June 17, 2019 - Kitchener - CTV-Bell Media Tower
Marion Nash Reports:
Hi all!
I dropped by around 8 tonight. Martha, David, Dave, Marie & Catherine were watching. I met my neighbor Brian on the way there. More new people to add to the group!!
One of the boys was halfway up the hospital tower, the other on the Kings Tower antennae with one of the adults. The 2nd adult not sighted but guess it was on the SunLife tower as both adults headed there last evening after the kids were put to bed. There were a few flights by the boys. And the 2nd adult headed towards the Sun life bldg, shortly after the boys returned to CTV.
By the time I left, around 9, all 3 were safe and sound on the top level of the CTV tower visible from across the street on the sidewalk in front of the hospital. Hemera (I think) in the hero position up in the middle rail, the 2 boys on the platform level.
We should all sleep better tonight! And Hemera too!!!

June 17, 2019 - Kitchener - CTV-Bell Media Tower
Lisa Reh Reports:
Off to a shaky start for Hemera. On June 16th, Janice captured Hemera “imitating a moth” or perhaps thinking she’s a chimney swift.
Kellie reported: “We arrived around 7:20 p.m. and all five were accounted for. The excitement came near the end of the night (of course) when Jupiter became quite agitated around 8:30. After spending the whole evening on the microwave drum on the short tower, he did several hops from one side of the drum to the other. Finally, he took off toward the nest tower but WAY overshot (he had quite a bit of speed), ending up on the highest roof of the hospital. Mama Mystery took off after him, did a circle and then flew back to the tower. Lisa and I went over to King and spotted Jupiter moments before he took off back towards the nest tower, landing very nicely on the highest platform. Yey!!!
Shortly after, both Mama and Papa took off together to the Sun Life sign facing King. Randy, Lisa, Greg and myself left the site with all three kids on the nest tower, and two parents watching from afar at about ten to 9.
Hemera spent the whole time we were there about midway up the tower. I think at this point, Hemera is the most likely one to come to the ground, if any of them do. Apparently, she took some bounces today, and most notably she’s only about half way up the tower. That said, she may gain back her strength with some rest overnight, so fingers crossed.”
Monday morning, Lisa and Kellie were on the watch and Hemera was still half way up the CTV tower but had moved over a bit. Both boys were on top of Kings Tower near the corner facing King & Green Streets. One of the boys took a flight off of Kings Towers and landed on the front side facing KCI. Hemera started flapping like crazy just after Kellie left. There was a food drop on the tower and both adults were on the Kings Tower antennae. Lisa left at 8:45 and Randy arrived at 8:50.
Randy reported:
Hemera has not moved although getting vocal. The two boys flew to the top of the CTV tower. Mystery above.
9:36 While typing a message, Hemera flew and have not located her yet.
10:14 Found Hemera!! All 3 are on the roof of KT. She is being watched by dad.
1:49 When I left at 12:30 Martha and David were still there.
All 3 youngsters were accounted for in various locations on the Kings Tower roof. The parents have been trying to get them to fly. Mystery Man returned about noon with a package prepared. He landed on the back corner of the roof, waited for the kids to come and then proceeded to feed one individual continuously until it had its fill. I could not get positive leg band id but we believe it was Hemera. Both parents have been around all morning, sometimes soaring around the area.
Very happy to have re-found Hemera this morning. It was a tense time after she flew. Martha and I expected her to possibly be grounded so were pleased to find that she had a good flight to the KT rooftop.
David, Martha and Dale joined the afternoon watch.
David reported at 3:30: 2 kids on CTV tower, one just being fed on Kings aerial. Both parents took off hunting about 10 min ago. 3 youngsters still on King’s Towers, one flew down from chimney to the others, mostly can’t see them, except when they occasionally peek out. I think one chick just flew off, and disappeared behind King’s, not sure now where they all are. We think one adult is back on King’s radio tower. Keeping an eye out…
Dale reported:
When I left approx. 5:20 one youngster was on top platform of CTV tower facing the TV parking lot. Other two were over on KT aerial taking turns being fed by Mom and Dad. All three young had some good flights back and forth between KT and CTV nest box tower. Landings are improving. David and Heather were there when I left. Rudy was also there for a while but had to leave. Hope somebody can watch tonight just in case.
Heather reported at 6:15 – “One of the parents just brought food. Prepped on top of platform just about Hemera. Parent then took food to nest box then small drum aerial. Hemera took the cue and flew to KT. Parent still is on aerial either continuing to prep or eating! Two boys are high on KT tower on the metal thing that the wires attach to. The other parent lower on the tower. Hemera is on the parking lot edge of the roof waiting for food.”
At the end of the watch at 9:00 p.m. all 3 juveniles were on top of the CTV tower and the adults both were likely on the Sun Life tower. The one adult flew in that direction after the last boy flew in for the night. You could see them all from the hospital side, with Hemera at the top looking down at her brothers on the platform.

