor. Two falcons were chasing each other and flying around between FCP and Scotia Plaza. Web cams confirmed both sites still incubating. I rushed over to her office and watched one bird fly for some time south of Scotia Plaza. After about five minutes a second bird came in from the west and they vanished out of my sight east of Scotia Plaza. Now, Wendy has been watching the birds for a few years too and the interesting thing she said was - one of them wobbles a lot and made me think of Spike!!!

Peregrine Display

April 30, 2008 - Toronto - Sheraton Centre

CPF Volunteer Reports:

I shall try to keep this report as unemotional as possible. At 4:30 I was on a phone call when my neighbor came running it pointing to the sky. I looked but could not see anything and carried on with my call. A few moments later, two peregrines hove in to sight. At first I thought they were fighting, then I realized they were playing. It was an amazing sight. Close flying, talon tag, upside, rolls, etc. All executed fast and slow. The show lasted almost 15 minutes before I lost them both. Now, things brings out some questions. Via the web I could ascertain that both the Sheraton and King Street eggs were being incubated. So, who are these two birds. For me, there were two other important issues. When the female flew by me the first time, she was slightly lower than my window, going east to west. I am not one hundred percent certain, but she did seem brown rather than grey. Secondly, the male seemed to wobble frequently - and that reminded me of Windwhistler/Spike!! So, that was yesterday’s exciting news.

Wednesday

April 30, 2008 - Toronto - Four Seasons

Harry Crawford Reports:

A male peregrine was on the south-east corner of the CIBC building at 6:10am, remaining there until 6:36am. A female then took up the east CIBC antenna for a brief time at 7:26am. A male returned to the south-west corner of the same building at 7:40am and stayed until 8:05am.

April 29th

April 29, 2008 - Toronto - Four Seasons

Harry Crawford Reports:

At 8:25am, just before I left for work, Hunter was seen on the south-west corner of the CIBC building. When I returned to the area at 1:20pm, he was on the south side of the same building. At 2:20pm, he disappeared. Viewing the Four Seasons from theĀ  orth-east (Hazelton Ave. and Scollard), a female flew in from the east, circled the hotel just below the roof line, and then headed back to the east. She was carrying food the whole time. Just after she arrived, a male (Hunter) followed her in. He landed on the south-east corner of the building and eventually headed east after her. While heading back to Bay and Bloor, I spotted two turkey vultures heading north by north-west, just north of Bloor. They were circling higher and higher and were not challenged. These were likely the recently found Bloor and Sherbourne vultures. At 4:05pm, the adult male was back on the south side of the CIBC building, remaining until 5:25pm.
