July 02, 2011 - Burlington - Lift Bridge

CPF Postmaster Reports:

July 2nd -2011
Hello , We are Carol and Brent ,, we live on Beach Blvd about 1000 meters from the Lift Bridge . Last evening we heard and sighted all 3 Falcons as they landed very high up on the Tower at Pandora Ave .. I was able to get a couple pictures ,, but our camera is small digital and not great for telephoto action. The time on our camera indicates about 7pm..They were squawking quite a bit as they flew above us on our deck , about 3-4 times , before settling on the tower. Hope this helps explain their absence ,, for a while.. B.B.

!!! It’s amazing how a week can change things at one location!

July 02, 2011 - Scarborough - Yellow Pages

CPF Postmaster Reports:

July 2 - 2011
It’s amazing how a week can change things at one location.
With a free evening, I headed down to the Yellow Pages nest sight with camera in tow and was this aviation enthusiast treated to some spectacular flying by all the young ones and their parents.
At first it was what appeared to be dad and the red banded chick practicing food exchanges.
Then along came another chick from the nest building and, much to my surprise, the two chicks started impersonating mom and dad doing mock food exchanges with each other while flying through the air!
Both young ones eventually landed on the Investor’s Group building where, while only sitting for a minute, one of the juvie’s didn’t really like my presence and just like mom and dad started screeching at me before taking off towards me while the other bird, still sitting on the ledge, watched with amusement.
It was at this time that the young peregrine landed on the top of the high arch on the eastern side of the Investor’s Group building and, lo and behold, mom was sitting on the little bar jutting out to the north. Dad was on the south west corner of the Investor’s Group building after stooping at a red tailed hawk which was across the street at the Orthodox church. The third juvenile then appeared out of nowhere and landed on the north east corner of the building due south of the Investor’s Group building.
With sunlight quickly diminishing at about 8:15pm, the female then abandoned her perch with the juvenile who was sitting at the top of the arch flying directly behind her towards the Yellow Pages building. They reached the building and then proceeded to circle the building 4 times before both came to a landing on the antennae on the eastern side of the building.
During this time, the male and the other 2 juveniles remained perched on the Investor’s Group building and the building adjacent to it.
At approximately 8:30pm there was a boisterous sound from the Yellow Pages building where mom returned to the building with a fresh kill. She circled the building and landed on an open antenna with the juvenile then landing on the same antenna to consume the kill. Feathers could be seen flying everywhere from the antenna.
When I left the area at about 8:45pm, the adult female and one of the juveniles were on the Yellow Pages building and the adult male and 2 other juveniles were on the 2 buildings to the west.
It was a perfect evening, and all flights seen were not only strong but lengthy, showing that the skills of their parents have definitely been passed on to these young.

!!! Wonderful Flight Displays

July 03, 2011 - Windsor - Ambassador Bridge

Dennis Patrick Reports:

After the huge storm last night, Spitfire and Lady Gaga are doing great. They really enjoy flying around together while Freddie and Voltaire sit and watch them. It’s amazing how fast they are growing, their landings are done with such ease now compared to three days ago. Tonight all of four of them are present and accounted for.

!!! Sunshine, Kate, Cinnamon in View

July 01, 2011 - Toronto - Sheraton Centre

Linda Woods Reports:
This morning by 11:00 I had all five in view. Two juveniles on the lower east side of 130 Adelaide. One Juvenile on 150 York Street, one adult on the upper 120 Adelaide. Kate was on 150 York, Cinnamon and Sunshine were on the lower east side of 130 Adelaide. Swing stage for 130 Adelaide was lowered just below the upper roof line. Window washers out on the Hilton Hotel

Late this afternoon, again at 6:10 pm Rhea Mae on the upper railing of 120 Adelaide, Kate on 150 York St., Cinnamon on the lower east side of 130 Adelaide. 6:15pm Sunshine made an appearance on the east side of 120 Adelaide and Cinnamon took off and over to the Phoenix building. Kate had moved off the corner of 150 York Street and has moved to the inner south area of the same building sitting next the cooling tower railing of 150 York St.

I left after Cinnamon made his flight over to the Phoenix. Cinnamon is getting around, but haven’t seen him do any long flights as yet. He his taking his time getting around. Kate is taking her time, being a little cautious after her sidewalk adventure.

Afternoon observation report.

June 30, 2011 - Ottawa - Delta Ottawa City Centre

CPF Postmaster Reports:

Good afternoon,
Thursday, June 30, 2011 ~ 12:20 p.m. — 1:00 p.m.
Connor is perched near the 4th SE pillar. He is keeping watch and looking inside the nest area. When I drop by again at 1:00 p.m. for another look he’s right where I left him. The only flying I’ve seen this afternoon are the crazy antics of pigeons and the smooth soaring of the seagulls high above.
Happy Canada Day everyone!!!!
Take care and keep smiling!

!!! There has got to be hatch by now!

June 30, 2011 - Ottawa - Delta Ottawa City Centre

CPF Postmaster Reports:

Thursday, June 30, 2011 ~ 7:20 a.m — 7:40 a.m.

As I arrived at the Delta Ottawa City Centre on this beautiful morning in Ottawa I glanced up to see an adult perched on the NW corner of the hotel. It was enjoying its breakfast on the rooftop. It kept going inside the rooftop area but since I’m at street level I could not see if food was being given to its young. After about 10 minutes it flew off with its meal to the SE corner of the hotel. Once it was finished eating the falcon moved to the side of the SE corner where it remained until I left at 7:40 a.m.
Take care and keep smiling!

PM observation report.

June 29, 2011 - Ottawa - Delta Ottawa City Centre

CPF Postmaster Reports:

Wednesday, June 29, 2011 — 12:15 p.m. — I’m heading towards the Delta Ottawa City Centre and spot an adult perched near the 5th SE pillar. The adult is keeping a watchful eye towards the south of the city and the inside of the rooftop. I head back at about 1:00 p.m. and despite a thorough scanning of favourite perches; I cannot locate any adult in the vicinity. I did spot those infamous turkey vultures taking advantage of the strong wind currents above Laurier Avenue. I also noticed a raven perched on the NE corner of the 275 Slater Street building. This building rooftop has been adopted by ravens and of course pigeons.
Take care and keep smiling!

You’ve got to be asking,, will there be a hatch this year?

June 29, 2011 - Ottawa - Delta Ottawa City Centre

CPF Postmaster Reports:

Good morning,
Wednesday, June 29, 2011 — 7:05 a.m. — 7:30 a.m. It’s a brisk and overcast morning in Ottawa. I hear some vocalizing near the nest site (NW corner) of the Delta Ottawa City Centre but I cannot locate a falcon. Connor arrives from above the Place de Ville Towers and lands on the NW ledge (side of the hotel). He doesn’t stay tucked in there long and I just have time to cross the street as he takes off around the hotel to land on the SE corner. He keeps scouting towards the NE. Pigeons frolic everywhere oblivious to the bird of prey standing guard on his urban cliff. He stays there for a good 15 minutes and then takes off in the same direction where he came from. I’ll check back again during the lunch hour to see if I can spot both falcons.
Take care and keep smiling!