June 16, 2019 - Kitchener - CTV-Bell Media Tower
Lisa Reh Reports:
June 16th was another exciting day on the fledge watch with Heather & Martha on the watch all day. You can watch some of the excitement here:
https://kitchener.ctvnews.ca/video?clipId=1709069&binId=1.1147261&playlistPageNum=1
Heather reported:
6:25 a.m. - I’ve now got all three kids on the small drum tower. Only two at first and then the third came in. I can’t see any bands or parents.
6:35 a.m. - I think Jupiter on the top, Kawhi on the drum and Hemera beside drum.
6:44 a.m. - Food came at 6:35 to drum and I think it’s Kawhi on drum. Other two didn’t know how to get some. Parent came back to drum and is either prepping or eating with son. Exciting Sunday morning. It’s beautiful out here.
7:06 a.m. - Jupiter (I think) went back to box platform. Wow! He first circled to try to get to food on drum.
8:04 a.m. – 8 a.m. and all is well. Jupiter and Kawhi have both have a couple flights. Hemera is still near the top of the small drum tower. Both parents are around but no food delivery since 6:30. Martha, Janice, Lisa, Fraser and Don are here with me.
9:48 a.m. - Everyone has been in the air. Kawhi has been most active and able to get himself around and even out of trouble spots. He’s definitely a star like his namesake. Jupiter kind of slid down the CTV dish and wound up in the roof. He then took off and tried to land on the tower and fell a bit. He’s on a beam from tower over to just below CTV roof about 5-6 metres above the ground. He should be able to get back to the roof but he’s staying put for now. Hemera is on a platform maybe a third of the way up the big tower. She seems to be staying put for now. Dad and Mom are both close. Dad especially has been exhibiting spectacular parenting this morning (imho).
11:24 a.m. - Food came in maybe 10-15 minutes ago. Prepped at the top of the tower near Kawhi and then he went over and stole the food! Jupiter started calling during this time and thought about trying to get up to the roof but he isn’t sure he can do it. He’s hungry. Hemera still on her platform part way up. She calls a bit too. I’ve only seen Kawhi get food since 6 a.m.
12:42 - Jupiter got to CTV roof then to a post on king then back to a relatively high rung on the tower. Awesome!

June 15, 2019 - Kitchener - CTV-Bell Media Tower
Lisa Reh Reports:
Following a cold Friday night with all 3 young peregrines hunkered down in the nest box, June 15 proved to be a very exciting day for falcon fans. Kawhi took his first flight around 2:30 with Heather witnessing the big event! He flew to the hospital while Jupiter vocalized from the platform and Hemera from the nest box. He also flew to Kings Towers and back to the CTV tower.
Kellie reported: Greg and I arrived around 4.15 p.m. to a crowd of observers and we got the scoop from earlier in the afternoon. Happy news for Kawhi and his first flight! And great interview Heather!
https://kitchener.ctvnews.ca/video?clipId=1708813
Most people left before 5, except Martha. We saw Papa come in with a food package and then he passed it mid-air right in front of the nest box to Mama Mystery. I know they must do this at least daily but it’s always so incredible to witness. Mystery promptly took it away towards Sun Life presumably to prep it.
The drizzle became light rain, so we left for a bit for coffee and snack around 5:30 (Martha also left then) and all three kids were accounted for. When we returned about 15-20 mins later, Hemera was in the nest box dealing with a food package (unsure if that’s the one Mystery had taken off with), and both boys were on the platform. An adult was at the top section of the nest tower, in the red metal bars, so it was difficult to see. The boys had shifted positions to be facing out towards the cemetery side and the Pine Street side (unsure which was which) around 6:15-6:30. They all remained in those positions at least until we left around 5 to 7.

June 16, 2019 - Toronto - Don Mills
Cathy Kerr Reports:
I arrived early to find Doha right where I left her-on the pole! And her brothers were watching over her too–so sweet! First RZ hopped off and flew over her and around the blue building and went and chased Dad off the corner of 225. Then Matrix flew off and around her, almost like saying, here this is how you do it!! He and his brother then flew off chasing and playing. Sally joined me then. We settled in, hoping it wouldn’t be an all day thing again! The boys joined Doha on the wires, just for a moment(I grabbed my camera but RZ had flown off by the time I took the pic!) They are adorable!! I will let Sally report on the rest of our watch:
Sally reports:
I joined Cathy at 8:15 this morning, already knowing via Cathy’s text that DoHa was still on the hydro pole.
She assessed the buildings around her, and flew around 9am. An effortless flight, gaining altitude quickly and landing almost like a pro on the roof of the nest building. Cathy and I high-fived and did a happy dance lol.
We sat down and watched to see where she’d go next. Cathy had a feeling she’d fly east and make for 240 Duncan Mill Rd and that’s exactly what she did. Another fabulous flight! Now she could see Quest above her. A couple more fabulous flights (still landing on the same building after circling out and trying different spots to land). Her brothers flew over, and Cathy and I moved our chairs for a closer view.
She and her brother got fed, and after consulting with Marion it was decided we could move to spot checks. She is flying great! Spot checks will help us track her progress and hopefully she will be careful as her brothers show her their new locations and try and engage in aerial antics.
Finishing much earlier than we expected to, we took advantage of the time and did another drive around to various buildings and back parking lots, and all the areas that can be hard to access during a busy work day, checking for Bobak. No luck.
Sundays are wonderful for fledge watching in the suburbs! Today was also the perfect day for DoHa to fly. No wind to battle.
Our relief at 3 flying well was boosted by news of the missing Sheraton chick, BonVoy. It renewed our hope that maybe, just maybe Bobak will appear very soon.
Cathy :
And now our watch has ended. We will be doing spot checks to see how our family is doing. I want to thank the building management and security at 220 Duncan Mills for all their support…it makes for a much nicer watch with all their help! I also want to thank the team-Sally, Lucie, Bob,Mark and Marion–these 3 juvies would not be flying and doing so well without our fledge watch team!! This was a tough ending, we spent hours looking for Bobak to no avail…it is always so hard losing one. I still hold out some hope that she will find her way home, it has happened before!! Fingers crossed..
Stay high little ones!!

