Mt Sinai Hospital
June 16th - 2022 - AM Report
We received a call from TWC that one of the fledglings from the Mount Sinai nest was brought in by Toronto Animal Services. The fledgling was fine and cleared to be released so we drove up to Downsview and met Mark Heaton there and banded the fledgling. Clearly weighing in as a female at 1001 grams. She was outfitted with red tape on the silver band and Black banded with the Canadian SOLID BLACK band number 20 over AB.
It is much easier to spot a color band from the ground during the fledge watch. Bruce Massey remained on site on the flede watch as we got down to the Hospital and continued his watch from the ground as Mark Nash did the release back on the roof. She did make one flight later and kept her height so all was well at the close of the day. The Mt. Sinai fledge watch continues as per the norm until all three of the offspring have clearly demonstrated that they can hold their altitude and don’t need to be rescued from the ground. A big thank you again to all of the Mt. Sinai staff and their security personnel for all of their assistance and support with access to their facility to get the young fledgling back to the upper roof elevation and back to its parents care.

June 17th - 2022
June 17th AM - Yet another call call this morning from Toronto Animal Services that one of the fledglings was down on a planter at street level in the middle of University Ave., wonderding around looking confused and unable to get altitude back to the safety of the ledges. So I called Bruce who was on site on the fledge watch at the Hospital and the two of them were successful in rescuing the fledgling. The young fledgling was clearly identified as the same fledgling that was rescued from the streets yesterday - (June 16th - Black banded 20 over AB with the Red tape identifier). She will be held at security until later today for observation and if there is no sign of injury, we will release her back to the roof and to her parents care.

Had to go to Toronto Wildlife to pick up one of the fledglings from the Mount Sinai site and take it downtown for release. By the time we got back to Canada Square there was only one chick in site laying down on top of the RioCan building. It was too hot and the fledglings are all tucked in shady spots as are the adults. Hopefully when it becomes cooler tomorrow we will see more of them.

What an exciting afternoon! After Diana went missing this morning, she was reported seen by a resident this afternoon, sitting on top of the entrance to the garage. After attempting to fly from there, she was unable to get enough lift so came to ground in the parking lot . We prevented her from walking across towards the road. and then she flew low to just in front of the Clubhouse where she got herself caught up in the shrubs where Patrick was able to catch her with the towel and we immediately placed her in the pet carrier. She will be released tonight on the rooftop when it gets dark where she will stay until first light when Mom & Dad will take over.
Thanks to all involved in the rescue.

Unbanded Jamie fledged sometime early this morning and when because when we got there he was gone off the nest. We spent time throughout the day searching for him but could not find him. I expect and hope like the others he is high enough to be safe and he will show up sooner or later. the other 3 Sasha, Oli and Neven are all flying very well and we have given them a check mark. They all flew in at 8:00 Pm and each flew one at a time to the south end of the nest building nest ledge level for the night. Another day or 2 to look for and watch Jamie and we will scale back the watch to spot checks.
First photo is of the female Sasha on the antenna on the top of the nest building the second is of Sasha, Oli and Neven on the south end of the nest building at nest level.

Sally and I went to watch the fab four June 14th in the evening….and boy did we have fun! We drove up and spotted 3 immediately and when I went to park the car found #4!! Great. They all were facing in so it took a bit to ID. As #4 was the lowest, though still on top ledge of the nest building, we guessed that it was Nitro(yep). Zigzag was on the copper building on an outside ledge. Ace was on top of 225 and Yeager was on the upper roof of the nest building. Dad was on his covered corner even! Only mom was missing so we were waiting for her to bring food..so were the juvies lol! All was quiet for a bit-Sally’s friend joined us and enjoyed seeing everyone and she got a great show. Then Ace was off flying west, Yeager a minute later then Zigzag and Dad lol. Yep Nitro stayed behind. In a short time we heard the cries and here came Mom with a big bird, Ace on her tail and Yeager behind him. Ace did a flip and an exchange was done!! It was right over our heads–so cool-well done Ace! Now it was a pigeon so Ace lost altitude fast, as Sally said he discovered that flying with a pigeon is like joining a high level gym class lol. They were out of our sight but we ran-by the time we cleared the nest building, they were out of sight but Dad flew by and around. so we kept going and found Mom on the light standard on the west side of the nest building. Now either Ace dropped it or he was on the ground…yep I walked a little further and there he was in the parking lot, with Mom looking down on him. Dad was watching from across the street. He went at that prize I’m telling you lol. Now I have seen this before so I wasn’t worried. Nitro ledge hopped all the way around until he was right above Mom and Ace. Zigzag flew to 220 and was just below Nitro. Yeager was beside himself, he tried to fly to the light standard above Ace but missed, flew to the top of a tree, on a tiny branch, that didn’t work so then tried to land on the hydro pole one of the juvies from last year used. He just touched off that and then flew around and ended up on the hydro pole right at the cross walk near Sally!! Whew. There he stayed and watched. I stayed watching and taking pictures, watching him from the west and Sally took up a little ways to the east. She stopped a very nice man with his 2 dogs(Dad was alarm calling, getting louder as they got closer), advised him of what was going on and he wisely crossed the street and headed back the way he came. Mom finally came down and very carefully walked up to Ace-he wasn’t giving it up yet. She took some and they both ate, right on the ground!! Then Mom finally took it from him and beak fed him. The brothers really ramped it up. Nitro flew off and around 225 and ended up on the first level of 240, where he stayed for the night. Mom finally took the food, Ace jumped onto the railing and Mom took off with it, low over the parking lot, out over the street and the parking lot across the street, gaining altitude and then flew up down past 225 and then around 220 out of sight and had Yeager on her tail in hot pursuit! Ace took off low, right straight below the first level of 220 gaining altitude as he rounded the corner. We found him on the 1st level of 240. When Mom finished feeding Yeager, she went to the roof of 220 and Ace joined her there and got some more food. In the meantime, Zigzag flew off around and ended up high on the window ledge of 225(where he spent his first night of flying!) and remained there for the night. Yeager popped up on 240 and flew to join Zigzag for a short bit..landed pretty good beside him lol. But he didn’t stay long, flying over to say hi to Ace but ended up on another ledge of 225, where he stayed for the night. And Ace remained on the roof of 220.
As Sally said. Wow Ace! We hope we get some lovely flights for a little while, before Quest takes them away to wherever summer school is for her offspring! Thanks to Sally for her cliff notes!!
I know this is long but it just was so amazing to watch and so much fun!!
I stopped by tonight and found all four together on 225…Ace and Yeager on the tiptop and Zigzag with Nitro, who was lying down at first, on the lower roof. Watched a few flights and then headed home. All are doing great..as Sally said, hoping to see some more great flights before they head off!

