!!! Confusing at its best, but still good news never the less! Now 3 eggs in the nest tray!!

June 01, 2010 - Etobicoke - William Osler

CPF Postmaster Reports:

We have just received updated news from William Osler Health Care Centre that their resident female (who ever she is these days) is currently incubating three eggs!! This is going to very interesting indeed!
After all of the fighting and squabbling going on out at this nest site over the nest ledge itself, we are at a loss now as to who the resident female now is. Unbelievably, the same resident male of 5 years,, “Hurricane” - (produced at the Toronto Sheraton hotel) is still there and has been dealing with all of the squabbling females. I guess your gotta think that all of these girls fighting for his attention must bolster his ego just a bit!
Stay tuned………..

WE’RE GETTING SOOOOOOOO BIG

June 01, 2010 - Burlington - Lift Bridge

Sue McCreadie Reports:

Bill and I and Barry and Linda have spent the last few days at the Bridge.  The little ones are definitely getting BIGGER and stronger.  Below are a couple of photos of Mom at a feeding from yesterday.  Today we witnessed wing flapping going on inside the box with a short hop, jump and fly from the front to the back of the box.  Dad made a delivery of what appears to be a Blue Jay.  He just made a short stop at the box, dropped the prey and immediately took off again.  During this delivery, Mom was having a little snooze tucked into the shade on the Hamilton Hydro Tower.

!!! One healthy looking eyases!

June 01, 2010 - Etobicoke - Sun Life Centre

Kathy Reports:

Was lucky enough to see one of the chicks in full view today as it stood in front of the nest box on the ledge giving me a good view of her!  I say ‘her’ because it was a big, white, fluffy healthy looking eyases !  Either that or he’s a big boy - perception from the ground can be distorting!

Mom was around every time I checked, at the high point of the day when the sun is beating down on the ledge she was there with her wings up shielding them from the sun again.

!!! Another Canadian Pefa settles down in the USA and now producing his own family.

May 31, 2010 - International, National and Local News

CPF Postmaster Reports:

We have received some great news from our good friends down in New York State from the N.Y.D.E.C. After banding a single hatchling that has was produced at the Grand Island Bridge nest- (on the south bridge), the resident male has been identified by his solid Black coloured marker band as being a Canadian produced bird from Hamilton Ontario.
We have been able to confirm after checking band records that the resident males identity is that of a male peregrine named Duncan. Duncan was produced at the Hamilton Sheraton Hotel nest site in 2008 and he was banded at 23 days old, weighing in at 666 grams (on an empty crop weight) on June 2nd / 2008.
Duncan has apparently hooked up with an unbanded female, so her identity and history is unknown.
We have asked Connie if they had any photos that they could send to us of Duncan and his new family.
Stay tuned……

Behind the scenes at the Sheraton Banding

June 01, 2010 - Toronto - Sheraton Centre

Matt MacGillivray Reports:

This is what happens on the ledge during the banding at the Toronto Sheraton Centre.  While it sounds like fun, being attacked by an adult peregrine on the 43rd floor ledge can be dangerous!

Great video Linda!
