CANADA SQUARE - Bruce was down in the morning and had some birds on site but they were backlit and silhouetted and so was unable to get tape color. He was pretty sure he had three. He came back down this afternoon and at one point saw all six members of this family. I have been able to confirm that Screaming Legals with green tape is currently sitting on the Canadian tire building on the very top spire of the highest antenna. I have also been able to confirm that Raptorette is back and is sitting at nest ledge level on the north side of Canada Square. I will be leaving shortly to head up to the CPF raptor centre as in this heat I change their waters daily and sometimes even twice a day depending on how hot it is. With that job pending I want to do that in the light and so I’m hoping, at the very least, to see Spicy P with white tape before I go. That would make my day.

I just wrote a decently long post on this site and my internet bugged out and I lost it. I’m not amused so here is the Coles notes. Raptorette flew several times and made it up to Rio Can roof but when she took her next flight she was chased by her brothers in play and she freaked out. She flew due west out of sight and hasn’t returned yet. We are not concerned that she is grounded but it may take her a day to get back. Haven brought in a pigeon for the boys at dusk and thought it was a perfect line up for Spicy P to take a food transfer. Well, in reality he grabbed it off of her. He came down in the area of the Theater roof at 2190 Yonge between the Can Sq. and Can Tire towers out of my view. I was really worried at dark as I hadn’t seen him come up from that and it was a really heavy package for him. I cleared the ground around the whole Canada Square block before I lost all my light and I couldn’t see him down. I left not knowing much and I don’t like that at all so I’m going to bed. Bruce will be in tomorrow morning and I will post what he finds right away. Let’s all wish these kids well as they are driving us nuts!!!

MOUNT SINAI

July 03, 2019 - Toronto - Mount Sinai Hospital

Marion Nash Reports:

Yesterday I got a call that there was a report of a peregrine on a balcony on University Avenue in need of a rescue with a possible injury. After coordinating with Bruce I headed down to see what I could find at the location. The site was just a few buildings away on the east side of University and after heading up to the suite, absolutely there was a juvenile falcon on the balcony. As I approached the windows, the tinting hiding my approach, I was able to get a good look at the bird without alerting it and it did shows signs of trouble with its left wing. I decided a rescue was in order. This is an inaccessible balcony that presented a challenge for a rescue. The security guard unlocked the door for me to get out to the bird. That was the easy part. I then had a one foot opening between a cubicle wall and an almost 4 foot high filing cabinet that would get me into the one and a half foot wide space between the back of the cubicle and the door to the balcony. Working on a farm I scramble up lots of things and into lots of weird places and so with the blessing of the tenants, up onto the filing cabinet I hopped and then lowered myself down into the gap. I didn’t want to spook the bird into the air and into trouble as it really needed to get looked at by a vet to be sure of its wing condition. I took a breath and put my hastily made plan into action. I walked out the door just plain as day and the bird was on edge. I quickly strode between him and escape to the air and he did exactly what I’d hoped. He flew over towards the corner and the rest is history. Into the carrier he went. It took a few minutes to extract myself from the gap and then off to the CPF Raptor Centre for a night of rest before a visit to TWC for a health check. I took him in this morning and I am awaiting results that I will share once I get them in. It is a little male and he is one of the Mount Sinai birds. Our goal is to assess him quickly, make a well organized plan for care and get him back to his family as quickly as possible. The longer he is gone the further behind he gets in his training. One excellent thing of note is that he is an absolute tiger. His attitude is not typical of the boys where once caught they tend to surrender. Not this one!! He bit out and lashed out all the live long day. He attacked the towel, the carrier and me and that is exactly how he needs to be in the peregrine world. More to come tomorrow, let’s all wish him well.

We got a call from the great management at Amexon - their HVAC system was down and their workmen had to fix it, yep, on the roof! And they wanted our help to keep workers and birds safe.. Good people. The guys were really great, respectful of the birds.
Chester came flying over to check us out, was pretty chill actually–thankfully where they had to work was not right by the nest ledge. Then up popped Jenna! She sat there checking us out…and stayed there for the 3 plus hours they were there working!! The guys were very impressed lol. I left to pick up my dog and came back as they were finishing up. They said Jenna had just “disappeared” moments ago–I said she probably was down feeding her kids! I popped my head over and saw her feeding two beautiful bobbleheads ❤ ❤ ! She echupped for Dad(who was nowhere to be found-I had already checked) but I was out of there in less than a minute…she had had enough disruption, I am sure. But way to go everyone involved…from the guys to mom and dad, who stayed calm. And so glad to see two healthy babies ❤ ❤

July 03, 2019 - Toronto - Sheraton Centre

Marion Nash Reports:

Downtown Toronto Activity.
Spot checks are in order this evening.
King St. ( not an active nest site )
unidentified adult female sitting on the cooling tower railing of nearby building. She sat there for a long time.
Sheraton Centre:
No adult in view. BonVoy and Quinn appear to be enjoying the west tower of Nathan Phillips Square. Pigeons nest in that area, curiosity must be bringing the juvies to take a look.
Mt. Sinai:
No adults in view. Two juvies on the south side of the west wing of the hospital. The others out of view.

McKeever finally found her wings

July 01, 2019 - Windsor - Ambassador Bridge

Marion Nash Reports:

I am glad I have a good cardiologist because as of today McKeever is starting to show greater confidence in her flying skills. Frank almost had a coronary this morning when she flew up and over the trucks on the bridge.

I am attaching a digiscoped picture of her which I believe epitomizes the confident Peregrine Falcon.
