Incubation continues

May 08, 2014 - Toronto - Sheraton Centre

Linda Woods Reports:

Incubation continues at the Sheraton and we expect a hatch soon. Wouldn’t it be nice for Mother’s Day! Sheraton Centre Toronto has had a hatch on Mother’s Day previously, so let’s hope for another. Early morning is best to see a new hatchling, when the sun is on the ledge. Keep watching the webcams and send us a note if you should see a hatch.

Waiting for a hatch

!!! #4 is in the House!!

May 08, 2014 - Etobicoke - Sun Life Centre

Kathy Reports:

Jack came in with food again for the second time since 6 am and I managed to see number four.  He’s just recently hatched as he’s laying down drying out and you can see a bit of shell there still but he’s clearly arrived!

In other news:  have just received word that Jack also has 4 eggs at the TR site.  The falcons are nesting on a new ledge and went undetected until window washers ran across them and made the discovery.  No idea when they were laid or when they will hatch or even if TR Mom is still the resident female.  More details as or if we get them.

!!! General Brock Update

May 07, 2014 - Windsor - Ambassador Bridge

Marilyn Weller Reports:

Greetings!   We received the following news today that General Brock, hatched in Windsor in May of 2012, has been sighted nearby in Michigan:

Hello My Canadian Friends,

One of your male Peregrine Falcons may possibly be nesting on the tower at the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club in Grosse Pointe, Michigan.  Chris Becher of the MDNR and I identified a male with the all black band of 22/V.  He is General Brock, hatched at the Ambassador Bridge in Windsor, Ontario and banded on May 18, 2012. This is the same falcon that local birder, Tom Heatley saw on October 21, 2012 at the North Marsh of Lake St. Clair Metropark in Harrison Township, Michigan.

I had hoped to give you the identity of the female with him, but at this time, we only know that she is banded.  We have not been able to confirm if they are nesting, so I will let you know when we find out.

The Windsor Falcon Watch Team is grateful to our friends in Michigan for this great news!

!!! Almost Ready for Flight!

May 07, 2014 - Mississauga - Executive Centre

Kathy Reports:

SkyGirlBlue over at BCAW forum managed to catch these 2 great photos of our little juvie a few minutes ago.  What a difference a few days makes now.  Just a bit of down left now!

!!! Lunch Time!

May 07, 2014 - Etobicoke - Sun Life Centre

Kathy Reports:

Managed to catch Jack coming in with yet another food delivery.  I saw another egg shell come out earlier but don’t know if it was older shell she just moved or ‘new’ shell.  And from this feeding could really only see 2 babies clearly.  O’Connor has also stashed food in the corner for next feeding as it’s chilly out today and this way she won’t have far to go.

!!! Hatch #3 on the way!!

May 07, 2014 - Etobicoke - Sun Life Centre

Kathy Reports:

Just caught a shift change…two heads and one cracked egg so #3 is on the way..

!!! Hatch #2 for O’Connor & Jack

May 07, 2014 - Etobicoke - Sun Life Centre

Kathy Reports:

Possibly even a third but can’t tell at the moment.  I see two for sure and one egg.  The other egg could be hidden.  Feeding going on right now.

Well Look Who’s Back

May 06, 2014 - Mississauga - Executive Centre

Tracy Simpson Reports:

Thanks to the watchful team at MEC, the little one was caught back on cam lounging on the porch today.  The wee one made a brief foray Sunday out onto the ledge and down into the window well.  Bruce was out yesterday and watched as food went into that ledge and remained there indicating that the young one was hiding out in the nest ledge well.  Even though the chick still has lots of down left to go, it is one brave little traveler already.  Thank you to Margaret for the capture and Katherine for her watchful eye!

Also, we would like to welcome Grace and Mary to the MEC watch team.  You’re right Margaret, it looks like this little one is going to give us a run for our money!!
