May 02, 2012 - Mississauga - Holcim
Tracy Simpson Reports:
I stopped by Holcim today for a check in and met with the staff keeping a close eye on Caspian and Storm as the pair progresses towards a hatch. To date there has not been a hatch as of yet but we are all watching closely for food entering the ledge and increased activity by the adults as they care for dependant young. Check back soon as the best is yet to come!!

Tracy Simpson Reports:
I heard about the update posted by Kathy having seen food going into the ledge and decided to check it out to confirm the news. I went up to a higher elevation to get a look and found Angel in the tray looking like the top of a muffin!! Hunch back doesn’t quite describe it! To the left of her was the shell of an egg, evidence of the young she hid beneath her. Congratulations to Oxford Properties and the Etobicoke Sun Life Centre on your first hatch of 2012!!!

Rhea Mae arriving at the nest ledge. She’s looking at her talons, perhaps she forgot the take-out. One little one in view.

Kathy Reports:
3:50 pm today I observed Jack arriving at the ledge with his food in his talons. He landed directly in front of the nest box and Angel immediately jumped out and grabbed the food. Jack then took off screaming and dive bombing on some TV’s that had entered the territory while Angel assumed feeding position.
I could clearly see her bending over and feeding someone and I could hear her chupping to them. I notified CPF and a few minutes ago Tracy - who was nearby - went up to the adjacent condo rootops and confirmed visually that we have eggshell in the nestbox!
So finally …we have some eyases! Congratulations Jack and Angel!

May 02, 2012 - Burlington - Lift Bridge
Sue McCreadie Reports:
Although we have no firm evidence of a hatch, ie. little white heads, I’m almost positive we do. Bill and I spent some time at the Lift Bridge this afternoon. Mackenzie was hanging out on the Hamilton Cable Arm, bay side. He landed once on the next box, had what appeared to be a quick conversation, and then returned to the arm. Cirrus appeared to be restless up and down, up and down. She is usually not visible in the nest box. We went down the road by the washroom and she is definitely not laying low. She is up, appears to be mantling and definitely restless. Unfortunately it was quite foggy so we couldn’t get a clear view with our scopes. We will try again when the sky is clear.

CPF Postmaster Reports:
May 2nd - 2012
This morning we again ran up to the falls as the weather forecast predicts rain for the next couple days which will make viewing the aerie difficult.
With the lighting conditions the pix we got are not real crisp, but it sure looks as is the parent pefa is mantling! Is there a hatch being protected from the mist? Wish we had a scope with superior power! We did not see A second pefa in the gorge.

May 1st- 2012
We have just received an update from Armando and Holcim.
Armando writes:
As of end of day May 1 2012 there is no evidence of a hatch that we could tell.
The resident adults are staying pretty tight to the scrape and are never off long enough for us to make the trip up to the top in time to take a look.

April 28, 2012 - Toronto - Mount Sinai Hospital
Tracy Simpson Reports:
This past Saturday Frank, Linda and I spent several hours down at the Mount Sinai Hospital site watching Hunter and Ranger’s activities around the building. We started off our day at a higher elevation where we could see the nest tray located on a ledge on the east face of the building. While they had initially shown interest in the tray, we were able to determine that there are no eggs in the tray and that their interest is in the ledge to the right of the one with the tray. We immediately found both adults; one on the chosen ledge and the other on a building to the north by the “Intact” sign. It was easy to pick out that the one near the Intact sign was Ranger as she is one big bird! We then took our observations down to the street at which time Hunter became very active. Ranger flew into the chosen ledge and disappeared in the back corner out of our view and Hunter flew up to take her place on the other buidling. He sat there for quite some time and was joined later by Ranger. With the pair on the same building, we had another peregrine enter the territory which Hunter immediately went out to address. Ranger stayed right where she was until a fourth peregrine joined the fight and the battle continued to the north. Shortly thereafter, both adults returned. Ranger went back into the ledge and Hunter sat several ledges south of her in the last rays of the day. We were treated again to some activity as Hunter went of in pursuit of lunch and brought a fair sized pigeon down onto the lower roof of the Toronto General Hospital. He consumed his share and then flew across the street to invite Ranger to take her fill.
It is hard to say what exactly they are attending to in the corner of that ledge but they are certainly showing great interest. We are still seeing both birds periodically together and so a full clutch of eggs is not likely at this time. We hope that the pair can have a successful year this season which would make it their first ever. It has been a decade of trying for Hunter, 12 years old now, and Ranger who turned 11 years old this year. We wish them the best of luck this season and hope that 2012 is their year. Check back soon as there are many pictures from the day to follow.
