Canada Square soon to be Grand Parrents Again!

April 03, 2020 - Toronto - Canada Square Building - Yonge and Eglinton

Marion Nash Reports:

More great news from around the continent about our peregrine alumni from Canada.
Louise, hatched in 2016 at the Canada Square nest site to Haven and Malik, remains the resident female at the Rockford site in Illinois! I have to say, her beau is pretty handsome!!! A male name Lil Kool from Wisconsin. For those of you who keep track of these things, which we do here at CPF, Louise is the grand daughter of our most famous pair of peregrines in all of Ontario; Erin and Windwhistler. This pair reigned at 18 King St E for well over a decade and their young have been establishing sites and repopulating our skies in Ontario and far beyond. So proud of our girl. Go Louise!!!!

Dot CA from Bloor and Islington has 4 eggs

April 03, 2020 - Etobicoke - Sun Life Centre

Marion Nash Reports:

We want to celebrate the clutch of 4 eggs in Rochester, New York for Beauty and Dot.ca! For those of you who don’t know him, Dot.ca was hatched in 2010 at the Etobicoke nest site at Bloor and Islington. Now I should tell you that Dot.ca is a male who is rather fond of his eggs and chicks and will often try to shoo Beauty off of the eggs for “his turn”. He is such an attentive male that in his first year as a parent he attempted to feed his eggs the day before hatching (he could hear the chick) and has been seen to do that in other subsequent nesting seasons. He is so incredibly happy to incubate its become somewhat of a competition between the two and a dynamic that sometimes produces hilarious results. If I can find the picture I’m thinking of I’ll post it for all. Congratulations Beauty and Dot.ca on your 4 gorgeous eggs!! Way to go Rochester!

Etobicoke private condo nest still active

April 02, 2020 - Greater Toronto - Private Residential 1

Marion Nash Reports:

On June 12, 2006, the ‘Four Sisters’ towers at the Lakeview Generating Station in Mississauga were imploded!
Shortly thereafter, the family of Peregrine Falcons which had nested there discovered a similar residential building in Etobicoke
The Peregrine nests have been showing up annually during March of each year and this year is no different. It has been confirmed that there are four eggs on the nest site (which is called a Eyrie). The first egg was laid on March 24, the second, March 27 and two more on March 30 – April 1. As our Mom and Dad are banded, our female is called Aria (she came to us last year from Rochester) – along with the male, Indie, who arrived from Indiana. They both share the incubation – taking turns sitting on the clutch. Incubation takes 29 – 32 days per egg. The chicks hatch over a period of a couple of days so we should see this phenomenon late April into early May.
The above picture was taken April 2, 2020 with Mom and Dad in the process of changing shifts - it has been confirmed there are 4 eggs in the clutch.
More information will be provided as we continue to monitor.

Ambassador Bridge Nest update

- All Reports

Marilyn Weller Reports:

Site Coordinator Paul, reports that he was able to see 2 eggs and possibly a third egg when at the site this evening. Although construction at the bridge has caused some disruption to the former nest site, Windsor’s pair have set up this year on the north face of the bridge (on the Detroit River side of the bridge).

We are optimistic for another successful season!

Likely nest activity

April 01, 2020 - Toronto - Mount Sinai Hospital

Harry Crawford Reports:

At just before 11am as I approached from the north, a peregrine flew into
the nest ledge.  It left a few minutes later and then came back after 10
minutes with food and left it in an adjacent ledge and took off again.  It
looks like this site is active again this year.

Interestingly, I spotted Hunter on the west side of the CIBC building at
Yonge & Bloor around 4 pm yesterday.  Doing well for an old bird.
