June 17, 2009 - Etobicoke - Sun Life Centre
Kathy Reports:
It’s pouring rain today and the family is hunkered down on the various ledges around the building doing what they do best in this kind of weather..napping
Mackenzie has adapted very well to being back home and is staying out of trouble! Yesterday morning I observed all three juvies gliding with their parents and flying between the condo towers.
This morning before the rain started, I saw all 3 kids playing tag with each other in the air - even Mackenzie had joined in! He was smart though, when big sister Elena came at him, he retreated to a ledge! No doubt his adventures last week have instilled a cautious streak in him, which is not a bad thing for a peregrine falcon!

Thank you Mark for these shot. Nice one with all four family members present.
Hats off to two of our spotters for a heads up play catching a couple of quick feedings of our little Princess on the nest.
Great job Sharon and Ken.
What a team!!!!
These little beggars have won our hearts so much that I think if we could fly for them we would.
I’ll be posting again later. Heading down now to the nest site.

CPF Postmaster Reports:
After a quiet morning, Tailer finally let go and flew. He didn’t go far, but he did stay up high. He is now on the top of Constitution Square Tower 1. His parents are nearby and brought him something to snack on. Nihei stayed home and is rather quiet, adding to the feeling we have a female. We have yet to see her whole self on the ledge. Tailer spent some of his time exploring the edges of his new world, running along each part of the ledge, stopping to check on the whereabouts of a parent, then running again, and then back again.
Chris and I went up to the Penthouse of the Crowne Plaza Hotel and had a good look at him from a banquet room. We took a few photos and left, to continue watching from the sidewalk, just in case he decided to fly again.

June 17, 2009 - Burlington - Lift Bridge
Mark Nash Reports:
On site very early this morning and set up house expecting a busy morning before the rain. Both parents were very active trying to coax the three hatchlings from the nest box. At 8am, and without any warning, the first juvenile “Truss” took her first flight. In seconds, both parents appeared out of thin air and escorted Truss positioned on each side of her almost touching wings as she struggled in her flight with the head wind trying to reach the roof top of the south tower. At one point it seemed that both of the parents inside wings touched Truss’s wings on either side as they escorted her in flight. Holding her altitude, Truss tried to make the upper roof ledge of the south tower, but it was not to be, as she came short by about a foot and slid down the upper south tower face (bay side) and ended up doing a face plant on the top of the cable arm. Her two sisters looked on in amazement. Truss quickly recovered to her feet with a very bewildered look and clung on to the piece of metal extending out from the top of the cable arm. For the next two hours, she hold on tightly in the strong wind guests that followed.
Both parents circled more than a dozen times, briefly landing on the same cable arm where Truss had landed. At approx. 8:30 am, mom headed off to the Skyway bridge out of sight only to return moments later with a fresh kill. She landed on one of the of cable collectors (nicked named the pic-nic tables) and prepared the food. She then flew to the nest box and kited in front of the two remaining hatchlings trying to coax them out of the nest box. The adult female tried on several occasions with various “fly-bys” but was unable to convince her other two daughters to take their first flights. Mom then flew over the south tower and teased Truss to get back into the air, but once again had no luck convincing Truss to try a second flight.
By 9:45 am , both parents were alarm calling and stooping and diving at something down low in the north tower base at the same level where the lift bridge meets the tower. For the next two hours, we watched both parents, (particularly mom) stoop, hover, and complete many fly-bys through this lower section of the tower. After spending more than two hours of scanning the spans of the tower, none of us have been able to see anything. Stay tuned, more to come…….

June 16, 2009 - Toronto - Sheraton Centre
Linda Woods Reports:
This morning, all four juvies were in view. Osler is testing his wings and venturing higher, fast and further . Last night’s flight on the north side of Bank of Montreal was wonderful to see, as the adults joined in to encourage him. Liberty remained on the ledge until this 09:15 morning. Sandy Links, moved from the east side of York St. to the north facing of Starbucks, and Stormin was on Lombard Place.
Unfortunately, once all juvies are out flying, sometimes it doesn’t take much to loose track of them.
As of this evening, only Liberty and one other juvnile ( can’t confim I.D.) are accounted. Hopefully, they’ll all reappear in the morning.

June 16, 2009 - Toronto - King Street
Linda Woods Reports:
Today, Zoe spent the morning and most of the afternoon watching King St. I joined Zoe at King St. site, mid afternoon.
Zoe and I report that all four remain on the nest.
Lots of periodic flapping, but I don’t recall a lot of screaming.
No food went to the ledge this afternoon or evening.
And I did see all four for a split moment this evening. Like watching dolphins in the water, a fourth peregrine breached my view and then disappeared to the back of the ledge.
The adults were seen coming in from the west, and circling over the nest building.
The adults can be seen sitting on the east facing side of # 1 King St. and also the spire of St.James.
This evening as the wind picked up and the air seemed to get chillier, the juvies disappeared behind the pillar.
All was quiet at dusk. No one in view.

Doug Garbutt Reports:
It’s getting harder to keep track of the resident falcons here. I’m not sure if there 2 or 3 falcons present. Since all 4 of this years eggs were destroyed (assuming by the falcons), I thought that the original pair of Millie & Buffalo Bill were still the residents. However, today one of the falcons currently controlling the box was positively I.D’d and it is neither Millie(11/W solid black) or Buffalo Bill(68/R black over green). Instead it is a new falcon (M/82 black over green). There is lots of action here, we’re just having trouble following it. If I learn more I’ll report back. Perhaps Mark can I.D. this new bird.

Harry Crawford Reports:
Our fourth and last chick is off the nest. Jan spotted Liberty’s
fledge at 9:15am. I took up the sighting as she flew west over
University Avenue. She was quite high and in control, made a wide
clockwise turn above 200 University Avenue and headed east, out of
our view. Later, I spotted a juvenile on the north-east corner of
the 15-floor vacant office building directly south of the Sheraton
Centre. Linda confirmed that it was indeed Liberty. The excitement
continues.

It is with great relief that I post that our little male is “flying like a Champ” to use Smurf one of our spotters words. Up to the top of the Tower all around. So this is just a quick post to let everyone know he’s doin fine!!!!!!!!!!!! Come down and watch our flyer and help with the watch on his sister who hasn’t gotten up the nerve to venture out yet.

Sarah Washington Reports:
It was not a long flight, however it was still a flight. One of the females left the ledge around 11am yesterday. Her flight was over to a much lower roof as opposed to where she was. We hope that this does not pose a problem for the next flight as the next lower area is the streets. She is one hungry girl, as she has not been fed since yesterday morning.
Mom and Dad have been keeping a close eye on her while her siblings look on as well.
3 to go….
