Lots of crows about

June 05, 2020 - Kitchener - CTV-Bell Media Tower

Lisa Reh Reports:

I was out at the site close to the sportsfield east of the CTV tower. There’s a fairly good view of the site from the field. Both adults were very active and they continually flew north towards Herbert Street and squawked a lot from the trees on that street. They then flew back to the nest site I checked the web cam and Hope, Casey & Artemis were all safe and sound. They did this at least 5 times, so we decided to walk down Herbert Street to see where they were going. We figured out what tree they were going to, but to get a better view we needed to go into Mount Hope cemetery from the north side off of Roger Street. We found the tree, it’s a very large sugar maple tree and I spoke to one of the neighbours in their backyard. She said that the adults have been continually doing this for at least 1/2 hour or so. It looks like there are quite a few bird feeders in those back yards, so Mystery and Enigma were probably looking for a snack. The odd crow was flying about too. A raccoon peeked it’s head out from the crook of the tree while we were talking to the neighbour.

On our way back through the cemetery, we noticed there were quite a few crows that had  arrived, probably 30 in a large dead tree at the north corner of the sports field. The peregrines were not happy about them being there and as we headed home, they were giving the crows a hard time.
