Quick update for Don Mills/Old Harlequin: Quest & Mystery’s trio are growing fast! I checked in on them last night-all look great-the boy, Canuck is on track to go first- least amount of down on him(tho Seven of Nine stayed pretty hidden except for her head lol). Fledge watch starts Friday-unless we have a slip and fall!! Or hopefully, a slip and flight!
The chicks still have quite a bit of fluff on them so we think the fledge watch should begin on June 5th. Anyone wishing to help out please contact us at 416-481-1233.
Some shots of Quest and John at banding today.
Our second banding! Its also 2 girls and a boy for Quest & Mystery! Welcome: Hope(female, 760g, banded Z/32, Red tape), Seven of Nine(female, 805g, banded Z/31, White tape) and Canuck(male, 605g, banded C/11, Yellow/green tape). Quest was her usual amazing self, buzzing everyone and Mystery was also very present and very vocal. All quiet when we left-beautiful family! Fledge watch begins before we know it!
I can finally confirm at least 3 hatches for Quest and Mystery!! It was a warm day and Quest was too hot in the nest box, so she hung out on the edge, allowing me to get some pictures of the box. I was quite far away but you can see the little bobbleheads at the back of the nest box. The first picture is of Mystery with the babies, all the rest are of Quest.
Sally and I have been checking in on our family here for the past week as Quest and Mystery Guy are expecting any day! For the most part, its been a pretty quiet watch but, during these difficult times, it makes me feel well, normal. And gives me the uplift I need to know that life goes on and all really will be ok again. Anyways…spent quite a bit of the day there yesterday, it was a beautiful day , so why not? Bob stopped by, great to see him! Sally came, always great to see her :). I got some great shots of Mystery Guy, Quest for the most part was hunkered down. I was just getting ready to leave when Dad came in for the shift change and I grabbed my camera up and got a so so pic of her heading out of the nest box! She was on a mission..grabbed the food from Dad and was gone. Dad settled in for his turn.
Today was kinda yucky, rain and all, but I decided to take a quick late afternoon trip over to check them out. And I think it was worth it. Mom of course was in the box but this time when Dad came, she would not budge. He stayed for a few minutes as if to say–are you sure?? Then he flew off to hang out two windows over and there he stayed. I have been watching them all week and this was the first time she did not do an exchange….hmmmm
I also saw Quest seem to pick something up and seem to eat it…maybe the shell??? I will keep dropping by until I see a feeding to be sure. And I am sure Sally will join me(socially distancing of course) next weekend to hopefully get some pics of some bobbleheads!!!
Stay tuned…stay safe
Cathy

I stopped by the nest site today to find Quest down on egg(s?) in the nest box!! She peeked out very sweetly when her Guy came calling in with her dinner…lots of chatter between the loving couple. We’ll know in a month or so how many for the pair this year! Something wonderful to look forward to!
Update: Don Mills /Harlequin : I had to drop my hubby off at an appointment on Duncan Mills on Saturday, so I threw my camera in, just in case… And there they were, sunning themselves on the nest ledge!! Quest and (I am fairly sure) Mystery Guy❤️❤️. They look great!!! Looking forward to a great season