June 16, 2019 - Kitchener - CTV-Bell Media Tower
Marion Nash Reports:
As of 3:40pm, Kawhi is sitting on the corner of King’s Tower, Jupiter has been on the top of the short CTV tower drum, and Herera finally took a short flight to a low dish then to the roof of the Pine Street Medical building. Both adults are here and have tried to entice them back to the main tower and nest box.

Hello all!!
We were watching from 3:30-7:30 (or something like that!)
Hemera had an adventurous flight over to a windowsill on the hospital then attempted to return to the tower but missed the landing and fell through the tower but managed to land on whatever the low building beside the parking lot is. She then returned to the health centre. That was between 3-5. Then around 6:30 she took off from the health centre and missed a landing on the chimney and ended up looking like a moth. I am attaching a picture but I think Janice got a better one. I kept the picture pretty large because you might not see her otherwise. Then she was able to return to the nesting tower. Around 7:30 she was half way up the tower and Mystery had swooped near Hemera once. Trying to get her to move?
Also saw a fantastic flight from Kawhi who flew to the apartments and almost landed on a balcony before turning around, circling, and returning to the nesting tower. It was amazing.
Great fun to watch Kawhi interact with his siblings. Hemera’s flight to the hospital was shortly after Kawhi flew to her and was interacting with her. Then Kawhi spent much of the late afternoon on the large drum with Jupiter (where they are fiendishly difficult to see!).
Both Kawhi and Jupiter were fed on the drum. No food for Hemera yet.
Lisa, Janice, Kellie, and someone that I am forgetting were there when we left.
What a fun day! Never a dull moment.
Joy and Micah

June 16, 2019 - Etobicoke - William Osler
Marion Nash Reports:
WILLIAM OSLER WATCH - It started without me. Of the four chicks on the ledge, at least two are boys and they were out the gate before the watch officially began!! We were so busy with Amanda and Drago that we were struggling to get out to Osler and so Rob stopped in for us to take a looksee. Oh boy. One on the roof of the hospital already and he wasn’t really sure about the other three. So on Wednesday evening I went down to check it out and for sure not one but two of the kids had successfully fledged. Not only were they both on the roof but they were in and out of the tower, in and out of the ledge and in general all over the place. A checkmark for both of them. I found the other two still on the ledge and clearly unfledged. I stayed until dark and all had settled. Last night I pulled in to find the same situation. Two on the roof and two on the ledge. I believe the two on the ledge are females. Suddenly one of the girls gets it into their head that flying looks like fun and takes off. The flight was excellent and even though they had to all but throw themselves onto the roof to come to a landing, they were up high safe and sound. Another flight by the newly fledged female and this time it ended with the young one doing the “bat”, hanging on the concrete wall just below the roofline. Chessie came over and helped out by swooping up repeatedly beside the fledgling to encourage her up. So up the wall she crawled to the rooftop. Her third flight just before dark ended up with her halfway up the tower on a thin rail she had a hard time balancing on. That’s where she stayed for the night. Rob was in this morning and not only had she gotten up to the roof, so had the final young one! All four have now fledged and its a matter of making sure the two females are up to snuff with their landings and flights. Great news so far!
OSLER UPDATE - a quick check before heading to MEC for Amanda’s release. By tomorrow night all 4 juveniles will be check marks and watch will be scaled back is my prediction. Amazing.
WILLIAM OSLER UPDATE - I was going to write this last night and fell asleep about three sentences in so thought it best to write this today. I can happily say that the William Osler fledge watch is officially scaled back to spot checks now. All four juveniles were out and about yesterday and the two recent fledges were all over the map. They were elated to finally be in the air with their brothers and were going from building to building, rooftop to tower, tower to ledge…like I said, everywhere!! Landings are still being perfected as we speak but the danger of coming down looks to have passed. Thank you William Osler Hospital for being such great hosts for the peregrine family! Also, thank you so much to security for being so helpful and accommodating as well as the staff of this great site. Another great year for Chessie and Casper!!
