Everything seemed calm and quiet here this weekend when I was on site and both Jack and Angel were present. Due to the weather I was not able to stay around long enough to witness any food going to the nestbox again however Angel was in the nestbox both days when I came.
Last night at the Toronto Residential site the newly released male started an attempt to regain control of his lost territory. Fighting was witnessed both last night and again early this morning with Jack taking a slight chest wound. He is still flying and in control of the territory as far as we know and the other male is okay and is thought to be at a nearby building.
Last report says it is all quiet there now and I have not seen any signs or sounds of Jack coming here to check on Angel or the nest box as of yet. These situations can take a few days to play out so we wait and watch. If anyone out there is watching and witnesses something please do not hesitate to contact the CPF. Thank you.
Days and Days of observations and the peregrines remain at Mt.Sinai. They are showing incubation behaviour, to a point. Then they are not. Perhaps they are just out of sight range. Perhaps with the latest weather they have held close to the eggs. I’m not sure if at this time there is incubation. Both peregrines are seen on the east ledges for what appears to be “incubation” time. I’ve only seen food go into the ledge once, which was promising. Either they are in hard incubation and laying low,or they are just playing “house” The season is still early so if it is a failed nest, there is still hope. Perhaps that is what they are doing.
Tiago brought food in around noon today. I must have just missed a feed around 10:15. As I waited for a very long time for Tiago to appear with lunch. The chicks had a small meal and then Rhea quickly tucked them under and out of the cold.
Fourth egg is still unhatched and at this time I don’t think it will.
Three healthy looking chicks for Rhea Mae and Tiago to raise.
At about 245pm today the first hatchling was seen on our new LIVE VIDEO cam at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/cpf-news . The young one was squirming around under the adult. 3 to go!
King St now has 2 chicks, and we’ve managed to get video of the first sighting of the chick. There was no sign of a second chick last night before nightfall (that I could see), but this morning there was! Watch the video here if you can’t see it below.
The three Sheraton Centre peregrine chicks are eating well and sleeping lots. The fourth egg is still unhatched and at this time, I’m not sure it will. If it is going to hatch, it should be with in the next day or two.
I have just learned that the male from the other site that Jack has been nesting at has been released this afternoon by the MNR. He was released in Mount Nemo and there is a chance he may decided to head home to his former mate. Should that happen, there is potential for conflict between him and Jack. Let us hope it doesn’t come to that particularly with a possible hatch occurring today here.
