Little Mason stays on the upper roof retaining wall for the evening. Mom tucks him in!

Mark Nash Reports:
May 12th - 2014 - PM watch to close:
A quickly update on little Mason’s progress for the evenings close of the fledge watch. For the most part, it was an uneventful evening on the watch, with the little fledgling named Mason spent all evening up until dark on the top portion of the roof retaining wall at MEC #1 - (the nest building).
He did although do numerous circuits as he walked around on the top of the retaining wall roof in an effort to keep a close eye on his mom as she flew around overhead.
After all of the food that he was fed during the day, you could hardly imagine that he wold even be interested in mor food, but he was, and his mom fed him yet again just prior to darkness.
This time, she brought in food to the upper ledge of the retaining wall, then encouraged Mason to drop down to the actual roof top and it is there that she fed him, and then se departed leaving him on the actual roof, behind the retaining wall. And that was the last I saw of him when darkness fell.
This same type of event has very consistent with that of the routines of many of the other adult females at other nest sites that we have been monitoring over the years during the fledge watches when the adult females are dealing with recent fledglings. It would appear that the mom’s are putting the offspring to bed, (coaxing them with a last meal of the day, at the end of the day just before its gets dark, encouraging them either back to the nest boxes or nest ledges, and /or to the lower portions of the roof tops out of sight for night.
By 9pm it was quite dark with the overcast and I shut the fledge watch down for the evening and departed for home.
Back again tomorrow, Stay tuned……….
