Things are Still Pretty Quiet

May 29, 2012 - Burlington - Lift Bridge

Sue McCreadie Reports:

Bill and I spent some time at the Lift Bridge this afternoon.  The “Triplets” are pretty quiet.  We are starting to see a little wing flapping but for the most part, the boys are out of the sun in the back of the box.  Cirrus was hunting from the top of the Hamilton Hydro Tower but was not having much success.  Mackenzie, was sitting on the old nest ledge watching Cirrus.  He finally took matters into his own hands and went under the Skyway.  He walked the walkway between beams 2 and 3, disappeared down behind and the next thing we know he was out with prey.  It took him all of about 2 minutes and a lot less work than what Cirrus was doing.  It appeared to be a young pigeon, who was just not quite ready to fly.  He took it to the Hamilton Hydro Tower to prepare, eating some himself while he was at it, and then took it to the nest box and just dropped it off.  I guess they are trying to see if the boys are anywhere close to being able to feed themselves.  When we left, neither of the adults had returned to the box to feed them.

Still lots of white feathers visible, but the dark ones are starting to appear.  Of course it is really difficult to tell what stage they are at from the ground.

We are off to see what today brings!!!
