!!! Fight to Death
May 04, 2016 - Port Colborne - ADM Mill
Doug Garbutt Reports:
So far this year we have seen 2 eggs laid by the resident female, Trillium. Both eggs have been broken, we didn’t witness how. The resident male is still Buffalo Bill. Today around 10:30am 2 Juvenile females appeared in our nest box. They had a battle inside the nest box which lasted for about 45 minutes and resulted in the death of one of the birds. The deceased bird has since been delivered to the CPF. The victor is still frequenting the box and we haven’t seen Trillium before or after the battle.

May 04, 2016 - Kitchener - CTV-Bell Media Tower
Marion Nash Reports:
Got a call today from ADM Mills. The resident pair had an unwelcome visit from 2 juvenile peregrines and the 2 got into it heavy in their nest box. While the resident adults watched. The victor an unbanded bird killed the other peregrine but her talon got hooked on of all things the band of the other and she was fastened tight and exhausted. Doug went up to see if he could help out and when he opened the door on the nest box she renewed her struggle and managed to get free. Doug was able to get a band number from the as K over 27. Sadly it turns out that it was Red Bud a female that was produced at this site in 2015 and banded last May.
!!! We have a hatch!!!
May 02, 2016 - Oshawa - Lakeridge Hospital
CPF Postmaster Reports:
May 2nd - 2016
Our bad,, as we are way behind in the updates!! Yes, congratulations is in order on several accounts,,,
Yes, the resident Oshawa pair have in fact been involved in full time incubation duties over the past month!
It would appear by the recent observations and photos, (with much thanks to the dedicated “human” hospital foster parents, the resident adults are the same as last year.
The adults did in fact winter over on territory and remained very territorial and protective of their new nest box! Outsiders beware!!!!
The best news of late (only just today),, is that eggs are starting to hatch!!! With one egg confirmed to have hatched so far,, its shaping up to be a very positive season for the resident adult peregrines at Lakeview!!
Stay tuned…………
Congratulations are in order!!!
!!! We Have A Hatch!
May 02, 2016 - Toronto - Don Mills
Marion Nash Reports:
I managed to quickly run into an office when I noticed Quest and Skye out on the ledge. Sure enough, eggs have hatched. I am pretty sure I can see two babies. Wasn’t able to see if there are any unhatched eggs behind the white fluffy bundle, they were huddled together like they usually are. Quest was just outside of the box, no doubt waiting for Skye to bring food

!!! 3 baby ‘grines’ arrive in Kitchener !!!
May 02, 2016 - Kitchener - CTV-Bell Media Tower
Lisa Reh Reports:
On Sunday, May 1 at 7:36 a.m., Karen observed an egg shell at the back of the nest box. A little time later, the adult repositioned enough so that a new baby ‘grine’ could be seen peeking out! On May 2 at 9:30 a.m., a second baby was observed by Karen as Caster dropped off a package to Mystery at the edge of the box. They traded off and on for a few minutes and eventually Mystery began to feed both chicks. Matt confirmed seeing 3 hatchlings this morning. Welcome to the world little wee ones!!!
!!! Ambassador Bridge Nest Sightings
May 01, 2016 - Windsor - Ambassador Bridge
Marilyn Weller Reports:
I spent a couple hours at the bridge this morning with the spotting scope. One adult in the nest the entire time except for a very brief flight out to a girder and then the return within a couple minutes. Given the size, I believe it was Voltaire. Victor was perched on the steeple for the first half hour of my viewing but then flew off and didn’t return while I was there.
I did see a very small patch of white just above the top of the nest tray so I think we may have at least one hatchling now. Voltaire moved around a fair bit while attending to her nest. The heavy humidity and foggy conditions made the viewing challenging today.
Mark stopped by and joined me in watching for a while. He reported that he saw the white tuft a day or two ago using his binoculars.
We’ll report more as we have new sightings here.