All was quiet on the home front yesterday.
Braveheart was seen flying around a bit and was “allowed” back in the nest by the girls.
Girls did a lot of wing flapping but no flying.
Thanks to Maggie Pawlak for the pictures.

Got a call today from Bloor Islington Place one of the fledglings was seen on the roof top of the center building and had been there for some time. I let Bruce know where he was and later in the afternoon he still had not jumped up the the retaining wall. Because it was so hot today in the sun Bruce decided to go up and catch him up and hold him over int the Security area in the air conditioning and release him tonight on the nest building. Tracy came out to do the release it was Bullet and he was napping and gave her a real hard time about disturbing his sleep. He refused to get out of the carrier on the roof on his own and she had to reach in grab him and haul his little feathered butt out. It was dark and he did not fly so all went well so hopefully the watchers will see him there on the retaining wall in the morning.

June 14, 2022 - Toronto - Canada Square Building - Yonge and Eglinton
Marion Nash Reports:
This morning started out with a call from a lady at 1 Belsize who had a falcon with a yellow band on her balcony trapped behind the glass. Ok so that’s where Neven got to. We headed there first to rescue the him but by the time we got there he had already flown off her balcony she thought to her neighbors balcony. We contacted building security and the Superintendent who took us up to the suite but no one was home. We drove down the street far enough to see the balcony clearly and there was no bird there. We searched the area in a block radius around the building no luck Neven was no where to be seen.
Disappointed we headed to Canada Square and just got sat down on the watch when Mark sees a fledgling on the black glass building beside the nest building. He took out the spotting scope and after a while the fledgling moved up enough for Mark to get a band number it was C 29 Neven. The Brat had us searching half the morning for him and I guess while we were looking he was making his way home.
Jamie however has graduated to grade 1 and has jumped down from the nest ledge to the concrete platform 4 feet below we call the veranda and spent the day flapping and running the new playpen.
Since we were now missing Sasha and had not seen Oli for 3 days I decided to take another walk around to see if I could find them but again no luck.
Not long after Neven took another flight hooked around to young St and landed on a 8 floor building safe. About 10 minutes later Haven brought him another big pigeon as his reward. We watched him eat his fill and Haven flew in and to take what was left but Neven was not letting it go without a bit of a challenge. Haven won and took the leftovers over to Jamie on the nest.
Neven feeling ripped off tried to follow her and flew over to the nest but missed the ledge and fluttered down very low before he recovered and hooked around back to young St. Out of our site.
Mark walked over to Young and found him on another 8 floor level structure beside the in Horton’s and directly across the street from the nest building.
While Mark was there I heard some fledgling calls and looked up to see 2 fledglings high atop the RioCan building and could see Jamie in the nest and Mark had Neven on Young St so we now have all 4 fledglings home at last!!! It was 8:30 PM and we could see they were all settling down for the night and we took our cue and packed up and called it a night, what a nice way to end the day.
Sorry pictures are with cell phone so not great

When we arrived Neven was no where to be found , Sasha was still on the copper building roof top Oli is still MIA and Jamie is still on the nest. I did a walk around the area to look for Neven and Oli but still no luck I hope they are up high somewhere. There are hundreds balconies they could be on here. Late in the afternoon Sasha finally took flight and went to the condo behind the TVO building and landed on the window washers davit and there she stayed until dark. No flight from Jamie and no sight of Oli or Neven by the time we packed up and left.
1st shot Jamie on nest, second Sasha on copper building and the others Sasha on condo davit.
