On Saturday I was checking out the web cameras in the morning and caught Windwhistler at home doing the housework. For the most part he wandered back and forth along the ledge and spent a good patch of time preening but at one point, Erin must have done a fly by to check on him and he became very animated. He ran off of the ledge and straight into the nest bowl behind the pillar with a look to say, “Almost done, dear. I’m working on it.” Erin did not land on the ledge but you could tell that she’d left as he peeked out from behind the pillar and went back to the ledge to nap. Nice to see him there and so animated!!

On Sunday, I met up with Linda Woods and we were chatting about the downtown pairs at King Street and Toronto Sheraton Hotel and how camera shy they have been lately. I was able to capture an image on Sunday of a tail sticking out from behind the pillar indicating that someone was indeed home at King Street during the warm spell. As we were chatting and watching the skies, zzzzzzzzzoooooooooommmm… …Linda’s eagle eye catches one of the adults flying south through the downtown core towards the lakeshore. I remarked how nice it would be to see them both and confirm the presence of the pair in the area. Before I could finish my sentence, zzzzzzzzzoooooooooommmm… …Windwhistler flies through in hot pursuit of Erin towards the lakeshore. The pair were definately onto something and had serious intentions! Great to see the pair in action, however brief, and I will be back down to visit with them in the near future.

My next stop on my travels was at 18 King Street East to check in on Windwhistler and his girl Erin. When I arrived, I could not see a bird anywhere. I check all of the usual spots on the St. James cathedral, Dundee Place, the King Edward and the Toronto St. buildings but no sign of either bird. I stopped in for a bite of lunch and when I came back out, still no peregrines. I walked the block in the hopes of finding them and to the east, I watched a flock of pigeons going absolutely crazy. I travelled back and tried to check the area but I guess a sighting of these two fabulous birds wasn’t meant to be. They were probably out shopping for each other for the holidays!! I will check back in the coming weeks as to just what the pair are up to these days!! Happy holidays Windwhistler and Erin and all of the great folks at 18 King Street East!!

After Bruce and I left the Toronto Sheraton Hotel yesterday we made a quick pass on our way east at the King Street nest site to check in on Erin and Windwhistler. A film crew was set up on Toronto St. so we couldn’t really stop and spend some time but we did manage to catch one of the adults on the nest ledge right beside the web camera and as we turned east on King Street, the other adult was on the St James spire in the sun. Think they might be getting their Santa Claus parade seats before the crowds get there.

While now in the shade as the afternoon sun sets in the west on the opposite side the nest building, home is still home, and a safe place to be! For a third day this week, we have been watching activity on the Toronto downtown King Street nest ledge by at least one of the resident adult peregrines.

After the Burlington Lift Bridge, I had some time on my way out to Leslieville and so stopped in at 18 King Street East for a looksee as to who was home. I found both adults on the nest ledge staying out of the rain and each at their own end of the ledge. Erin was fast asleep with her head under her wing for most of her nap and Windwhistler was staring out at the cityscape roosting and relaxed. As with the lift bridge, it was great to see the pair at home especially after Sandy has been battering the city with winds and rain for such a prolonged period.

Just a quickly update as I was scanning the nest web cams this morning. Sadly, I was not quick enough to snap the shot while both adults were doing some bonding with each other this morning, but I did manage to get one snapshot of one of the adults before it left.
Nice to see them together again at home.

At 9:45 this morning, four peregrines in view, playing chase over the roof of the King Edward Hotel. Three peregrines still favour the scaffolding of upper areas of the Hotel possibly indicating that those three are juveniles. It’s great to finally see them all again, after not seeing them for a long time. Wonderful day for flying!

Linda Woods Reports:
This morning around 09:30 am, four peregrines flying in the air, some vocalization by Aphrodite. It appears that one of the adults had food and the larger juvenile, Aphrodite was determined to get it. Two others following. Not sure if it was Windwhistler and one of the boys, or two of the juvnile males following. I lost sight of them as they flew eastward towards the St. Lawrence Market area.

A check on the web cam and I found Erin in behind the nest pillar tending to house keeping. She is making a new scrape. This afternoon, while walking past the King St. nest site, I had one juvenile on the north facing ledges of 18 King, in the shade. One on the chimney scaffolding of the KEH and one adult on the nest ledge.
