Feeding Time at Canada Square

May 27, 2013 - Toronto - Canada Square Building - Yonge and Eglinton

CPF Volunteer Reports:
I was out at 4:50pm and there was no-one to see !  Right on time at 5:00 pm Stormin flew south on Yonge Street and across the intersection onto the nest ledge, north end. He had a large food parcel which he dumped on the ledge. In no time flat Haven had hopped over to him, taken possesion of the food and in a *loud voice* chupped her thanks to him.  Stormin was a tad perplexed and sort of shuffled his feet, ducked his head and flew to the Rio-Can south face across the road.
Haven stood in place for about a minute before tightly gripping the food in one foot, flying off the ledge, doing a fast turn and heading back to the ledge closer to where her chicks were. Again she paused before half flapping and dragging the food to her eyases, She disappeared from view and that was it for 20 minutes when she flew to Rio-Can and sat below Stormin.  He was sleeping and remained in that *Stormin slouch*.After roughly fifteen minutes Haven did a *recce flight* over the nest to check on the young ones and flew back to RC. She was only there for a minute before flying to the nest and disappearing from sight. I stayed for another half hour but there was no more movement from anyone. So I left.

A Little Bit of Flapping Going On

May 27, 2013 - Burlington - Lift Bridge

Sue McCreadie Reports:

Bill and I arrived at the Lift Bridge just in time to catch Cirrus delivering a beautiful white pigeon to the nest box.  The kids gathered around to be fed.  With the scope you could see 2 of them fighting over a piece of lunch, one on one end and one on the other end.  A tug of war ensued.  There is some wing flapping going on, but not as much as I would expect at this time.

As per my previous post, we are still awaiting approval from PWGSC to post the photos of the little ones on banding day.

May 27, 2013 - Windsor - Ambassador Bridge

Tracy Simpson Reports:

This just in!!!!!!!!!!

Windsor was identified by Christine Becher of the MDNR and volunteer, Barb Baldinger on a skyscraper in Detroit, alive and well.

A huge thank you to Barb and Christine for re-sighting and identifying little Windsor!! Windsor was one of three chicks hatched in 2011 at the Ambassador Bridge to Freddie and Voltaire. It is always exciting to hear of Ontario offspring doing well and we so appreciate the sighting report. Thanks Christine and Barb!!

Etobicoke Sun Life Banding Date is Set!!

May 27, 2013 - Etobicoke - Sun Life Centre

Tracy Simpson Reports:

The family of four that you can now visit with via the new web cameras at Etobicoke Sun Life will be banded at our 17th annual peregrine falcon banding ceremony at 3250 Bloor Street West this Wednesday May 29th.  The ceremony is set to begin at 3:00pm in the lobby of the east tower so come on out and meet the new family.  We must also send out a huge thank you to all of the staff at Damar Security Systems and Sony for the incredible images we are now able to see of life on the ledge in Etobicoke.  As a result of their camera support we were able to confirm 4 healthy chicks this morning for Jack and O’Connor and the live images of O’C sleeping on the camera housing are just awesome!!  The chicks are quite mobile now and have slumped on down the ledge to be with Mommy bird (who can blame them!) but then waddle back to the tray for feedings.  Nice to see them so mobile!!  Congratulations Etobicoke Sun Life and we’ll see you all on Wednesday!!

For those tuning into the web cam today, the kids are all at the opposite end of the ledge hiding under the web cam so no worries.  Mom is on top of the web cam perching there.

Dad is at his other site and they’ve just had their first hatch there, so congrats to Jack and TR Mom!
