Cathy Kerr Reports:
DON MILLS/AMEXON(ICICI) UPDATE: WE HAVE A HATCH!! Three actually!! With one egg still unhatched..may have 4 but we won’t know until banding(fingers crossed) as we won’t be going up to check again as we don’t want to disturb our little family!!
They are nesting on the other building this year, as work was going to be done on 250. The great management there informed Mark & Marion early January(I believe) that the air conditioning unit on the roof of the building needed to be replaced and wanted to know how to protect the peregrines and the workers. It was decided the best thing was to block the nest ledges on the building and move the nest tray over to 150. Now, the first two years that Jenna was here, she nested on 150, then moved over to the other building. So we (and I mean Mark and John lol) moved the nest tray over to the original nest ledge on 150, this was the first week of March. John had just pulled his ropes over and onto the roof, when not 5 minutes later, they heard echuping and peeked over to see both adults on the ledge!! Good sign! So Mark held his phone over the edge(brave man) and took a couple of pics. And got a great pic of Jenna IN THE NEST TRAY!! Great sign!! After that I saw them coming and going from that ledge and then lots of mating! Then I saw exchanges and knew we had an egg at least!
Now this rooftop is not the same as 250. No 9 foot retaining wall here. Just 1 foot. Gulp. But that wasn’t going to stop me. And as my son still lives with us(still in university lol), no social distancing problem here, up we went. I really was getting used to it. But we only needed 3 trips(I counted the days so as not to go too early, less tripsĀ ). And today’s trip we were rewarded!! Mom flew up immediately when Justin got up the ladder, she had not done that before…when I got my head up and saw her there, I booted it. Got my camera out, got Jenna(she looked so cool) and then hurried to snap off a few pics of the nest tray…and was thrilled to see a pile of white! Babies!! Guess they like the nest tray(first year used from beginning)…Can’t wait til fledge watch!!! Sorry for the long story…Stay safe everyone. Cathy
