June 14th

June 14, 2021 - Etobicoke - Sun Life Centre

Marion Nash Reports:

There was a feeding this afternoon for Dart by the time Mark and I got there Lucie said other than the feeding it was a very quite morning. I suppose after her fledge Tornado needed to get her nerve back and her bearings for the next flight and with a full crop Dart decided a nap was in order.
It rained on and off most of the afternoon and began to hail Dart never budged but Tornado ran and flapped back and forth the ledge yelling clearly hating the hail. After it stoped the sun came out for a short time and she settled down until about 3:30 when she started her hunger tantrum yelling at Mom for food. That lasted until mom could stand no more and took of hunting and in minutes came back with food, dropped it on the ledge at her feet and took back off the her usual spot on top of the web camera.
Just after 5:00 Tornado took to the air for another short flight moving over to the east tower 2 ledges over from the nest. At 5:30 Dart decided to take a flight and was joined by both adults for a niece flight around the east tower and was minutes later joined by his sister. The flight only lasted a minute and brother and sister landed on the east tower Tornado on the roof and Dart on the ledge next to the nest ledge. By 7:30 feeling very confident Tornado took another flight and landed on the roof of the west condo roof next door and sat there while mom brought in a food package for Dart she only stayed a short time and flew again to the east condo roof top.
When we left just after 9:00 PM Dart was still on the ledge beside the nest ledge and Tornado very much the big girl now was still on the east Condo tower roof top.
Lucie has just a few photos from this morning. Tornado on the Starlight ledge, mom preparing food on Starlight, mom takes food to Dart who is on the nest ledge but didn’t get any to Tornado.

Marion Nash Reports:

Raindrops keep falling on my head. Me and a baby falcon don’t like getting wet. La la la. Young Tornado fledged this morning. She’s way up there on Starlight building and hopefully stays that way. The current showers have got her pretty antsy.

Bloor/Islington - June 12 - Fledge watch Day #3

June 12, 2021 - Etobicoke - Sun Life Centre

Marion Nash Reports:

No photos, no news because nothing happened. TORNADO is still on the nest ledge. We’re hoping for a fledge in the next couple of days. I found DART on his favourite ledge on ADP just before 8 pm. What a difference from last night! No flight activity, no air show. Mom brought food for TORNADO at around 8:30. She devoured it then Dad came in and ate as well. I didn’t see any food taken over to DART. I left at 9 pm. It was great to spend a few hours with Mark who came to keep watch on TORNADO and hopefully see some flight activity. Well .. tomorrow is another day. Cheers, Lucie

!!! Bloor/Islington - June 10, 2021 - DART fledges!

June 11, 2021 - Etobicoke - Sun Life Centre

Marion Nash Reports:

I’ve been stopping off at Bloor/Islington for the past few days since I couldn’t see DART and TORNADO on the webcam. The two juvies tend to be under the camera where it’s a bit shadier. Yesterday, no matter how far I back I went I couldn’t see DART (blue tape). So marked the first day of fledge watch.

Doing a complete walk around the area, ledges and ground, I didn’t see anything, so I just waited. Six hours later (5:30 pm), there he was, a little blob perched on the ADP ledge. For the next three hours, I watched him exercise his wings, but that was it. Mom, D’ARCY, perched across on the Starlight building, while Dad, LUCKY, remained on the ledge with his little girl.

The most interesting part of the evening was watching D’ARCY and LUCKY encourage DART to fly. They circled around him while he was screaming at them. I don’t know when he was fed last. D’ARCY left to hunt and it was so cute watching LUCKY fly out to meet her and then they returned together while she fed TORNADO. D’ARCY took the rest of food and flew to Starlight and waited for DART to fly to her. She circled around him and tried again. That wasn’t going to happen, so D’ARCY eventually gave up and just took the food over to him and dropped it off.

She and LUCKY remained out of sight for the rest of the evening. DART finished his meal, did a flew flaps and that was it for the night. I left at 8:30.

We’ll see what Day 2 brings. Cheers, Lucie
