!!! Kids will be kids

July 10, 2012 - Windsor - Ambassador Bridge

Dennis Patrick Reports:

We know it has been a while since we did any posting but it has been too hot for us and the four youngsters. All four of them are doing well, they are doing things that we have not seen before in the other years. A few days ago we were there and one of the four landed on the ground and literally walked up to the four pigeons that were standing there. What was it thinking?!?! Finally the four pigeons flew off and then the little Peregrine did the same. Last evening when we were pulling into the parking lot we could hear them and two kids were chasing Voltaire because she had food in her talons. By the time we got parked the two kids were on the ground again with feathers flying like crazy. One of them finally flew away but one stayed there and ate while Voltaire was on the side of the Bridge watching very carefully to make sure the chick was going to be o.k. Finally it flew off and landed under the Bridge with its crop very full. Voltaire landed on the ground, picked up the leftovers and flew up and finished the rest of the bird. Viper, General Brock, Twitter and Eddy are doing quite well and it is always fun to watch them especially when they are flying around together. They really enjoy it when it’s not too hot. We just Thank all of our Volunteers for keeping watch over our four little Peregrines. We have a wonderful team this year, without all of you it would be hard to follow all four of these little ones.

!!! Fantastic Food Transfer

June 24, 2012 - Windsor - Ambassador Bridge

Frank Butson Reports:

Posting for Dennis and Gwen: Extra special thanks to Jerry Peltier for catching this amazing sequence which shows a food transfer(Killdeer) from Freddie to Twitter. This teaches the young Peregrine’s how to hunt for themselves eventually. Great catches Jerry!  See Freddie approaching and Twitter turning upside down to accept the meal.

!!! NEW NEST IN WINDSOR

June 27, 2012 - Windsor - Ambassador Bridge

Frank Butson Reports:

We apologize for the delay in posting, computer issues and everyone being busy in the field held these posts up.

reporting for: CPF Windsor Co-ordinators Dennis and Gwen.

Thanks to Jerry Peltier for these wonderful photos and all of his contributions to the CPF reports.

CPF was made aware of a new nesting site in Windsor. Jerry was able to capture photos of both the male, who is unbanded clearly in Jerry’s incredible shots and the female who is banded. In the photos you can see she has a purple US Fish and Wildlife band(they fade to look pink). This indicates she was banded in the US.  Jerry,Dennis and Gwen will all be trying to get the colour band for a positive ID of the female.

!!! Great flying

June 23, 2012 - Windsor - Ambassador Bridge

Dennis Patrick Reports:

It was a great flying evening for the four of the chicks Viper, General Brock, Twitter and Eddy. Today was the first time I witnessed the sight to see all four of them flying together around the Bridge. It was cool and windy but they did great in their flying skills. Mom and Dad were there to see the whole thing as well.

!!! Mornings and Evenings

June 21, 2012 - Windsor - Ambassador Bridge

Dennis Patrick Reports:

We have noticed in this very hot weather the best time to see the four chicks flying around is early mornings and late in the evenings then the flight show really goes on. Last evening Voltaire was sitting on the first A of Ambassador then flew down and chased away a Great Blue Herron. At one point a food package was brought in and Twitter decided it was hers alone so she went into a corner with her back turned to the rest of her siblings and ate well, later we could see her on a beam with a very full crop. They really enjoy flying under and over the Bridge which of course for us it’s heart stopping. Freddie and Voltaire are always around watching Viper, General Brock, Twitter and Eddy. They really are good parents.

!!! Eddy doing her very best

June 20, 2012 - Windsor - Ambassador Bridge

Dennis Patrick Reports:

We are still on Watch duty due to the fact that Eddy was the last to fledge and has some trouble at times with her landing skills. Thank you to all of the Volunteers that are there at sunrise and then again especially in the evenings until dark. This week we are finding the mornings and evenings are the best time to see them all flying around. It’s amazing to see them fly around the Bridge and landing.

!!! No news is good news

June 18, 2012 - Windsor - Ambassador Bridge

Dennis Patrick Reports:

Viper, Twitter, General Brock and Eddy all doing great. Eddy had a late start in her flying but now seems do be doing quite well. Freddie and Voltaire are always hanging around making sure the kids are doing fine. This weekend we have noticed that the flight school is full time in the mornings and evenings. Yesterday we couldn’t find any of them at first until they were spotted using a spot to hang out on the buildings near the University. It seems to be at a stand still in the afternoons, way too hot for them and us humans as well. Stay tuned for more pics.

!!! Lazy day for the four of them

June 14, 2012 - Windsor - Ambassador Bridge

Dennis Patrick Reports:

For the eight hours we were there the four of them were just having a lazy day. When we arrived at the Bridge Freddie and Voltaire were near the nest ledge. Eddy was on the top of the abutment while General Brock, Twitter and Viper were sitting on the third one down. We saw Voltaire come in once with a food package and Eddy was very happy about that. There was some flights but mainly just sitting and lying around.
