Getting Caught Up - Ashley Out of View Sat June 15
June 15, 2013 - Mississauga - Executive Centre
Tracy Simpson Reports:
Well, she’s flown. When I arrived at just after 6am, Ashley had already taken her first flight off of the rooftop to parts unknown, at least to me anyways. Cass was on MEC 2 calling and Sante was not in view at the time. I started a walkabout to check and make sure that her flight didn’t ground her at any of the buildings and I circled each one in turn. No Ashley. So I set up at MEC 3 and waited to see if the parents would reveal anything. No clues were given. Food came into the ledge at 6:30am and I waited for a pop up on the retaining wall of the roof. None. Food came in again at 7:15am and I waited for a pop up. Nothing. Something was up as there isn’t a juvenile Peregrine falcon in the known universe that wouldn’t investigate the possibility of food and scream to the world about it, but where did she get to. I again walked the four buildings of the MEC complex but I was unable to find her and so I set up at the watch post at MEC 3 and waited for the calvary to arrive. At 9am, Shannon and Katherine met up with me and we organized a walkabout to make sure that Ashley was not in danger anywhere. We searched from Hurontario to Rathburn to Burnhamthorpe and along Robert Speck Parkway but no clue as to Ashley’s whereabouts could be uncovered. It almost appeared as though the parents had lost her as well. They circled the building low focussing on her last known location and then expanded to the neighbourhood with Mama Cass calling her to come home for lunch. This continued all day as Catherine continued to get fed on the ledge. When Margaret arrived, she and Katherine continued the search around MEC 1 which garnered the attention of the adults. Both were sitting on the north side of the nest building and looking down at the last place they saw Ashley. It leads me to believe that they know as much about where she is as we do. The adults checked all of the window wells on the east and north side of the nest building and were in and out of the box frequently checking on Catherine and looking for Ashley. Catherine was content to stay at home and has not yet jumped the gap. By the end of the day, after extensive searches were made, Ashley’s location remained a mystery to all of us and Catherine remained on the nest ledge. We were joined by Winston for the evening and we checked the rooftop to be sure and I could not see her anywhere. We will be back in the early morning to continue our vigilant watch on Catherine and watch for Ashley’s return. My heartfelt thanks go out to the watchers and searchers Katherine, Shannon, Margaret and Winston as I could not do one thing without compromising the other. Your help has been outstanding and I cannot thank you enough.
