Freddie and Voltaire Both Home

December 13, 2012 - Windsor - Ambassador Bridge

Tracy Simpson Reports:

Bruce Massey and I went on a quest on Wednesday that took us to the Windsor area for a few days.  While there, we made sure to stop by the Ambassador Bridge and check in on Freddie and Voltaire on a beautiful, sunny afternoon.  When we pulled up to the nest site, we initially didn’t have any birds in view and after scanning the church, we located Voltaire on a favored spire digesting a huge crop.  Freddie was on the peak of the church roosting in the afternoon sun.  All of a sudden, a Kestrel came bombing in and went right for the spire where Voltaire was roosting.  This action took her off of her perch in a chase around the steeple of the Kess until all of a sudden, the Kestrel swooped up and into a louvered window on the side of the main spire!  Looks like Windsor may have another little falcon pair at the bridge!!  Freddie had taken off out of view until we spotted a group of pigeons swirling around to the north and right in the middle of the fray was Freddie.  He continued to give chase and attempted to split the flock but the pigeons stayed close together.  After a few minutes, Freddie gave up the chase and returned to the church landing on a spire right beside Voltaire.  There the two sat for quite some time enjoying the afternoon together.  It was so nice to see the pair together and to introduce Bruce to the Windsor nest site as he had never had that opportunity before.

!!! Freddie and Voltaire very vocal

November 08, 2012 - Windsor - Ambassador Bridge

Dennis Patrick Reports:

Yesterday afternoon we spent time watching the two sites, the Ambassador Bridge and the one near the River where there has been sightings of another pair. We didn’t see any Peregrines at all, so we stopped by Nick’s Auto Garage and he was very excited to tell us that he hears Freddie and Voltaire most everyday. His garage is so close to the Bridge that sitting in his parking lot it’s quite easy to see it. It’s nice to see the nest tray cleaned so now we just have to wait for Spring and the courtship to begin.

!!! Freddie on the “A”

November 03, 2012 - Windsor - Ambassador Bridge

Dennis Patrick Reports:

This afternoon we drove down by the River, looking for the pair that has been spotted on the letters of the building but no sign of any Peregrine. We then went to the Bridge, nothing there so we waited for a few minutes and Freddie flew in and landed on the first A of Ambassador. Since the report of the sighting of General Brock in Detroit we are thinking maybe the other three are on their way as well. We’ll keep you updated on any sights we have of the Peregrines here in Windsor.

!!! Freddie and Voltaire

October 28, 2012 - Windsor - Ambassador Bridge

Dennis Patrick Reports:

We have had great reports this weekend from two of our site Watchers, Bob & Joanne, they were driving by the Bridge and they saw Voltaire sitting in the nest tray very busy preening herself with Freddie sitting on the ledge below her looking up at her. Thank You both for letting us know. Also, another one of our Watchers, Paul, has reported to us that he has seen another pair of Peregrines on the Hilton and Chrysler Building downtown. That pair seem to enjoy hanging around the letters of that building. We are hoping that they will have a nest around there this coming spring. Thank You, Paul.

CPF Postmaster Reports:

    Oct. 22nd- 2012

A quickly update, as we have just received good news from Barb Baldinger with regards to one of the Winsor juveniles who was identified by his band number in Michigan USA today.

Hi CPF
This morning, at 9:40 AM, I received a phone call from Tom Heatley, a frequent birder at Lake St. Clair Metropark (formerly called Metro Beach) in Harrison Township, Michigan. He was at the section of the park called the North Marsh, looking at a Peregrine Falcon in a tree. Tom said it had one band with black 22 over black V and red tape on the other band. A quick Internet check showed me that this Peregrine Falcon is General Brock, banded on May 18th of this year at the Ambassador Bridge. Good to know that he is doing well!

Dennis Patrick Reports:

We had a great time at the BBQ last Sunday, the weather, the people and food was great. We even got to see other Raptors flying over while we were eating and chatting with other Volunteers. Mark and Marion Thank You both for the pleasure of meeting other good people that care for the Peregrine Falcons like we do. I’m sure a lot of you know that this weekend and next is the Holiday Beach Hawkfest and this year should be great because Mark and Marion are coming down with one male Peregrine Falcon and one female Peregrine Falcon, one Barn Owl, one Great Horned Owl and one American Kestrel. It goes from 9 A.M. until 3 P.M. all four days. There is a lot of other things to do while you are there, going up onto the Tower is amazing, just watching all the Fall Migration taking place. Hope to see you there.

!!! Empty Nest Blues

August 19, 2012 - Windsor - Ambassador Bridge

Dennis Patrick Reports:

We believe that is what Freddy and Voltaire are having right now because the four fledgings are flying all around and rarely seen in the nest. A couple of evenings ago we stopped by to check things out, while we were there Voltaire was sitting in the nest box, then flew off to the Church Steeple, then to the pipe and then to the ledge just below the nest. There she spent quite a while preening herself. We were there for over three hours and didn’t see Freddy or any of the four kids, he must be still busy teaching them all the skills needed to fly and catch their meals. It was wonderful to see the WPFW Team. What a great year we have been enjoying.
