!!! Banding Day - June 3rd - 2008

June 03, 2008 - Toronto - King Street

Mark Nash Reports:

Today was an exciting day at the 18 King Street nest site for sure. With everything set and ready to go, the banding of the three peregrine hatchlings moved forward a little behind schedule but the day was a huge success due to the efforts of all , especially the crew at Solar Window washing who provided the lift to the nest ledge. With 3 hatchlings successfully removed from the nest ledge , MNR representatives Mark Heaton headed up the banding team and ventured up onto the nest ledge to collect the chicks for banding purposes.

A huge thank you to the management and staff at Avison Young and Slate Properties for providing a great banding space to conduct the banding. The banding day was a huge success despite the delays. Working with wildlife is always a challenge and safety is the first priority, so we did appreciate all those that were patient during the process.

It was a great turn out of attendees along with the many guests and 18 King Street tenants that were on hand to witness and be part of the banding process.

Here are the vital statistics of 18 King Streets newest family members for the 3 young peregrine hatchlings:

Chick #1: Male (named Dougal), weighing in at 673 grams, 28 days old, with a Black marker band #16 over V, with red marker tape,,
Chick #2: Female (named Ely), weighing in at 891 grams, 27 days old, with a Black colour marker band #85 over X, with Yellow marker tape,,
Chick #3: Female (named Gwenny), weighing in at 914 grams, 28 days old, Black colour band #84 over X, with green marker tape

The chicks were given colour coded tape for easy identification by the CPF volunteers to assist with the identification during the fledgling watch.

The CPF would like to thank Avison Young and Slate Properties, Solar Window washing, the MNR and all of the CPF staff and volunteers for another great banding day
