Linda Woods Reports:
The not so little ones will be banded this Friday and given names. At this time we will know males and females. Food is delivered to these young ones on a regular basis and they don’t take their time devouring the fresh meals. Rhea Mae and Tiago share in the household chores equally.

Linda Woods Reports:
Both adults remain on the nest site, be cannot confirm a hatch at this time. Eggs are still in the nest area, and incubation continues, as to a expected date of hatch is becoming more doubtful. Behaviour is still consistent to incubation, defending the nest area. The adult male is very attentive. Observation will continue for evidence of a hatch and will be reported here.

How fast they grow, perhaps it’s the heat. Gee, they don’t stay cute very long do they. This image captured off the web cam this evening during a feed.

May 24, 2010 - Burlington - Lift Bridge
Sue McCreadie Reports:
Bill and I spent a few good hours at the Lift Bridge yesterday (May 23rd) and today (May 24th). Yesterday, around 2:00 pm, we witnessed Mom pluck a pigeon out of the sky. She took it to a concrete ledge under a light standard on the bay side of the Skyway Bridge to prepare it for the little ones. Today, she went to the same area and picked up an already prepared meal and returned to feed the little ones.
We had a third Adult Peregrine in the area today. All of a sudden we heard a lot of vocalizing and knew that something was about. Both birds took off after the intruder. Mom returned a short time later but Dad was missing for quite a while, but eventually returned after making certain the intruder did not return.
With scopes and camera, we have been trying to see band numbers and today, after much deliberation, we are almost certain that the adults have not changed from last year. We have Dad, Sir Adam Beck born in 2006 at the King Street nest in Toronto and Mom, Cirrus born in 2006 in Dayton Ohio.
Here’s hoping for a successful season.

Just as I had anticipated, all three chicks are now out of the nest tray and free to wobble the nest ledge. I arrived this morning just in time for a morning snack. They are really impressive looking birds.

Sue McCreadie Reports:
Bill and I spent a couple of hours at the Lift Bridge yesterday and I’m very happy to confirm that we were able to see two little white heads. Are there more? We will keep watching. Mom was trying to shelter the little ones from the hot noon day sun, but they still managed to escape to peer over the edge.

Linda Woods Reports:
Incubation continues and since we have only a guess as to when full incubation started, we can only estimate a hatch date. So daily viewing will continue until confirmation can be made to the status of the nest.
The day’s heat kept the second out of my view and in the shade of another building. Red Tail hawks are usually out mid-day and were seen the past few days over Queen’s Park. While I was watching, one peregrine appeared on the ledge and I waited wondering when the peregrine will see the Red tail. It wasn’t long and the adult male peregrine was off towards the intersection of College and University. Don’t know what the outcome was, as they both flew out of my line of sight.

Linda Woods Reports:
King St birds are growing fast, and since they were hatched on the natural sub-scrape, they are free to move around. Today being one of the warmest days so far this spring, the chicks head for the shade of the pillar. Good for them, but it may be a little more difficult for viewers to see them. But reaassured, they are there, you just have to keep watching.
In this image you can see them near the pillar and the two unhatched eggs still in the nest bowl.
